Everyone experiences intrusive thoughts, but for those who struggle with OCD, they can easily get lost in examination the thought and reacting to the thought in ways that are compulsive. There are two reactions to intrusive thoughts that Christians with OCD can fall into that drive them off track. Do you find yourself falling into these patterns?

These intrusive thoughts just come and go. I hate when they come because they make it hard to pray and talk to my Heavenly Father because any time I try to pray, thoughts come in and race and spiral and here I am in the middle of my prayer pounding on my head. It makes me cry :(

David Wilkerson said if we keep looking to ourselves for righteousness we will find that there is nothing but wickedness in the heart of man. That's why when the devil torments us we have to point to the blood of Christ. I think that's the gospel actually.

Amen. Paul Washer says what requires the most faith in the believer's life is looking in the mirror of God's word and believing the Lord still loves you as much as He says He does.

@@margaretrobertson632 I thank God for you my sister. I hope these passages may be comforting to you as well. Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; Philippians 3:8‭-‬9 For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. Romans 10:3‭-‬4 I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain. Galatians 2:21 For we through the Spirit eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. Galatians 5:5 But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness, just as David also describes the blessedness of the man to whom God imputes righteousness apart from works: “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, And whose sins are covered; Blessed is the man to whom the Lord shall not impute sin.” Romans 4:5‭-‬8

Oof. I relate to both pitfalls, but especially the “God voice.” I have no idea how to differentiate between an inner disturbance and God’s voice prompting me to do something.

That's very difficult I know... I have this over playing certain video games and that God might tell me to stop playing them up to the point where it's following in my dreams and I wake up in the night soaked in sweat praying for forgiveness and that I will immediately delete this one game from my console...

@@lukastheprussian4465 I started playing video games when it became a way to bond with a couple of my siblings. A part of me wants to get lost in wondering if it's alright for me to play while another part of me fights to let go of that so I can enjoy my time instead (though I still respect my own boundaries by looking away from stuff like gore.) I think by doing so I become vulnerable with Him. We're hyped about the RE4 remake tomorrow. What do you like?

@@natalielizabeth I used to play a lot of The Elder Scrolls but since it contains magic and occultism I quit it. Now I play a lot of No man's sky or Subnautica, but also Ghost of Tsushima and Red dead online. With the last two I struggle because it contains a lot of violence still I enjoy them

@Mark Dejesus is it possible that at some point feelings of disturbance and guilt are wired in a way that just allowing the wrong impulse after a normal thought can trigger those feelings. Like, that it isn't even necessary to think something specific, just having the wrong neural path being triggered?
