With regards to fine dining, the moment I got quite skillful at cooking (thanks to a certain rat being my childhood inspiration), I do not eat at restaurants much. Some high-end restaurants truly offer a startling experience and I have treamendous respect for the chefs´ work. However, when I do opt for the occasional restaurant visit, I like when the ambience is not too sterile, which is mostly the case with said establishments. Do not get me wrong, the establishment itself is not the problem, but it is usually the guests who tend to ruin my experience (such as their treatment of the staff). In my opinion, honest food served in moderate portions, polite staff and guests and balanced ambient atmosphere beats anything.

Small note: if you are going to go to a Michelin star chef's restaurant, if it is in any way an option, always, always, always get the tasting, chef's menu, 'chef's experience' or however they market it, with the wine pairings - indeed, one of the best one's I had in France was merely labeled the 'prix fixe'. Any given dish you might not be in love with, but a half dozen or 10 removes allows them to show off both real art and skill. The best experiences are very much like a Symphony, with a returning to themes and variations over courses, in color, flavor, textures. About the only caveat is generally the whole table are to be served the same, but they will usually (invariably in my experience, but who knows) let you split the wine pairing with your spouse/date. Also, allergies or strong distastes can be dealt with (almost invariably). If there is a wine you don't particularly like, you are free to ask for another - but beware! Things that seem a little questionable may very well bring out qualities when paired with the course that are the product of the insane genius that marks a world-class sommelier and chef team. Some of these people are out of their minds, using flavor and texture combinations that you think couldn't possibly work - and while _sometimes_ they don't, often times they really do. Depending on the number of courses, you should make sure to leave at least 2 hours, and often upwards of 3. I've had multiple meals where I literally had no idea that 3+ hours had passed. Also, starting with an early dinner is generally a little better, if that's an option.

Glad to see I was right! ;) My biggest examples of buyers remorse are a couple of suits that I got from a direct-to-consumer website called tweedmaker. They were having a sale, I liked the look of the suits, they were very inexpensive for custom suits, so I ordered two. When I got them, they didn't fit well, they draped horribly, and they were just really cheaply made. I could have bought one much nicer suit for the price that I bought those.

Surprised you hated Cosme! I went with my wife recently as well, and we loved it. It completely changed the way I make margaritas (hint - the secret ingredient is Combier, not Cointreau, Grand Marnier, curacao, or any other triple sec. Only Combier will do. It should also be shaken and served up with only 3 ingredients - 2oz jose cuervo tradicional blanco, 3/4oz combier, 3/4oz lime juice. No salt rim!). Also, you probably don't get much regional Oaxacan food in Minnesota, but the reason that Cosme only serves it as a sauce is because it has such incredible depth of flavor, even more so than most other places' 20+ ingredient moles. Each batch has a little bit of the prior one going back (no joke) a thousand years. Why put such an amazing sauce over a dumb piece of chicken? An heirloom corn tortilla is all you need! My biggest regret purchase was a Penguin white dinner jacket made out of polyester that I only wore once - at a family New Years party at home. We didn't even leave the house.

most lesser priced camera's have stabilization built in. Take for example the Canon series. I know you like Nikon (so do I) but with a lesser type canon camera with video, the stabilization is remarkable. I can shake the camera and you won't notice it in the video. When I first started buying suits, I went to Goodwill, salvation army, or thrisft stores. Got some good suits for 12 dollars a piece that actually fit and some good ties that were quality as well. BUUUT... there were many shirts, sportscoats, and blazers that didn't fit. The shirts is because I got 33 inch sleeves when I needed 35 inches and the blazers / sportscoats because most were boxy, traditional size 44 or 42 longs when I needed a 42 short.. The bad thing about this I thought it would be cheaper to just have some of them altered by a tailor since it would be a lot cheaper than buying new. Even after they were tailored they still felt like I was wearing my father's clothes. Because I don't like incompleteness I end up giving the Blazer/sportscoats away and most of the shirts. I lost about 700+ dollars on trying to be cheap lol.

I haven't yet taken the plunge on these things in practice because frankly I am overwhelmed still by the idea of buying the "right" kind of pieces that will last, look great, and pair well with a lot of things. Anyway, I find that I almost always have to turn the volume to max and be in a quieter environment to hear your dialogue in the videos (not using headphones). This gets rather frustrating because you give a lot of great information that I want to hear. For what it's worth, no, I don't have hearing issues and I find that the music is fine, it just seems the dialogue needs to be better normalized to an appropriate level. Appreciate all the videos!

Strange, I have zero issues and we tried tons of devices and browsers

@@gentlemansgazette Yeah, can't say on that. I have a OnePlus 6T (Android). Like I said, it isn't that one can't hear the dialogue but overall it is fairly easily drowned out even at my max volume. I guess if it checks out with everyone else then maybe it's my problem. Just wanted to put it out there in case it wasn't just me. Thanks again!

AGREED on Room and Board furniture. Bought a rug, a sofa, and a chair from them. They all fell apart within a few years, and support from the store was terrible!

The video says to me: buy something from Fort Belvedere, they make everything better than the others! Greetings from Germany

WE focus on quality, that is indeed true but there are other brands that offer quality goods as well, and we did many videos highlighting many other brands. At the same time, many Fort Belvedere products started because I could not find the quality I wanted...

Gentleman's Gazette this was just a joke and no offense, if I could afford it I would buy something from FB but I only can afford something off the rack.

@@gentlemansgazette Jon Shanahan's comments on FB ties nudged me towards the realisation that FB's value proposition is of an exceptionally good price/quality ratio.

I bought a blazer and only wore it once due to it being a poor fit. Terrible purchase BUT it was the night I met my partner so maybe it was just a different sort of investment? Have to agree about the crew neck jumpers, have had heaps and they're OK to wear with a crew neck T-shirt but a V-neck can be worn with crew or V-neck T-shirts, dress shirts, shirt and tie; much more versatile.

Try styling your green jacket with a longish black scarf draped behind the hood and wearing the jacket not all buttoned up. Wear the sweater with that shirt without a tie and with the top button unbuttoned. And take the pointed corners out and above the crew neck. A short scarf is worn crossed without knotting inside a jacket. It won't be bulky. All the best!

You are right about appliances. Let’s say you want to get your stainless steel stove, range hood, microwave, fridge and dish washer to match. They are not going to match exactly when sold under the same name. With regard to crew neck sweaters, I believe that you need to look for ones that are not cut too high. When the collar is set lower, you can see the collar of the shirt underneath. I agree that most of the time, you can’t make out the tie when wearing a crew neck.

Regret buying my 2011 mustang without heated seats. I was only 20 at the time so money was somewhat tight but never go cheap when it comes to this option! The winters are a nightmare!!

They totally ripped you off at cosme, Raphael. Mole is ment to be served as a dressing for chicken and rice, not by itself 😂 Next time you crave mole, you'd probably be better off coming all the way down to Mexico and buying a full plate for $3.

I regret spending money on any clip suspenders. I should have just sewn buttons inside the waist and bought proper button suspenders.

Kinda looks like the new uniforms of the cleaning personnel at Mexico City; apparently they are all green instead of yellow or orange so you can't see them during night

I regret not learning about quality menswear sooner then i did (this year 2019) and buying a lot of "nice" of the rack cloths for the past years but still how can i complain i am only 30. and it is going to take time to transition into made to measure and bespoke garments completely

I'm right there with You on crew neck sweaters... As a singer, I hate having anything even near my throat, I need to feel free of any encumbrance.

Last year I bought a pair of your socks, and I've worn them at least twice a week, and they are superb and still hold up beautifully. Saving up for a pair of those gloves now.

I regret listening to the store clerk while buying raw denim jeans. She said it should be quite tight in the beginning, and after the first wash they shrunk so much i couldn't get them on... I need to go to the gym..
