I’m familiar with French cleats, but have not used them yet. I recently built a new wall in my shop that would be ideal for installing them. I did a search on KZfaq this morning for additional ideas and came across your videos. I was surprised to find you had put so many really good ideas in each video! Too many KZfaqrs spend 15 minutes talking about their projects and 4-5 minutes creating them. Your videos are well made, interesting, and concise. You’ve earned another subscriber. I’m looking forward to watching even more n other topics, as well. Thanks for all the time and effort. By the way, I’ve been woodworking for 55 years, and while I admit to watching a lot of videos, I don’t find too many content providers that I add to my subscription list. Keep up the good work!

I really like the idea of using French cleats to mount a grinder on the wall. Rather than 'just' storing it on the wall, it would be even better if the grinder could be mounted on the wall oriented so it could be used. You could create a whole sharpening station on the wall, taking up very little floor space and within in easy access.
@vistathingy

I did this in my garage. Perhaps the cleat wasn't deep enough, but when operating it easily climbs out of the cleat (instantly). I strategically added a threaded insert and use a bolt with a 3D printed knob to securely attach it.

you could add a cleat to some speakers and run the cables along the very top rail, and potentially even add an aux cord to the charging station/outlet protector, so when you're wanting tunes, they're hung simply on the wall, but not immobile. you could make a dustpan holder, similar to the air compressor at 4:00, so it's on hand when you need it, and potentially have a different way to hold the brush so you don't need to always nest them (as many dustpan/brushes are designed to interlock) you could make an extra braced swing arm lamp, hang it on a cleat, extend it to where you need, and just plug into the wall. picture frames on a french cleat to add that "home" feel. or putting a picture of your favorite car/movie to personalize the workshop. (or a white board) drill screws into a cleat at the right spacing for a power strip, and maybe even include a protector to it, so you can have more power points when you need them hot glue a cleat to the handle of your shop vac (not the shop vac itself) so when you're working, you can simply hang the nozzle when you put it down, and you don't need to feel around for the head. make a frame for a paint pallet, to hold it horizontally, so if you're ever working near the cleats and need a not-floor level to store it on while you actively use it. bonus if you make a lid that seals it properly, but cling wrap is generally fine for that stuff. making a "basketball trainer". basically, an oversized funnel, the directs stuff into a bin. good to not need to aim specifically at the bin. making a regular basketball hoop. always fun to shoot a wadded up rag/paper through a hoop, and if you put it over a bin, it's extra points. a hand sanitizer station, whether it's liquid soap (assuming you don't need to open a door on your way to a sink) or regular alcohol based hand sanitizer, having it hanging up near a door is a good habit to get into. adding a cleat to your table sled could also be good, to just hang it up when you're not using it. as to upgrades. I'd also add a pencil sharpener to the pencil holder, just so you always have one on hand. a better way to store the circular saw blades than the one you suggested in the last video is making almost a CD case. cut out an x inch hole from a piece of 1/4" plywood, then laminate it with another piece of 1/4" ply with a 1" finger hole located near the front, and add a little pull tab, similar to a manila folder (staggering them to make them readable). make a shelf unit with 5/8" spacing between 1/2" slots, and you've got a safe way to store the blades, as none of the edges are exposed. bonus, you can whack a label on the pull tab/write with sharpie to label the disk slots, rather than trying to identify them by the teeth/pulling them out one at a time

Quick Tip, for number 8 the wheel stop. If you slide a bycicle inner tube over the kleats your using as wheel stops, it act like a non slip grip. You can get old innterubes for free from most bycicle shops, you can cut the remainer up as grips for screw drivers etc or in to 1/4" or 1/2" strips and have them as powerful elestic bands.

Great ideas but sure uses up a lot of wall space. I really like that outlet protector/cover. How do you keep the dust from collecting on everything that is hanging on the walls? Even with dust collection at the sanders and saws I still end up with a lot of dust on anything not in a cabinet or drawer.
@SpecificLove7
@SpecificLove7 4 жыл бұрын
No matter how much dust collection used, there is still some that gets airborne. So I just use a leaf blower a few times a year to remove the resting dust layer.

Question: So I just hung my Cleats up. Getting ready to start building some holders. Now do you use the same size hanging cleat on every project, or do you cut some down smaller, for certain builds for Aesthetics? Thanks! 👍 🇨🇦
@SpecificLove7
@SpecificLove7 Жыл бұрын
If the tool/holder is heavy, I would keep the same width for strength and balance. If it is lighter, you might be able to get away with two narrow cleats on each side of the back. Just make sure they are level with the wall cleat and each other.

Do you have a video on making a FC wall. IE. material, dimension, spacing. Not used a plywood backer ext?
@SpecificLove7
@SpecificLove7 4 жыл бұрын
I do not. FC can be used on most walls with success as long as they are attached directly to the studs with long screws. As for sizing and spacing, that is up to you. Just make the cleats larger for the heavier locations. And I would stick with atleast 3/4 inch thickness for strength.
