I am in the process of buying what I believe is a special truck that you may be interested in. Once the title work is complete she is coming home with me. She is a 1994 F350 4x4 that brand new was sent to Quigley, Inc and had everything from the frame down stripped and had Ford F550 4x4 components installed. The truck is all original and powered by a 7.3 Powerstroke and has 27,300 original miles. I am purchasing the truck for my bee business so I wont have many miles put on it. I do have plans for a few improvements. If you are interested in seeing it, I would be glad to let you see it. Just let me know.

This was my dads truck. The house mover who owned it originally. He moved houses with her. Id ride shot gun. This was my favouritr truck. But she was loud as hell, no a/c so she'd be hot, and it was a bumpy ride. Still sounds just as loud. Seeing the dash brings back memories. I used to trace the outline of that bird on the glove box. I can still remember the smell. And I sat shotgun on that bench seat many times. This is so cool to see shes living her best life ❤❤

That duck was originally featured in the movie convoy (1978). That duck was made by a fellow who would sell the ducks to hot roders back in the day. The director saw the duck and used it in the movie. Years down the road the son of the craftsman who invented the angry duck, found the original mold and remade the hood ornaments. He even made a miniature one (which I run it on my motorcycle). Unfortunately he fell into some financial issues and he stopped making them. Last thing I knew of him was that he was selling the original “running red indian” mold.

@@barath4545 He never responded, but naturally it's a big "it depends" on what you can find, and how bad the sellers need money. Trucks don't require much fab to mount an engine and trans, as these chassis used to typically come with multiple engine and transmission options. When I worked for a Pete dealer, at the time you could order a 379 with a Cat, Cummins, or Detroit. You can probably find mounts and such from a big truck junkyard and even if not, there isn't much "fitting" exactly, especially not on a stripped down truck meant for fun. It's brakes, hoses, fluids, tires etc. that are gonna nickel and dime you to death. In any car or truck build the incidentals are always far more than folks plan for.

I put hundreds of thousands of miles on 8V92s. We called them "250,000 mile hand grenades" LOL. The cracked head deal was common. They got relatively poor mpg, were obviously quick off the line, and were loud. I like the sound of the 2 stroke Detroits. I cut my teeth on a 6-71 in a ready mix truck then moved to the 8V92s at my first over the road job. That company had them "cut back" and subscribed to the whole "fuel squeezer" line from Detroit at the time. They were fairly easy to "turn up" in a rest stop though LOL. The trucks of that company were spring ride cabover Freightliners with aluminum frames (very rough riding) and single sleepers. They had 3.70 rear ends and 13 speeds with no "splitter" hooked up, so, were effectively 9 speeds. Hooking up the "splitter" was also easy to do in a rest stop though. I could climb the east side of Homestake pass in 5th over at 32 mph or so (with the rest stop modifications of course). We were generally home every weekend and we never wanted to get caught with our "splitter" hooked up. So it was kind of a pain to have to uninstall it and reinstall it. I was in my 20s then though and, to me, it was well worth the fun LOL.

@@Rx7man Well 3.73 rears with a 13 spd will run right up there for top end in 13th. The Freightliner dealer knew that was not necessarily a great idea in a fleet operation. They also knew that when the trucks were traded in to them they'd have to resell them. And around here, selling a truck with an 8V92 and a nine speed or ten speed at the time would have been difficult as there were few fleets locally that would have bought in to the whole "fuel squeezer" concept.
@lancelacour6717

I spent the first 10 years of my trucking career in Detroit-powered Freightliners in the early 1980s. Lots of 6V92s and 8V92s in the fleet. They were great on the open road, absolutely smooth as a sewing machine. And that great 2-stroke sound. Emissions regulations killed them off around the turn of the century. Too bad.

@@arthurlejawka6392 Shifting without splitter must wait longer since the rpm drop is 400. With splitter can shift faster because only 200rpm drop. When using the splitter without crossing the 1-3 or 2-4 gate, I always shift to neutral then back in where I just came from because one time going up a hill (thankfully empty) I just split it from OD to direct in 3rd gear and lazily popped the clutch and it went into no gear. Luckily I had a head of steam up and managed to get it seamlessly into high range second. I learnt my lesson - don't just pop the clutch when using the splitter esp when loaded.

The butterfly cut the engine going down the QEW and I had to make my way over to the shoulder in the rain with tiny little mirrors and fogged up windows. We made it. The garage guys bring me a change off I was hoping for a new bus. Nope same series. So as I’m getting the replacement coach setup the mechanic resets the butterfly and starts up the bus. A cloud of black smoke billows out the tail pipe just after Erin Mills on the EB side. It covers both sides all six lanes in complete darkness. Then all of a sudden I look over and you see this pure white Ford econoline RV emerge from the smoke it was hilarious. But yet somewhat scary that a major accident didn’t occur. This was back in 2001. Somethings you will never forget.

Cool truck! As a drag racer id say slide the axle ahead, lower the tire pressure, install an Allison Automatic, forget about the 2500 redline. That 8v92 silver series (I have one) was used in snow removal equipment and fire pumps with a single turbo at 750 hp. Later versions in the military were rated around 900. A two cycle is always on a compression stroke so they will tolerate much higher rpms without pulling a rod bolt etc. It has a fluid damper on the crank which allows for that 2900 rpm. It would probably wind 4,000. But dont take my word for it. Just past conversations, a few experiences and hooking up with a few NTPA pullers with them (12v71s) . 4,000 wouldn't be pushing a 71series very hard. I THINK a few pulling 12v71s were running 5,000 rpms. But the flywheel and clutch etc better be right. I know of one 8v71 that regularly wrapped the tach around 2x! However, those 92 silver series had "soda shaker" 2piece steel pistons that are heavier. Mabey thats why 71s wind so high??

He does an okay job building stock motors, but he really learned a lot from the guy in Oregon that helped him after his engine dropped the valve. That guy has a race truck and knows the performance side. Also there’s a race team up in Washington that used to run a 16 V 92 in a truck on the Salt flats in Bonneville. Last time I talked to their engine guy they switched to a V16 MTU engine.
