• How to Make a Pressure... How to Make a Pressure Brake Bleeder
Just a quick video showing how I replaced the front brake pads & rotors and leaking brake caliper on a 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4 truck. The rotors were worn down metal to metal and making a terrible grinding noise when braking. Since the owner ignored the noise, the brake caliper seals eventually failed causing a massive leak. This would be the same for 1999-2006 Chevrolet Silverado trucks with the rear single piston caliper and 6 lug wheels.
The Torque specs I found online:
Caliper bracket bolt 129 ft lbs
Caliper Slide Pin bolt 74 ft lbs
Brake Caliper Fitting Bolt 30 ft lbs
Tools needed:
11mm socket and / or wrench
T 55 Torx Bit - amzn.to/3590iuO
18mm socket and or wrench
breaker bar or long handle wrench
Sil-glyde or other brake grease - amzn.to/2LLGTs8
C-clamp or Caliper Compression tool (if you're not changing the calipers) - amzn.to/2LKBQIB

Brand new to this, but can't see how, if the brake line connector is torqued to a standard 30 ft lb how are you assured the hole in the connector and the hole in the bolt are aligned?

On this truck, I ended up replacing the caliper which comes already pushed in. If you're not replacing the caliper, you would need to push the caliper piston back in with a C-Clamp or other caliper compression tool. You can also wedge a small screwdriver through the small opening in the caliper and pry between the brake pads & rotor pushing the piston back in. Thanks for watching! -Dan the Fix it Man

But how! I used a breaker bar mine 18mm bolts are like god mode stuck.... I got 1 after 2 hrs. But the other it won't come for nothing.

Hey so I'm in the same situation I need to know how to get fresh boots into the bracket. Do I need to pre-grease them or what? Please help

Hi Nick, If you're referring to the small slide pin boots, I think you should be able to get them in place with a little sil-glyde or similar brake grease. I don't remember for sure how they went in, but I am pretty sure I have changed some similar to this one in the past. It looks like when I changed these out, the boots were already installed on the replacement bracket. Thanks for watching, I hope you get it figured out ok. Take care, -Dan the Fix it Man

Sometimes you can tap the torx bit with a hammer a few times and that impact breaks them loose. Or you can try some PB Blaster or similar penetrating oil on them. Or you can try heating it up? Best of luck to you! Dan the Fix it Man

Or if you have an impact wrench… I usually go to the high torque cordless M18 impact by Mikwaukee

You might need to have someone step on the pedal and pump it up while you open the bleeder and release the pressure a few times. There’s lots of videos on KZfaq that show how to bleed brakes. Sorry, I don’t have one specifically on that. I had a pressure bleeder which helped push the old fluid through and get all the air out. If you can, sometimes it helps to just step on the pedal even with the bleeder open to get the gravity method to work… Best of luck to you -Dan the Fix it Man
