I’ve spent 20 minutes barefoot in nature every day for 20 days in a row. I want to see if my feet can get tougher and stronger in such a short time. Usually I wear barefoot shoes. They are already a big help in regaining the feet's natural potential and strength. But it is still a barrier between me and the rough forest floor. Can my bare feet handle gravel, mud, wood and everything else what nature throws under my feet?
To get some sort of comparison before and after, I run a 500 meter course completely barefoot. The limit is not my strength or endurance. It depends on how sensitive and vulnerable my feet are to the rough forest floor. If I run the course faster after the 20 days my feet should have gotten tougher.

This is wonderful. Congratulations ! I was born (in 1959) to live barefoot. In fact, walking barefoot is natural, so normal. Humans have evolved barefoot and the feet are well-equipped to handle any problems they might encounter on the ground. Aside from accidentally stepping onto something that might be painful (e.g. a Lego) you’ll be fine. In fact, it’s much healthier to go barefoot, than to let your foot sweat inside your shoe, creating a dark, damp and warm environment, perfect for the growth of bacteria and fungi. Aside from that, your average modern shoe is too narrow for the human foot, meaning it will compress and eventually deform your foot causing all kinds of issues. - And in fact, "Going barefoot is the gentlest way of walking and can symbolise a way of living - being authentic, vulnerable, sensitive to our surroundings. It’s the feeling of enjoying warm sand beneath our toes, or carefully making our way over sharp rocks in the darkness. It takes years to build the sole leather to be able to run on gravel but you did realy good in just 20 days. Do yourself a favor and don't stop going barefoot. There are so many health benefits to it

In New Zealand, its normal for us to go barefoot. I went to school barefoot and so did most of my friends. In high school it was a bit difficult because we had to wear uniforms, but I would usually take my shoes and socks off after school. Work is somewhat of a problem though, as I work at a corporate office so you have to wear shirt, tie, pants and dress shoes. Hate it!!, but there is casual Fridays. I try to go barefoot as much as I can...its natural to us

As kids in Australia we used to skateboard barefoot between the heat on the roads in summer, friction, and nasty plants and critters I look back like it had to have been a dream. Then I see kids still doing it sometimes. I tried again and not a chance. I think if you did 20min a day from childhood to adulthood it would be remarkable what our feet are capable of and perhaps beneficial.

Keep going MyOutdoorAdventure. With practice you will be able to run for hours barefoot. A few things that will help: Walk, don't run, on concrete. Believe me. It will damage your ankles. Start with dirt, mud, vegetation, sand. If it means going 'off path' so be it. You will discover so much more about your beautiful country if you interact with it this way. Check it out. Previously invisible paths will become obvious once you leave the man-made path. In addition to the changes in skin density and pain thresholds, running barefoot will, with practice, result in profound changes in the musculature of your feet. Your big toe will become much stronger, and more thumb-like. Sounds a bit weird, I know. Eventually, you'll come to realise how disabled our species has become. All for now. you will have noticed yourself that you run differently barefoot than with shoes. Have you also felt that the impact of walking is much gentler on your system when you run barefoot? Much less shocks in your ankles, your knees and your back. the bones of your forefoot are made to deal with those shocks. it is much healthier for your body to walk and run barefoot; even if it takes much longer. go slowly. congratulations on your experiment. I hope to see many more beautiful barefoot adventures from you.👣

Yes there is a much gentler impact when running barefoot. I don't dare to make such long and powerful steps. I would only do that with shoes or when I know that there is no stone or something similar on the ground. It was all about making short and quick steps when I wanted to run a bit faster. It feels more natural indeed.

There is a significant change when you are constantly getting grounded for several hours. It greatly increases your endurance and recovery. You really need to get rid of the shoes entirely in order to fully adapt and appreciate normal foot and body function .

Great video. I really admire your discipline in regards to your hobbies. How are the soles of your feet still so smooth and beautiful after all that walking and exposure to the ground?

Really enjoyed watching this! Peaceful and insightful. I also have barefoot shoes (Tracker FG's) and I always enjoy walking barefoot outdoors on soft ground. I might try what you did too. Was wondering where are you located - my guess is Switzerland? Also was wondering what makes you decide between wearing the tracker vs primus trail SG's? I was thinking of getting some SG trail shoes for warmer days when the trackers become unbearably hot and stuffy , and also perhaps I could use them for Football (on false grass), would you say that the primus trail SG's would hold up to playing football?

Often I use the tracker boots when it's cold outside or when I plan to go away from the path and I need some more protection from for example thorns. I wear the SG trail shoes when it's not freezing or when I am running. But I have no experience with how they perform when playing football. I guess that when you use them quite often for that they won't last very long. But that's just my guess.

There are many who have put out transitioning-to-barefoot-shoes information; there must be info about healthy ways to build a sole callus, too. Probably going to go look for some now ;~)

I cant be bothered wearing or buying big boots again. I have minimalist trainers and clogs/crocks now. to many roads here (for now) to go barefoot all the time as I am not used to it. the only reason I will keep something to cover my feet is that I burnt my bare feet on the tarmac a few years ago...

Youre feet were sensetive because the shoes cause you to gain foot strength and mobility not the callus that makes it easier to walk on stuff
