The Chevrolet El Camino was in production for twenty seven years going through six generations. That seems like a pretty successful model.

Ridiculous to include El Camino at all, let alone being number one. In the final narration they mention the production run was 28 years and in the sentence before, "the manufacturer (ummm, thats GM) would have to remove it sooner or later". What an ignorant way to build an argument. It was so bad they had to keep it for 3 decades. LOL

Like a lot of things in their narration, that caught my attention immediately. What's really sad is that they listed the 4.0 inline 6, which was one of the greatest engines ever used in modern Jeeps. The Comanche was plagued with the 2.8L V6 and the Peugeot automatic transmission, which was notorious for failures, including broken crankshafts.

I have a friend who owns a 2005 Avalanche. It has over 450,000 miles on it and she drives it everyday to work and back which is a 60 mile round trip. Plus she drives it on weekends to do her shopping, running around etc. The truck has never had any mechanical issues, ever. All she's ever done is routine stuff like oil changes, tire's, batteries, you know routine. She's still driving it in rain, snow, heat or whatever and she doesn't even have a garage, just a carport. So maybe she just got lucky and got a good one that was made on a good day. I've heard that if you run VIN numbers and find out what day your vehicle was made can sometimes make a difference. The best one's are supposed to be the one's made Tuesday's, Wednesday's and Thursday's. Reasons supposedly because the worker's coming in on Monday dread starting the workweek and the worker's are ready to start the weekend on Friday's. Don't know if that's true but I have a 1972 Pontiac Firebird that was made pre-strike at GM on a Thursday and it's been a great car! Now back to the video....

Yes, the story is Monday built vehicles were built by hung over, angry union workers so they took it out by welding the ashtry doen, or dropping a bolt in the Ricker panel so it rattled forever. Friday built care were built with UAW workers stoned or drunk already by lunch so they couldn't concentrate and didn't care. So buy a Tuesday-Thursday car. Wit the use of robotics and mu h better QC controls, only implemented when the Japanese were eating Detroit's lunch, vehicles are much better. My 2017 Ford F250 6.7 diesel has been very good, being perfect for thr first 41,000 miles. I now have 110,000 miles with only minor trim and accessory issues that were fixed right away. The engine and tranny were pretty much trouble free. Takes me all over.

The friend I was talking about's husband has an F-350 that has over 520,000 miles but it is a diesel and has had a lot of work done on it but it's still going. That says a lot!

Ok #1 the 82 Rampage was not a 4wd it was a front wheel drive. With a 2.2L 4 cylinder standard. Built on the Dodge Charger chassis. I kinda liked my 83. Just hated the 2.2L. It also had a V6 option. Not sure of the size. #2 The Chevy LUV (which stands for Light Utility Vehicle) didn't stop production in 1980 it stopped in 1982. However, the body style was changed. And in 1982 was only a 4x4 with a Diesel engine available. And the 2 wheel drive was now under the S-10 badge. Which you showed as well. Little note Jeep was also got into the LUV with adding the 4x4 option in 1979. Making in my opinion a very good off road truck out of it... So long as you use 4 low. The later model 105hp 1.8L 4 cylinder was very torquey at low rpm. But still lacking at high rpm. 65 was purity much top speed and it took a while to get there after about 45mph. By the was I had 1 1977 and 4 1979 including my last on the only yellow 79 4x4 with factory AC that was built. When it finaly was parked it had 600k on it and still running strong. I only parked it because I cold not get an idler arm for it and the frame started rusting in 2.

The Mercedes was never offered in the USA. The Ramcharger was marketed as a SUV and not a pickup. The Dodge Rampage only had 1 car based competitor at the time in the US which was a Volkswagen. Both of these were Front Wheel Drive (FWD) and not 4wd as was mis-pronounced. This wasn't a popular segment at the time. Chevy and GMC small trucks were never discontinued, they were just renamed! Showing stock footage of a GMC Typhoon which was the fastest production truck in history at the time is not the best way to describe normal average S-15 pickups. Any Toyota making a list of worst American pickups in US history is just laughable! This video needs much more polishing for prime time. There isn't even any criteria for the choices offered in the video. I am assuming this was AI generated or at the very least produced by someone not familiar with the American market...Sorry but there is so much wrong with this video it's a waste of time. None of the trucks, and none of the reasons listed, were legitimate. If I had to name a truck that was actually a failure, it would be the 1980 (and later) Ford F-100. This was the last iteration of the F-100 before it was discontinued. At this time, Ford began putting a large number of closely-spaced holes in the frame, and those holes were HUGE, like five or six inches in diameter and with only about one or two inches between them. This was done to save weight. As a result, the frame was so spindly that a very small person walking around in the cargo bed would cause one to two inches of misalignment at the joint between the cargo bed and the cab. Walking from one side of the box to the other would cause it to twist through about three to four inches of arc. Any reasonable amount of cargo in the box would cause the truck to sag a few inches in the center. None of the F-100 trucks from that era (1980 and I think about a year or two beyond that time) survived for very long. All of them died of frame failure, and it happened almost right away. These trucks could be seen all over the place, out of service due to badly bent frames, just from "trying" to carry the kinds of loads that a half-ton pickup should be able to tolerate with no problem. THAT is the kind of thing that deserves the title "worst pickup truck".

After that, came the 1967-1973 Jeepster Commando. From 1981-1985, there was the Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler, which was just a CJ-7 with a longer bed. Running nearly the longest, was the full-size Gladiator/J-series: the 1963-1987 J-10 and J-20, which was made famous in the movie, Twister. The compact Comanche model run went from 1986-1992. As with everything Jeep, their drivetrains were nearly indestructible, but on a quiet night, you can hear them rust.

I wonder if there were any true facts offered by this channel in this video. Just with the Comanche the 4.0 I6 produced a minimum of 177 HP not 115, that was for the ZGM 2.8 V6. It was not the only pickup produced by Jeep, Willys Jeep pickup, J series Gladiators. And with the El Camino it stated it had to stop production sooner rather than later but it was produced for thirty + years, an amazing run for any line.

Jeep also made the Gladiator pickup truck from '62-'88..I had a '64. Valves went pretty early on that AMC V8. I liked it while it lasted. But it didn't. Wonder why Izuzu didn't offer a turbocharged version of their diesel. It's been well established as a reefer motor..

Isuzu made the Luv for GM, Nissan made the Courier for Ford. Toyota never subbed their trucks out, and made their own great reputation. Dodge didn't put enough stuff under the Cummins to hold it up when they changed the bodies. I'm still partial to the '80's Square Body as a solid pickup, especially with the live front hung under leaf springs. NP 203/205 transfer cases and Dana axles,or GM Corporate.

Cant take this video seriously right off the bat. The Avalance was powered by the same engines and trans as the full size pickups, these GMT800s are known for their reliability. The 4L60E is a weak point but rhe rest of the powertrain, regardless of engine, is as rock solid as you can get. 4.8, 5.3, 6.0 and even the 8.1 big block that was a rare option in the Avalance 2500, were all exceptionally reliable and generally great engines.

And I beat on them all with little maintenance or care being a kid. Now that I'm older and take care of things differently I wish I had another chance with a few old vehicles I've owned! For real though!

Hmmm. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree regarding what constitutes "worst in history" when it comes to vehicles. To me, mechanical and structural deficiencies are what makes a a vehicle a bad choice: engines that like to blow head gaskets, biodegradable transmissions, severely rust-prone bodies, electrical components that fail consistently in whack-a-mole fashion, dangerous handling and braking characteristics, etc. Some on this list most definitely qualify. But pickups that were simply introduced at a bad time considering better offerings from competitors, over-priced or designed to provide better fuel economy at the expense of lighter loads and slower acceleration? These don't necessarily make a vehicle bad, only a different choice when it comes to a customer's willingness to compromise one set of attributes in favor of others. The Ford Courier and Toyota Tacoma are examples of decent vehicles as long as used for their intended purpose within the limit of their designed-in capacities. And the Mazda B3000 was a Ford Ranger with Mazda badges. It was a tough little truck, but over-priced vs. its Ford twin. As for my list of worst-ever pickups, I'd include: 1. The 1970s-vintage Mazda Rotary pickup. Even though I like those old rotaries and have owned several in RX7s, it was a poor choice for a small pickup - providing little in low-end torque while delivering the same fuel consumption of an in-line-six-powered American full-sized pickup but only half the payload or towing capability. This engine is best suited for sports cars and airplanes, not pickups or farm machinery. (but having said all of this those Mazda REPUs are now highly coveted among rotary engine enthusiasts with a taste for something different). 2. Any Ford pick-up with the Ecoboost engine. Don't believe me? Do the research, just like I did. 3. Early-70s GM pickups with their tin-worm affliction and resulting box, fenders and cab-corner-delete characteristics. Otherwise these were awesome trucks. 4. 2000s-and-up Dodge pick-ups with their expensive transmission issues.

The 2006 Frontier transmission issuess were not a weak transmission, but a faulty radiator that mixed coolant with ATF. If caught in tome and replaced with a better radiator, problem solved . THE TRANSMISSION itself is good. And of course, the MANUAL trans goes forever . My 1987 Nissan is on its original trans at 425,000 miles. They have been documented to go a million miles.
