In this video, I'm forging a small heart! This decorative forged steel heart tutorial walks you through each step. This type of heart can be made as a pendant, ornament, or wall hanger.
Join me, Roy, here at Christ Centered Ironworks as I'm making a metal heart. Forging a heart can be a lot of fun. After you are proficient at making a metal heart, you can apply it to all sorts of hand forged projects.
Making a steel heart is a technique that I believe beginneres can try their hand at.
A hand forged heart makes a nice Valentines Day gift or anniversary gift.

Roy, another great video and as I'm slowly getting back into forging (knives mostly) I'm slowly getting into blacksmithing because I'm taking your advice and not be a one trick pony so to speak. Watching you make mistakes in this video made me realize that even with all your years at the anvil everyone goofs up lol. Also please thank your wife for getting back to me the other day and I hope she told you what I wrote in the PM. So God bless you and your family and I look forward to the next video.

Quick money is good, any day. Especially if you can pound out a half dozen for the table, and demonstrate the process. I have found some simple items sell well, when you show the customer what is involved, 'sometimes' at least. Great video Roy!

Thanks for the inspiration. I've done some similar to this except I have the fold at the top of the heart. I tried making one the other day and was having difficulty because I was using some thick flat stock, and I was using a hammer to bend the curves rather than pliers. Watching this helped me realize there's an easier way to do it: work with round or square sock to get it to shape and then flatten it. I'll go forge one right now. :)

You are a true inspiration for us beginners, who think for themself can we even make a buck in this profession/hobby. Asked around, simple doorlatches go for 25 bucks a piece here (Finland) I can make 5 of those an hour, so i better get my hammer.

That is really a nice idea for beginners. I think if the heart is made of a bit smaller material, copper perhaps it would be a gread decoration for the crhristmas tree. Together with a red band. Should go really nice. Or do a little twist in the bar first to give the heart a little extra. Thanks for that great video

For a more advanced piece you can then celery weld onto a straight piece of bar then mount it to a shaped base plate (tenon and mortise) to make a cute little statue of a heart... with a substantial increase in price too.

Not hating as I like the idea but, asking $20 for .30¢ of metal that is roughly pounded into a heart won't sell anywhere I've been. Need more time spent on refining the result. If one were to take the time refine the presented results in the video, perhaps $14- $17 is possible but as presented it looks kind of backyard, unprofessional, not artisian produced in anyway. Too heavy of rod, for the size project for most of my clients taste. Nice video, well presented, result was just not up to professional artisian standards. At least not to mine, in my opinion.

Yeah but when you set up a stand in a festival and people look and say "oh thats cute" theyd be willing to pay 10-15 dollars because they arent experts and they just want something to show for going. Theres this guy that bends spoons into rings and sells them for five dollars a piece, probably making like 40 dollars an hour without putting almost any effort into it. Its hystericle
@ollie7070

And they dont know its 30 cents of steel or how they make it, so "hand crafted" sounds all the more cool to them
