looking at Tonys Jetta once again, 2002 vw jetta with a vr6 2.8 liter engine, now chasing this p0340 cam position sensor malfunction, this video will show you how to check cam sensor and crank sensor signals, compare known good cmp/ckp waveforms, and simply how to check timing on a 12 valve vr6, hope you enjoy and thanks for watching.

I hope you guys changed that belt sheesh, Lol...No tool hell you could've borrowed mine as I'm driving a PITA 1.8t that has this code to hell and back and I can't get rid of it, yet. Timing chains on a VR6 if only life was that simple, a few beers on a Saturday afternoon, job done.

what the hell is the sound coming from on the right of the engine, is that the timming chain. and is that normal mine make the same sound

Sure hope that's not what's wrong with mine throwing the same code. It's only got 70k miles though.

We already set the cam chain 3 times! And verified the belt multiple times! And replaced the position sensor. And STILL the damned PO340 error code! By the way, the car runs great 😮🤭😐😐

I would get a cam crank waveform and compare to a known good. Sometimes the instructions are not clear and the pictures don’t help when it tells you to count the links when setting the chain

I unplugged the sensor while the engine was running and the engine kept working without a problem, no change when I plugged it out or put it back in… I’m pretty sure that’s a bad sensor right there

Is this the same jetta that had injector faults?If so, I called those timing chains in that video a while back..lol..

I don't understand why it would set a sensor fault Code and not a cam crank correlation code??????? That does not make sense, am I missing something?

The camshaft is slightly out of range. Not enough to cause a cmp/ckp correlation. But enough to cause a cam malfunction fault.

Positive Lead Diagnostics But still, it sets a sensor fault Code when the sensor is clearly functional just seems like weird programming to me........
