This is exactly what I wanted all auto manufacturers to do. Instead of full electric which might not be practical for places where gird powers isn't available.....use hybrid instead! Edison is a real one for this and I hope all other manufacturers or upcoming manufacturers follow suit. This is the real answer to lowering emissions besides planting more trees, and is already an existing tech from trains for over 70-80 years. Y'all are awesome

Diesel Electric has been the norm in the rail industry for a LONG time. Diesel Electric trucks make sense for very remote operations. Especially as the truck can act as a mobile power station. The next step after pulling is seeing if you can run this beauty on bio diesel. Get that multi fuel going and you've got a truck that'll out last the apocalypse. God, the more I watch this seeing you walk around the outside of the truck without touching the ground the more this reminds me of a diesel locative. I would love to see one pulling a road train in Australia...

If you can get a genset that runs on biodiesel and is roughly the right size, this truck will run on biodiesel. As they said - the inverter doesn't care where the power comes from! They talk about being able to run on propane!

It's the natural evolution of diesel electric, I have thought of it myself in idle musing but asdumed cleverer people than me already tried and dismissed. But you had the guts to try, being able to see a proper trucker take our industry in a sensible direction as opposed to pure battery is refreshing. Last week I had my first brush with non diesel trucking: compressed natural gas. I know it's better for the environment, but my inner 8 year old misses the big diesel v8 blowing through the stack of the Scania R520 I was in before. My only suggestion for this rig is cameras. You've made so many design concessions for driver visibility you've missed a chance at replicating the bumper mirror on euro cabovers.

You've got a new customer with me already. I like that you've taken truck design back to where it first started. Meaning putting the utilitarian mindset back in the design . Keep it up ! Go Edison ! 🎉🎉 Btw , at first glance I thought your prototype was a restored Pacific. Great looker. 👍

I'm glad to say you prove that is not the case! For years I've said to my wife "why doesn't someone come up with an electric kit to convert 1980's minivans to hybrid electric, especially those GM made vans with rear wheel drive", put an electric motor in the original drive line, and batteries under the floor. So many useable older vehicles would have a new lease on life instead of going to the scrap yard crusher!

I’ve known about these guys for a long time now, ever since this truck was just a wild idea. This video makes me so happy. This is the way you get the public to embrace electric. It’s been my personal opinion for years, that HYBRID is the way we should go for much of our new vehicles. Full electric just does not work practically for so many applications right now, but hybrid electric would work great. If these guys can prove it will work on logging trucks, in the toughest conditions in the world, it will go a long way to proving that this is the technology that we need to be pushing for, not the electric junk many companies and governments are attempting to force onto the roads. It takes a lot to make a guy who loves old iron, diesel engines, and horsepower to like an electric truck, but these guys did it. I hope they end up producing a bunch of these things, but I also hope the retrofit market grows for them too, cause that’s an awesome idea too, and so practical. Thanks for featuring these guys on this channel, they deserve the attention and this video will go a long way to opening more people’s eyes to what they’re doing.

Ferroequinologist here. Actually; Diesel trains do vary the prime mover speed with an 8 notch throttle depending on speed and load. The control system came from diesel electric submarines although the tech is from the 1890s /1910s. GE made a diesel electric locomotive for WWI. The real difference with modern stuff is the batteries. GE has even made a hybrid battery locomotive. The whole thing has come full circle. So yea why hasn't anyone does this before??? PS: I once specked a Marmon truck with a Duetz air cooled V8, ZF auto tranny, and a Spicer planetary rear end. Never had it built but it would of been sweet:) So I guess I could do a Duetz rather than a Cat?

Wouldn't you believe it? A group of ingenious Canadians has come up with a remarkable hybrid semi-truck that can effortlessly transport over 100,000 pounds of cargo in less than a year. What sets this innovation apart is that they actually consulted with truckers to understand what they wanted and needed in a truck, which is truly commendable. I must admit, I had expected innovations like this to have already been explored, but this one is truly impressive. I'm genuinely excited to see how it performs under a substantial load. I was a young man when I started at the steel mill and all the old timers thought motor drives were magic and were going to replace their jobs and they would never work as good etc, etc. But when you got them to talk about it when no one was around they agreed that in many ways they were a huge improvement. Absolutely brilliant hybrid design, and already inherently better than Tesla's offering of an all-electric semi. You can pretty much bet anything you buy from Tesla is going to be horribly over-engineered, and no one but them can work on it, never mind supply parts for it. I think Chase's design is what real truckers are looking for, going into the future. The fact that the design technology can be scaled to work on pretty much any truck makes it all that much better!!😉👍👍👍

The disposable everything is the real environmental problem. I love the use of common parts. If you can't make a decent looking truck without molded plastic front facing lighting component (headlight and marker light), you must have failed your way through design school. Keep up the good work Chase and crew, there is hope for north America yet. Get rich started towards hybrid the Fargo!

Well this is so fantastic. When Volvo Trucks in Sweden announced their 24 meter, 64 metric ton, fully electric tryck some years ago I had the exakt same idea as Edison Motor as an example of a better way to do it. I talked to some friends about it counting the pro's allmost point by point the same as in this video. So when I saw some Edison short videos allmost a year ago I got quiet excited. You've done a heck of a work here! 😎😎😎

As I'm not a ... idiot (F-I for short) I love this (serial Hybrid) idea. I also like that the thing is built with time tested generic parts in a way that makes it practical and easy to fix. Great job Edison!! :) I cant wait to see the small truck version.

I've watched this truck get built, and I must admit that I had some doubts at first that it would actually be a usable vehicle in the real world of trucking. But what I have just seen here is mighty impressive, can't wait to see it doing it all down and dirty, morning, noon and night, and in all weathers. I wish them well.

These people are the heros we need! I have never been so stoked for something in my life! I don't do trucking but everything they say just makes SENSE! no politics, no marketing, no share holders voices. Just a hand full of good dudes and a dream. NOTHING AND I MEAN NOTHING BUT SHEER RESPECT FOR YOU GUYS!!

Great episode. I have been following these guys for months. I am actually getting my CDL license atm. Edison has many great ideas. Solar paneling on dry van trailers to power the warehouses while they are docked, for one. Onward and upward. I can see guys putting 8"stacks on the generator exaust to keep the old ways going while simultaneously embracing the new fangled electramagicianal tech

This has to be one of my favourite videos. I don’t normally comment but I’m so happy for Chase and his accomplishments more firsts still to come. Excited to see Rich be a part of it in some way. 🎉😊 Congratulations to you both.
