2 common driver mistakes. I see these two driver mistakes repeatedly during driver lessons with clients and also from observations from people I see teeing off the first and 10th holes at every course I have ever worked at. By fixing one of these with a client during the week they picked up and extra 20 meters of length. Well over 80% of golfers I see do these two things wrong. Do you?

My name is Brian Fitzgerald - I'm an Australian full time golf coach living in Melbourne and coaching at two venues. The Bayviews GC on the Mornington Peninsula south of Melbourne and the Lang Lang GC in South Gippsland (both an hour and a quarter from Melbourne) where there are lot's of Kangaroos.
FAQ:
How long have you been a golf coach? I qualified as a full member of the Australian PGA back in 1985. Wow I don't feel that old.
Why do you make videos for KZfaq? That is a great question and one I get asked a lot. I love helping people play better golf and people tell me I have a very unique coaching style that is very simple to understand. We really should do things simpler. I just make them to help people and if people like my videos they can either come for a golf lesson in person or if that is not possible you could join my membership program and I can then view your golf swing or any part of your game and really help improve what you do.
Do you always change some ones golf swing? To be perfectly honest I try not to. If I do try to change some ones golf swing I have to have a pretty good reason for doing so and the client has to be fully engaged and committed to both regular coaching and practice in order to make that change. Most people say they will do both with good intentions but most fall away pretty quickly.
So my preference is to change things that will improve their score easily. There are so many different ways to do this.
What do you film with? - I have a few few different cameras I use. An old GoPro Hero 4, an iPhone 6 and iPhone X, A Sony ZV1 and an old Panasonic Handy cam (I'm using that less and less now). I record my sound on an old iPhone 4.
What do you edit with? - About a year ago I switched to Adobe Premiere - prior to that it was Pinnacle Studio
Do you make money off KZfaq? - Yes.It took me over 100 videos to make my first total $100 off adsense and then another 50 videos to make my next $100. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.
I really enjoy your videos, how can I support you? - Here's my ko-fi where you can buy me a coffee, beer or a burger should you wish (kind of like giving me a tip via : ko-fi.com/thegolfdoctor
Thanks for watching!

Brian thank you for a lengthy instructional on the driver. It’s my nemesis. I am reasonably confident of my irons but the driver is a struggle. I’m going to try the centering method using my nose to align my position and try no use my same swing. I’m fairly sure that I’m trying to strike the ball with the intent of getting to the green in one stroke, and in those attempts I’m simply losing control of the swing. I’m in FL this week and I’ve played at the Ocean course and at the Conservatory course. Going to their range today and replaying the Conservatory tomorrow. Wish me luck, your patient videos have helped my game so much in the past two or three years.

Thanks Bob. I am glad your golf is improving. I like the fact that you said you were going to the range to try this approach. It is sensible approach. I know a few people that have watched this video will put it straight to work in their next competitive round and that is problematic. We are in for a cold spell here in Melbourne so I will be with you in spirit in warm Florida. Keep up the great work. Brian

can't wait to try this at the range this week - surprisingly some days my driver behaves and is predictable in a high fade shot shape, other days I either hit a big slice that goes 50m+ off target, or I pull hook and is impossible to predict and setup for especially when playing tight fairways. I have always applied shoulder tilt, which makes me think my setup is completely wrong and my shoulders are open as I normally do hit a fade even with longer irons

@@fitzygolfpro Thanks Brian, I did what every golf coach tells you not to do - I tried it out on the course this morning and to be honest it worked really well and instead of hitting big fades I was hitting fairly tight draws with the exception of 1 or 2 but I think this is something I can fine tune thank you

Thanks Brian, great advice. I’ve definitely moved my tee position back to centre over the past year and progressively lowered my tee height as I regularly skied drives. Couldn’t understand how a large driver head could get under the ball, but this video explains it. I’m definitely striking the ball on the downward swing. Something to tinker with on our golf trip to Numurkah this coming week. Thanks again.

This was an excellent video Brian on two Driver Mistakes! I agree with you about "others" recommendation of moving the right shoulder down too much at address. I agree with you that this isn't necessary because a player has a slight tilt taking place when the right hand is placed on the club at address anyway. The two other things you recommended and I will be paying attention to is nose position and ball position at address! I always pay attention to my shoulders and hips at address because my set up is for an in to out swing. Great Job Brian! One of your best!

Thanks John. I am glad you enjoyed the video. I love covering the basics as they are both so important and so often bypassed. Great tuition as usual. Will try this. My natural shot is a fade or at best straight but try as I might, cannot hit a draw. Will try to apply your tips at the range first and maybe my years of not being able to hit a draw will be a distant memory. Other coaches have failed or rather I have but I believe like always we will be successful. Stay safe and thanks
@fitzygolfpro
@fitzygolfpro Жыл бұрын
Thanks David. You are either born a fader or a drawer of the ball. If you are one it is difficult to achieve the other. But if the draw is what you are trying to achieve. It is really important to get the set up matching your intention. I like the fact that you said try it on the range first. That is a great approach. I hope the weather is kind and you get out to play tomorrow. Brian.

@@fitzygolfpro Wait, I see this alot and how almost every video is trying to get ppl to have a nice draw or fade on the ball and I dont understand why, because just hit it straight.... with every single club. Am I actually the odd one out??? Huh?? This cant be the case surely... am I weird??
@fitzygolfpro
@fitzygolfpro Жыл бұрын
No you are not weird at all. I gave no bias towards clients hitting fades or draws. It’s whatever they do naturally that they should do. The most difficult shot is the straight shot. I have yet to see a golfer do that consistently. So thus would be though to achieve on a regular basis. So I am a fan of going with what someone can do naturally and then helping them to control it. I hope that makes sense to you. Brian

Hopefully these will help get your driving back on track. Practicing from those uneven tees is the best way. Get out on the quiet and hit a few tee shots from different spots and get used to it. Nothing can prepare you for it. A bit like driving a car in the rain. The more you do it the better you get at it. Thanks for watching and commenting Dermot. Brian
