It looks like you left the old small black o-ring down in the hole. Your new regulator had one installed on the end already. If you didn’t remove the old one you now have two o-rings stacked one on top of the other. This will not make a good seal and may be why your regulator was bouncing a bit when you tried pushing it down. When I did mine today, I removed the old o-ring in the hole with a plastic pick. The regulator pushed all the way down and stayed. I was able to install the snap ring at that point with one hand. Just wanted to let you know.

In North Carolina, the dedicated detectives who investigate these vicious break-downs are members of an elite squad known as the " ita run!" Unit. These are their stories" DUHH DUHH Gotta LeSabre and it would not run with the Mass-Air-Flow sensor plugged in, it would just die. It had a surging idle, would run good for the most part, then it would bog down and overheat....so, I didn't have another thermostat so I took that one off- tightened it up and it had power back and the engine was not overheating anymore. Drove it 2400 miles to where I needed to go, got there, and went to a PULL-A-PART and got an assortment of parts/fuses...maf/mas/tps/fpr....you name it ... changed the fpr and it quit the Surging IDLE!! FOR 1 MILE DOWN THE ROAD!!! DAMN!! I thought my troubles were over, nope, so I keep going and pulled the maf plug while the engine was running and noticed a lot of grime and nasty ahit..I start to clean it so I dig deep, pull the whole thing out and there was a lot more I saw right before the vacuum hose where it was on sucked it up, when it did, there was a whole cloud behind me at the muffler/exhaust. When it cleared up I drive it and now it overheats again , so I watch some KZfaq/Google on this problem and ended up changing the whole plastic plenum and gasket(s). Found out the upper plastic egr valve had burnt and fried to a crisp..but it's cool though , I've learned a lot by working on this ...car...um...-(expensive- experiment). But knowledge is priceless. Hi, what is the name of the skinny plastic hose that connects to the pressure regulator that runs to the other hose that has black on it, they are connected together with the connector that is black, the black connection has 2 skinny hoses that comes out of it, and 1 of them runs to the fuel pressure regulator, what is the name of that hosing? because my hose right there has a hole in it and is causing a vacuum leak.

My Bonneville does the exact same thing. And I also have a bad fuel pressure regulator. Too bad you couldn't save it in time but I'm willing to bet that fuel was from the vacuum hose that connects to the fpr and leaked on top of the engine. That's what mine is doing.
@richp50014 жыл бұрын
great video but i have a question, did you have to do depressurize the fuel system.
@kingquadrules21154 жыл бұрын
I just dont remember if it had lost all its pressure, but there under that black cap is a schrader valve, it will ease the pressure,
@ratagris214 жыл бұрын
Yes, you have to relieve the fuel line pressure. To do so remove the fuel pump relay to stop the fuel from working. Crank the engine to start it up. It may or may not run. Turn it over 2-3 times.once done. The proceed in removing the vaccuum line on top then the clamp ring and FPR.
@johnwagner45593 жыл бұрын
@@kingquadrules2115 Just press in the valve and release the fuel? Then begin to take fpr out?
@xPreatorianx13 жыл бұрын
@@ratagris21 Old post but commenting for others, just use the schrader valve connected to it. (It's the black cap. Remove that and there's the schrader valve.) Either use a fuel gauge to release the pressure (As they usually have a "discharge" line with them to route any fluids.) Or, put down some rags, take an old key, pen, or even a screw driver and press the pin on the schrader valve gently. Use your tire valve stem to get the hang of the pressure. (Your tire valve stems use the same type of valve.) Your ignition or house key will do. (I've done it with the ignition key several times. It's an easy way to equalize pressure on the tires too. When tire shops set the pressure on the replacement tires to factory but you have the ones not replaced set higher.) There's absolutely no need to remove a relay when the regulator literally has a service valve. Don't over complicate things. If something has a valve attached for service, use the valve. Don't go to another part of the system and mess with things. As the general rule is - K.I.S.S ( Keep It Simple Stupid.) Another apt saying is, "What can go wrong, will go wrong." So don't screw with other parts of the car. Always keep your repairs contained as much as possible. Otherwise, due to age, bad luck, lack of praying to a cosmic deity, or pissing off the universe, you are bound to turn a $100 fix, into a $300 or $500 fix. Because you decided to mess with other stuff. But hey, that's just my experience. EVERY time I work on my car, and fix one thing, 3 other things break in the fucking process. So I've learned, NEVER EVER touch anything but the actual issue you are working on. Unless you absolutely have to. Don't remove other shit just to make your life easier for that repair.(Clearance issues.) As you'll end up costing yourself money.

Some do it for prevention reasons. He mentioned at the beggining of video that it was leaking. Fuel pressure regulators on 3.8 series 2 engines, are known for leaking fuel sometimes. Drops of gasoline can easily reach hot places, like exhaust pipes. And cause major trouble, that risk is avoided changing it.
@andrewschweickert8334 Жыл бұрын
Mine leaked into the vacuum lines choking off the engine and causing stalling a mile away from my workplace. Barely made it home as I had to keep my foot on the gas the entire time. I did just clean the maf sensor, and it's fully plausible that that can be bad as well but my fuel pressure regulator is leaking bad. I know it's 4 years late but hopefully answers your question
