Another common herb they like is lovage. Lovage is a green plant that forms twisted mats on the ground that are slippery one way and rough the other way because of microfibres all over. I would take my friend out at least once a day no matter the weather and my garden had everything. Since I knew that his instincts were much better than mine, I just watched, and this little guy knew exactly what he was doing. I had a small willow tree and he did like the small hanging branches, always nibbling just what he needed for that day of all the different wild herbs (aka weeds) in the garden.

I must be crazy. For years I thought that Lovage was the English name for what I was talking about, but it's actually Cleaver. All about it here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galium_aparine Apparently it goes by many names but after I realised my confusion I looked it up and yes, Lovage is also a good herb that rabbits like, although they do like the Cleavers a lot more, and although they are considered a weed, it is sometimes grown as an animal feed here in central Europe.

Really enjoyed the video, Amy! Suggestion for next time is to mention whether you're talking about fresh or dried, leaves vs flowers, etc. for all the named items. I have nearly all of the herbs listed but am still hesitant to give to my bun just in case the flower is safe but the leaves are not, for example. Thank you for a great and helpful video, nonetheless!

Echinacea is highly encouraged with the rescue I volunteer with. You can even give it from the “children’s” or “kids” echinacea (the liquid) from your Whole Foods market. Just make sure it’s organic and the sugar content is low or 0%!

Ok on echinacea, that’s Purple coneflower. I grow it in my flower garden and i don’t use pesticides. What part of it should I feed my buns? The seed heads? The stalks are very woody so I doubt there’s much nutritional value in them.

In regard to plantain, I’m sure you are speaking strictly of the leaves for rabbits. Am I correct? The picture you used shows the seeds which are used for humans to make their bowels move. Would seeds be given to the rabbits too?

Hi! Not a new owner but I kind of lack some clear info. Do you know if red willow is bad for rabbits? My mum has it in the garden but I haven't given it to Bessie yet, I only gave her the regular willow from my grandma's garden. I'd rather just pick the willow that's right there instead of having to wait a week for it...

That's good! As long as there aren't too many lying around and the rabbit is eating them, it's good and healthy. If the rabbit is overproducing them or not eating them, literally just Google "why is my rabbit producing too many cecotrophs" or "why is my rabbit not eating their cecotrophs" and there'll be plenty of information available

What do i do if my rabbit has fleas? I need urget help.
@XavierBodd
@XavierBodd 3 жыл бұрын
I would've thought that the only proven safe and effective treatment would be a regular old flea treatment from the vet. If you live in the U.K. the PDSA, RSPCA and Blue cross all fund vet treatment for animals for free or at a subsidied cost

@@XavierBodd i live in Australia in a town where there are no exotic vets.
@XavierBodd
@XavierBodd 3 жыл бұрын
@@greensunblackmoon7181 hmm. Do you live near enough to an exotic vet that you can just drive a couple of towns over? Understandable if not. I'd look into potentially bathing them if all else fails. I know you're not meant to because a lot of rabbits hate it but I've had to a couple times (my bf spilt cider on her 🙄) and as long as you do it correctly and your bunny isn't skittish it should be fine. It's the only thing I can think of that could help if you can't access a vets. For example I think enough olive oil suffocates headlice so many the same applies to fleas? BUT PLEASE GET OTHER PEOPLES OPINIONS BEFORE ATTEMPTING SOMETHING LIKE THAT. Just remembered flea combs exist. If your rabbit is freeroam, reduce them to a pen and then wash everywhere they've had access to (bedding, rugs etc) on a high temp. Then comb them with a flea comb for as long as they'll tolerate several times a day. Vaccuum or thoroughly clean the pen everyday. Probs best to change clothes or wear a binbag just in case. Just keep combing and hopefully you'll get them all after several days. Just be very thorough and keep it up for a few days after you think you've got them all just to be safe. Definitely try this before some weird fur mask and bath lol. You also might be able to buy rabbit flea treatments for pet shops. I know you can get small animal flea treatments from pet shops here but idk how safe they are for rabbits so look into that before doing it. Also just because a vet isn't advertised as being rabbit savvy doesn't mean they know nothing about rabbits. They're still a vet at the end of the day. When booking an appointment ask if anyone has a particular interest in rabbits and there might be a vet who hasn't got rabbit specific qualifications but they've owned rabbits for years or they'll research before prescribing you medication. A vet is still a vet at the end of the day. Speak to them about your concerns and maybe they'll take extra care. You should also probably have your rabbit registered with a vet practice in case of emergencies. Just listen to your gut feeling. If your vet's advice sounds dangerous, don't follow it until you've done your own research. Rabbit forums and the subreddit are also great for advice on this kind of thing. Especially forums.
@greensunblackmoon7181
@greensunblackmoon7181 3 жыл бұрын
@@XavierBodd Thanks for the advice. I will probably start off by combing my rabbit with a flea comb and see how that goes. It may take a while considering i also have a dog who sleeps with me at night (my rabbit is an indoor rabbit) i'll see in removing his fleas the best i can too. If that dosent work I'll have to resort to a vet in the neighbouring town.
