The cutting out problem came back after about 2 weeks of no problems. I thought the problem was fixed. Changing the pickup coil because it is one of the few things I have not replaced yet. Hope this fixes it.

I can tell you what the problem is. FIrst it is a Polaris. Second you better check your camshaft. They did not harden them and they wear the loabs done. Check it out. Trust me. I have the same problems. Replaced everything electrical. Fiannly took it to the shop. $ 100.00 later he said here ya go. They had a recall years ago. They refuse to fix any more of them. I tried. They have the worst customer service of any company I have dealt with. Ever. You can go in and adjust the valvesand that should tell you. Or see if they are opening. Normally its the exhaust valves

I know you did not catch this on your video but your starter bushing had a piece broke on it. Just before you place your bendix back on is when you can see it. The outter edge was broke off just a little toward the top. My Polaris had a piece broken also and that is how I spotted yours broken. Easy enough to replace but expensive at $17.50 on Ebay. As for the gasket, it does not come with one from factory but after-market cost for one is $16 on Ebay also. Why factory didn't use one is beyond belief. Good video and I hope all turn out well.

+Manuel Villalobos I knew about the bushing but didn't have one to replace it with. I think I pointed that out in my starter replacement video. I think it's a common piece to break.

I have the same model polaris as you, and have tried almost everything you have to fix the same cutting out probem that you have. I would like to know if the pickup coil is the part that solved this problem.

I have not run it much but it has stumbled on me a few times. So I am guessing it did not fix it. If I can get it to cut out on me again I am going to isolate the switch and see if that could be doing it. There is a black wire under the seat that you unplug and the switch can not shut it off. So far I can't get it to cut completely off on me. If I find the problem before I sell it I will put up a video.

Nope, I had a heck of a time trying to get it off. Make sure the bolts are adjusted so you are pulling the flywheel straight off. If you are pulling it a little bit sideways it will never come off. Careful hitting the flywheel with a hammer. I am sure that is an expensive piece. Dad adjusted the bolts and popped it off with a half inch impact. No hammer, heat or blaster.

I have a scramble 500 and I have something rattling inside that cover but looking at this vid there isn't much in there to rattle? Any help would be great Ps I rev it up and everything is fine and I don't hear much of it Seems only to be at idle . Jelly bean noise ?

Not sure what it could be. I would remove the cover off and take a look.

Mossman, have you checked the cam condition? This year known for bad cam lobe. 4 valve motor with 3 rocker arms. (center lobe operates both exhaust valves). Lobe flattens out due to bad cam material. Good luck.

I have heard of that that. This turned out to be the ignition switch. It was shorting out inside causing the machine to just die or cut out randomly. I disconnected the ignition switch and the cutting out stopped. I had to sell this machine shortly after that.

So what is the stalling problem caused by. I watched several of your videos. But I have not found an answer. My 2005 goes down hill and on level surfaces basically with no problem but the slightest up hill will cause it to slow and stall. Did you ever resolve the problem.. Yamaha is looking a heck of a lot better than Polaris.

John Scaliatine It was the switch. The last video in the playlist for this Ranger explains it. All brands have problems. Polaris has the best utv's. Even the older ones are way better than most other brands.

Check the volts on your battery. It should be around 12v. Start your ranger and rev it up some. You should see the voltage increase. My book says 13-14.6 volts. Book also says not to disconnect the positive cable while the engine is running. Hope this helps.

Just as a suggestion, a friend of mine had cut out problems and it turned out that the mechanics at the Polaris Shope placed the fuel filter in upside down position. You might check that on yours.

+Manuel Villalobos The problem with this Ranger was the ignition switch. The fuel filter was one of the first things I replaced. I have since sold this Ranger and have a 03 6x6.

popacapnyoass3 I don't think there was a gasket. It's been a long time since I did it but I would have put a gasket on it if there was one.

hey, I have a 2013 polaris 500 sportsman. I try and start the engine and all I get is a ticking noise coming from the engine area. I really don't know much about my machine but any help or thought would be greatly appreciated.

Mine runs great until the cut out problem happens too. Really too busy right now to mess with it. I have been running it some but it still won't cut out on me so I can isolate the switch. I really don't like giving my number to people I don't know. No offense to you. If you subscribe to me you should be able to message me.

Have you tested the Pulser Coil? (sometimes called Crank Trigger or Pickup Coil)
@timgile8144
@timgile8144 7 жыл бұрын
Puler Coil clearance Crankshaft Position Sensor Air Gap: 0.4 - 1.2 mm (0.015 - .047 in.) Crankshaft Position Sensor Resistance: 185 ± 20% @ (20° C , 68° F) CPS Interrupt = In. / mm. CPS Air Gap: 0.4 - 1.2 mm (0.015 - .047 in.) = T CPS Retaining Screws: 26-34 in. lbs. (2.9-3.92 Nm) 0.4 - 1.2 mm (0.015 - .047 in.) Have you tested the plug wire? I found this , but not sure if your system uses this . I dont have a 2013 shop manual EFI - Instead of generating DC voltage via flywheel magnetic induction, a 12 Vdc current is supplied from the Ignition/Fuel Pump Relay to the Ignition coil. At the ECU, a small A/C signal from the CPS helps the ECU pre-determine Top Dead Center (TDC), which in turn signals the ECU to release the electrical charge collapsing the coil field for ignition (based on the ECU timing map).

Thanks for the info on the pick up coil. I am so frustrated with my ranger, because it runs and drives great until it cuts-out! I really would like to keep the rig if someone can tell me what the hell is wrong with it! Mossman381 Iwould like to talk to you on your phone about our common problem if I could. Please e-mail me your phone # and I'll give you a call.

The Polaris Ranger is NOT a piece of shit because you can't figure out the problem. You just don't have the knowledge to fix it. Have you looked at the belt and clutch? Have you done a compression check to see if the motor is healthy? You should have done basic things like air filter, spark plug, CDI, fuel filter when you first started having the problem. These are great machines. The older ones are NOT made for speed. They are made for work. I suggest you sell this one and get a newer one if you are looking for speed. Shouldn't have any trouble selling it because they are great machines.

The Polaris 500 engine is an amazing engine. If you don't run it out of oil and change it once in a while it will run forever. You will have to replace small parts as they get old and wear out. That is part of owning every mechanical machine.

The problem was the ignition switch. It was a very simple problem but very hard to diagnose. The switch was shorting out whenever it wanted. Then would work again. These Rangers are very reliable. I get them when they have problems and people sell them. Once you fix the simple problems they are great machines. I have had a few of these and now know what parts usually go bad and they are fixed easily. I currently have a 2004 6x6. Love it and a 900 Ranger as well. Also a great machine.

All you had to do was ask. It was the ignition switch that was bad. This didn't fix the problem. I had to wait and see if the fix worked or not.
