At least here in chess the cheater does not have time to eat the pizza. There is one God who knows why cheaters often get caught but sometimes get away with it. The omnipotent one God of Israel, Creator of all planets galaxies and life forms and mass and energy and everything else that is good in the world, has his own reasons that mankind does not understand. He allowed the Astros to cheat for a while without them getting hit by lightning so baseball is more important than chess.........

Playing such engines reminds me of me trying to play IM's (international masters) when I got paired way up in a big tournament. It was like wrestling with a very big python. You just got squeezed hard move after move after move until something broke. Every single time. This was when I was a class B or A player 35ish years ago. At least against experts and the occasional normal "master" I could get a draw a decent amount of the time with my endgame (which was the only part of the game I ever got good at, to a meaningful degree).

At least back in the day in OTB tourney chess, cheaters were more subtle. The primary cheating was rating cheating. So a player would drop their rating by losing to get into a lower class, and then play in a big tournament and try to cash in on a prize playing inferior players. But over time, USCF (US Chess Federation, governing US chess tournaments, generally) wised up to that and stopped letting ratings drop more than 100 points (at least in a moderate term time frame). I was accused of rating cheating once by a couple other players in my class (D), ironically when my rating was higher than it had ever been, because I was demolishing or drawing players rated 400 to 600 points higher than me in a small tourney. BUT, I pointed some things out. 1). I was as surprised as anyone. 2). I hadn't played a serious game in 6 years, and apparently had matured a lot through college and a couple years of real work. (And I'd vowed to STOP making casual, stupid, overconfident, lazy sorts of blunders). 3). I was playing for maybe a $30 class prize (this wasI 39 years ago, so I can't remember exactly) from a $12 entry fee. About a $14 hour day, to try to "cheat" my way to an $18 profit. I pointed out I made $20+ an hour, and stop insulting my intelligence. I ALSO pointed out if I REALLY wanted to cheat, I'd go to Philly for the World Open in July, and play for a class prize of $10,000 and a roughly $50 entry fee (and if I'd had ANY idea I'd improved that much, I might have wanted to try that, being a once in a life time chance to cash in on improving a lot). Now, OTB, they're watching for cell phones, etc (per a friend of mine who played in some serious tourneys). And on the net it's just ABSURD what goes on. It's sad.

I really wonder what's going on in their minds when they cheat. Are they not aware that it's often super obvious to other players that they are cheating? Or do they just not care and just want to see how long they can go without getting caught? I'll just never understand those people... Any decent player will be able to tell that they are cheating, especially a player of Levy's caliber.

The engines are so merciless. Back in the 70's and early 80's, I liked to sac pawns and pieces, drag the kind to my side of the board, and then checkmate it while it would go back to developing its pieces, like it's king was in a normal spot. LOL Then in the late 80's and early 90's, I liked to build up a big attack on the castled king, and feed the computer some material in order to get at the king and force some kind of mate with some rooks, etc. Like the time a spectator said to me (in a human vs. computer tournament, when the computers were little stand alone specialty devices), "You just dropped your queen." "No, I don't NEED a queen!", I responded, and mated the machine by force 5 or so moves later (it was easy to see, but beyond the program's horizon). Then ALL the programs got so good that they'd just smash me consistently. Oh well.

That was a beautiful demonstration how even cheating requires skill to pull it off. One doesn't know en passant and the other hangs on to the computer even if they're running out of time, not being able to win a completely and utterly won game.

Meh. I played a 97% accuracy game against Levy when I was just 1500 as well. I had a winning king-pawn ending where all I had to do was just push my pawn lol but I mouse-slipped and the game ended as a draw. Still, just goes to show that it's at least possible. In this game, his opponent was obviously a cheater, but accuracy alone isn't conclusive enough evidence.

Hi Levy I have a video idea (maybe its dumb idk lol) It could be called: Guess the Action You get a two positions from the same submitted game, the difference could be around 10-15 moves (Maybe more or less idk). You are also given the elo of the players. Your goal is to guess as much correct moves (move order included) as possible. I really hope that this idea could be realized and apologies for my bad English.

that initial game between two players rated below 1500 was just way too good for that rating level. thats the sort of game i would expect from a high level chess tournament, or even better. if they weren't cheaters, then they are really strong GMs who are smurfing. which leads me to a question, what are the odds at least one of these guys wasnt a cheater but a GM on smurf account? and this leads me to another question: if these guys are cheaters... why? don't they realize that it's obvious there is something very suspicious with the way two below 1500 players just play as well or even better than top GMs? moreover... wtf... i mean if they are cheaters, they themselves aren't getting any better at the game and as soon as they leave the help of the engine they will just not understand shit about the position and end up blundering even clearly winning positions. so ,in the end, by cheating they are just deluding themselves.

Online chess cheaters aren't doing it for any logical reason, other than they somehow find it fun. There's some kind of satisfaction or schadenfreude that they get when they're cheating against people who are actually playing, because the cheaters know they will win or draw, and the other person can't really do anything about it.

About half-way through that game when you had 3 pawns for the knight, would it have been a good strategy to swap off the rooks and go for a bishop & knight ending? Checkmating with B+N takes quite a lot of moves and you could probably have flagged him for the draw.
