Very cool photos Tim. Living in Gloucester I have been to Cheltenham many times for some street photography. I think it offers more photo opportunities than where I live. I also enjoy going to Bristol. It is the closest thing to London in this area. Regards, Manu

I started my street photography thanks to your video. The only advantage using my smartphone to take pictures is it feels discreet. The big disadvantage of it is i get only 26mm equivalent lens to begin with, but i adapt. Lately i often snap a picture almost not looking to the screen which result in the photos being tilted or not perfectly straight up, but at least i get some interesting results. Again thank you for your vlog.

To be honest sometimes it’s the most freeing feeling when you don’t care about your surroundings, time and of course your gear when you want to take a photo. Often times that’s what gives you the best moments and special pictures that you really care about.

Doing street photo quickly and resolutely is for me the hardest part. Check your photo at home, look the other way, shoot from the hip, one hand grip etc, are all useful tips. I think most people do not mind as long as you are quick and dont point the camera in their faces. After all, there are already so many vloggers on the streets, and security cameras everywhere

How do you get so sharp fotos with 35 mm? Mine are definitely lower quality. Using a Canon EOS 1000F

@@timjamiesonphotos Ah I see. My eyes are slightly bad so I use auto focus all the time. Using contacts would be fine for manual focus I guess?

'Bystander' is excellent, although you do have to wade through a fair helping of Joel Meyerowitz's pretentious waffle. 'Street Photography Now' is also great. You should also try Abebooks if you're fine with secondhand copies.

Hello Tim, and thank you again for another great POV video of especially yours which I still enjoy very much, being a kind of loyal subscriber to your channel since about one year or so. To me your POV style reels explain a lot about the conditions in the situations you took your photographs, like the importance of waiting (e. g. at the sculpture on the pier), the lighting challanges (e. g. in the arcade), which I would miss in understanding just looking at the resulting pictures, even with technical data given. So, personally speaking, please keep it up! Concerning the special look of film photography, I think iIt's the (sometimes not so) subtle softness of the frames, which I never managed to reproduce digitally in an authentic looking fashion, although some software does a decent job in getting close to the effect. One last thought: What a wonderful Frank-Capra-moment the splash has given to you! Kudos!

Much to consider, clearly presented and illustrated, Tim. Follow key points and let style emerge and change organically. Emphasis on what we want our photos to say is cogent concept. Agree, we shouldn’t “obsess” about style, per se. So, will eating lots of pizza be detrimental to my photography??😊 Cheers!

Thanks Tim, nice video again 👍👍 What about a style… i don’t know if i have one. But I like to use framing possibilities and if available reflections. Before I started street photography in January this year I wasn’t interested in architecture photography… I discovered it has a lot of possibilities combined with street photography. Unfortunately I like to photograph a lot… macro can be great! I love the silence of photographing (in) nature. Sometimes portrait is great to do too! And also sports as soccer of my son and team… And experimenting with night photography, light painting or (burning) steelwool, Milky Way, stars…. Hahaha…. To many possibilities 😂❤

Pseudo intellectuals will question the relevance of a photograph based on the photographer's ethnicity, religion, economic status, or some other random and pointless criteria. They will critique the image using these baseless criteria in order to make themselves sound intelligent and sophisticated. It's all nonsense. A photograph is a photograph. It doesn't have to have "meaning" beyond the depiction of what the camera was pointed at when the shutter was released. Mental onanism shouldn't be mistaken for intelligence.

Remortgage the house. LOL! I've been told that I have a style, I don't see it though. I just photograph what catches my eye. I recently discovered I've been doing a project; Windows. I didn't even know it. I'll have to see where that leads.

As a newbie to street photography I'm experimenting with focal length using a zoom. Currently I use 2 lenses a 17-70 and a 70-300, I walk with the 17-70 first and then rewalk with the 70-300. I really like reflections and uncluttered scenes with the 17-70. With the 70-300 I can reach into spaces such as shop doorways and catch images that I feel standing in the door way itself would cause offence. Time I started posting some and getting some feedback.

The best experience I've got as a street photographer were in new cities - there it is much easier to get the things you search for as your eye is not tired of the same scenes every day and you get a whole new unique cultural experience not native to your home country. Best countries for street photography - Thailand, Vietnam, China.

Haha, I am a serial “chimper”))) regarding the editing I would not 100% agree, although in general very true, but there are some photographers who created their own style with rather strong color-correction, many might not like it, but there are many outstanding shots of sunsets, for examples, and famous buildings that were achieved by strong editing.
