There's something that's really bugging me ia the fact that Erica's last music video she did was when she was 19, which means she was doing music videos around 15/16. Shocking and genuinely sad that she was being exploited and being taken advantage of. She grew up so fast and never got to have a proper upbringing filled with love, guidance, supervision and protection..

As outta pocket Erica Mena can be sometimes it truly breaks my heart that she was sexually abused at 2/3 yrs old, and then be a underage video vixen, and then be 16 dating a 30 yr old man (Raul Conde), having his son at 19, was in a abusive relationship with him. The video vixen era will always be my ultimate favourite era. So many beautiful women mentioned in this video who fully capitalised and profited from their beauty in their prime years. Especially Karlie, Claudia, Kenya Moore and Serious from Flavor Of Love and Brooke. They all had very successful careers during that time.

I love that this era of music captured the natural beauty and essence of black women. After watching some BET documentaries on video vixens, I wish there wasn't so much ugliness that took place on set; everything from the mistreatment to the sexual objectification left a bad mark on these women. I'm just glad we have this era to appreciate/look back on to see how beauty standards have drastically changed (for the worse).

That's why it's so heartbreaking 💔 to see some of these women that were already naturally beautiful & would've aged well... but then they get all these damn surgeries & look nothing of their former selves & I wish they would've stayed strong & not fold under the pressure of having to look a certain way ( basically like everyone else) & maybe just maybe kids looking at these young ladies wouldn't feel the need to do it as well bc now they feel they have insecurities now just by looking at that or what ppl say... new when I look at women it's like they are just a shell of their former selves & when I go back & see what that person looked like ( gotta google search bc it just makes u wonder) but the difference is scary like not the same person at all, they think they look better & just imo they looked way better before the surgeries, anyways hope u enjoy u day!!

Seems like the girls were wayyyyy prettier back then and they all didnt look the same like they do these days. U actually got a variety of of beauty and you had all different shades and skin tones and bodies. You didnt have to have the fattest ass or bbls. As long as u had a pretty face and nice frame you were good. They looked better with their natural bodies. I remember alot of those videos growing up and wanting to be one of them sooo bad. Im now 32 and watching this just took me bk to my teenager years when all id do is watch music videos on bet n mtv.

Shay Johnson was always gorgeous. I remember her scenes on Flavor of Love, she was shown with no makeup and she looked so good. Karlie Redd was always bad AF. BFTV I love your shared appreciation for the video vixen era. I wish I had a time machine so I could go back and live my 20's during that time. That decade produced some of the most iconic aesthetics and music still to this date. I remember being in highschool and being so geeked to watch flavor of love and wanting to be a video model. I even had and read the Karine Steffens book when I was like 16 lol. I briefly pursued being a video vixen in my local city but then eventually went to college. These videos are so nostalgic and near and dear to my heart! And can we talk about how beautiful their bodies were?? The natural slim fit look was everything. This is back when you actually had to be baddie. I hope that aesthetic makes a come back.

Now they don't care about the size anymore, now in these they normalized the overweight and obese to be in videos and they all over the internet showing their bodies like it's sexy when it's not, they changed the perception of their bodies over the years.

I wish the show Candy Girls lasted more seasons. I enjoyed getting to know the beautiful ladies I'd always see in music videos. I remember the episode when they were doing Lil Wayne's Lolipop video. These women are timeless beauties and are all still beautiful today. I might not be a fan of some of their personalities/behavior on TV but their face cards never decline.
