This is a 2 week review of Aktiia 24/7 blood pressure monitor. Does it meet expectations? High blood pressure is known as the silent killer and anything that helps to manage hypertension and prevent stroke, heart attack and kidney failure is giant step in the right direction. The Aktiia 24/7 cuffless blood pressure monitor is a device that helps reduce high blood pressure incidents.

Algorithms can be very clever but inevitably have limitations. So grounding it to a proven physical technology gives me a lot of confidence.

Thanks for the review. One point I will make is that blood pressure monitors have to be calibrated. I just got delivery of an Aktiia today. Up to now I have been using an Omron with a cuff. Omron recomends calibration every six months and to do that I have to search out someone certified to do it, send it away and wait for its return. Even equipment used in Surgeries require calibration. It is just a way of assurance that the equipment is working as expected and that you can trust the output. Another point is that baths/showers/working out produce false positives, so it is not a real 'spike' you experienced while e.g. resting. I would/have never taken a reading after a workout/shower or strong physical activity.

Great video. It is a good product. I have been using it, had already needed replacement unit. Shame it's not sweat or water proof. I am sure in 2024 they could it.

Good review thanks! I have had one for a few months now and it has helped me but also frustrates me like you have seen with missing numbers... it seems fickle some days... the strap is fiddly too... worst part is getting it to recharge, very fiddly... But it is a good start and i like the cuff accessory which I use as a back up once a day, quieter than the old Omron I have. Having all the data was useful to share with my GP so she knows I don't lie! Shall take a look at the newer model and maybe that has better aspects.

Thank you for this review. I 100% agree with your point on granularity. The data points really need to be more granular for me to understand spikes and in turn make positive lifestyle changes. And not beimg waterproof? Jeez, what's up with that? I had hopes for this devices but no.. clearly it's not there yet.

The need/reasons to calibrate the device to a traditional sphygmomanometer is discussed on the manufacturer’s website.

Your content is great, is very informative and deserves way more views! Also one question; I know you said this product measures blood pressure only but does it measure heart rate as well? If so, does it measure it consistently in real-time or does it show averaged results every 2 hours or so? Thanks
@HeartoftheMatter

Thank you very much for your kind words. Yes Aktiia does measure pulse too. This is also averaged over every 2 hours like the blood pressure readings.

@@HeartoftheMatter Thanks, good to know! I was initially confused when I read somewhere on Aktiia's official website that the app shows a heart rate reading averaged out for the one whole day only, but this clears things up!

One year on from having the bracelet… I think you are being a bit picky about how the device functions. BP should be taken when you are not active..that’s how it works when getting readings normally. Also, if you generate your PDF report , you will see all the other readings it has taken to get the 2-hourly average. Anyway, the updated model is now shipping c/w coloured wrist bands and, more importantly, water proofing + faster data processing..I have just received mine, so hopeful that it will be quite good. 😊❤

Thank so much for your very objective and productive review. As far as I know, the “initializing” process that you need to do every 30 days is actually a calibration process. They measure the pulse waves! I guess device need to initialize a pulse wave to measure … I very much agree with you regarding the waterproof points. It would be really great not to have to initialize/calibrate it….

Thanks Zahi for your comments. Despite those downsides mentioned, I am still a fan. Those missing data points are very annoying, but I hope they can get that fixed soon. I still consider it the best tech in hypertension management.

@@HeartoftheMatter I agree with, I think the device doesn’t measure during high activity, it stops automatically… I think the device is really good but there is a room for improvements… let’s see the next generation.

I have been using this product which was very reliable. Unfortunately after 8 months the first one could not charge. So I was sent a replacement and the second replacement the same thing happen. I believe that the sensors part is of not a good quality, as with wrist and skin respiration may cause rust and also not sure why the charging pins after a while sinks in.For a price of £199.00 its not a very good product. Its a shame because it has the making of a great product.

Good review but you should have read the manual about WHEN it takes readings and when it does not. It only reads when it senses you are inactive. So if you are active for 3-4 hours it may not read at that time. Some different color bands are available on their website. It needs the cuff to calibrate once a month to ensure it is giving the best readings. I've only been looking at these for an hour but that seems to be longer than you researched before making this video!

A light based sensor is not going to work in water. This is why swimming heart rate needs a chest strap.
