Thank you Nolan, you're one of the reasons I was able to fully commit in starting my own film business, recently in May 2020 (haha during a fricken pandemic). I even got the G85 as my first upgrade, from a Nikon D3300 😂. But I've been able to continuously grow during this short time period, and also started to get some work in wedding videos! Keep up the great work man, truly inspiring 🙌🏼🙌🏼

It's been great to watch you on your journey and seeing you land on this particular setup. You don't see many younger folks using this manual focus powerhouse. Not much you CAN'T accomplish with that combo video wise for sure but so many folks are scared away from manual focus but you really can't beat that quality, for the price, or the creative freedom you get by manual focus pulling.

I think this is the best video I have seen from you, not because the others were not good or anything but this one in particular you open up and shows another face very humane of yourself which is great. I am happy for you and your wife, that's a good responsability right there. Also great news about your wedding filmmaking career, that is pretty dope. Hopefully all the things you want can flow accordingly. Good luck and see you later man!

Nolan, congrats first on the baby...that is great news. Also, congrats on the house...that is a big step...but one you will enjoy. I too have the GH5/G85 combo and have been using those cameras for the past couple years. You mentioned batteries for them. While I carry several for each camera, it was a pain to have to change out the battery while continuously recording and not have to worry about the battery fully dying and the camera shutting down. I would like to share a power concept with you that I use and get six hours of battery life. On both the GH5 and G85, I use a device called the Raeisusp DC Drive Cable. I have one version for the GH5 and another version for the G85. This device replaces the battery and plugs into an external USB battery bank of which I use the Anker 13000 series. When I do this, I get six hours of continuous battery life. One DC Drive cable and one Anker 13000 battery is the same cost as one OEM battery for the camera. I took it one step further in I put the DC Drive cable in my handgrip of which if I use the full six hours, when that battery dies, the camera will automatically switch to the internal battery of which I can now attach a fresh Anker 13000 (I carry three of them) and then the cameral will switch from the internal battery back to the Anker 13000 in the handgrip for another 6 hours. I thought I would NEVER use this much power, but like you and weddings, I have found that I was incorrect in that assumption. I use the Anker 13000 for a reason. The camera requires a minimum of 2.4A. The two USB ports on the Anker 13000 put out 3.0A. This is okay and better as you then have some head space between 3.0 and 2.4A in case the battery bank takes a dip in power...I have yet to have it dip below the required 2.4A. Just sharing a power tip with you. Also, by the way, sorry to hear you won’t be on for a while. I value your insight, ideas, and fresh knowledge as you being new to the game, you provide a fresh perspective that some of the extremely experienced youtubers often skip. Again, congrats on ALL your news. Let us know when you are coming back. We’ll be waiting.

Hey Nolan, grats on the new place and the new baby! Stanton is a nice place, I'm over there all the time. I stumbled across your channel because I was looking for information on the GH5 and saw your test footage from Humpback Rocks. We live over in the Charlottesville area and love to hike the Blueridge. I'm also into hammocking and I was wondering if you or your wife were members of the Hammock Forums, there are a number of hangs every year in this area. Anyway best of luck with your life changes, and who knows we might cross paths sometime. Cheers!

Congrats on the come up with your wedding career as well as the family stuff. I would reccomend you get 1 additional gh5 and 1 g85. I speak from experience and here is why... VLOG. If you havent started shooting with VLOG, get the upgrade and start experimenting with grading it. It gives you so much control over the look of your images. Vlog is so much easier to deal with than cine-d and i love the final results much more. I also rarely shoot with more than 2 cameras so having an g85 as backup is cool, but not havimg the full capabilities of the gh5 on your b cam may become restrictive.
@NolanGunn

Great points. And thanks so much! I think you're probably right. Maybe for now i could get a G85 and rent a GH5 until i can either buy another one or get the S1.

What an inspiration! Congrats to you and your family. I have one question though, what is that mic you have clipped on your shoulders? It's my main problem now as I might be shooting my first wedding video 😅 and would love to have some good audio recording too. Thank you again!

Nice video. Congrats! I like the lighting and colors. Did you color grade this or what color profile? I'm considering getting the GH5 but I'm nervous about the inconsistent Panasonic colors. I have G85 now and often get bad skin tones. Do you have any advice about this topic? 📷👍🏼
@NolanGunn
@NolanGunn 4 жыл бұрын
Skin tones are better on the GH5! Still not Fuji or Canon science, but you can use HSLs in lumetri to get skin looking good. For this video it was just a custom grade with a bit of blue added to the greens while desaturating them a bit.

@@NolanGunn Thanks for this info! One more question, would you consider Canon 90D vs GH5? Those are the two cameras I'm considering. I do mostly KZfaq videos but some client work as well.
@NolanGunn
@NolanGunn 4 жыл бұрын
@@JoshPostVlogs if you're doing a majority in video, then the GH5 all the way. It's a pro camera in so many ways. If you do closer to 70% photo work, then the 90D would be the better choice imo! *Edit* looked at your videos, and if you need autofocus, then the 90D would be a great choice. GH5 is *not* good with autofocus.

Sorry forgot to ask before 18-35mm canon or Nikon is there such a big price difference because of the name or is canon better?
@NolanGunn
@NolanGunn 4 жыл бұрын
Sigma you mean? I think Canon mount is more widely available and more popular, but Nikon's mount has physical aperture control in the mount, so passive (non-electronic) adapters can still change aperture which is a great reason to get one 👌🏼

Quick question because i have a wedding this Saturday... What lens do you typically use on a gibal at a wedding? I have a prime 50mm f1.8 and the Sigma 17-50mm 2.8. Not sure what lens to put on the gimbal.

@@NolanGunn I also watched eos m50 it’s more sharp. I don’t need Auto focus, I’d like to shoot in manual. But footages from canon seems to me more sharp and natural. Maybe because of more new sensor and more megapixels. Maybe I’m loosing some point.
