Hey man, great videos! Both part 1 and 2 are extremely helpful. Thank you for taking the time to make a video of this job! I have a couple of helpful hints to add for anyone doing this job. When taking out the defrost vent in the middle of the dash, I did use a screw driver with some tape on it but, I put a bondo spreader under the screw driver. Then pried up on the vent. It helped to distribute the pressure of the screw driver a lot better and protects the dash. Also, all the nuts and bolts you point out behind the glove box, I didn't take out and it made no difference. It comes out no problem and you have plenty of room to get the heater core out. Thanks again man, I really appreciate your videos! They made this job so much easier!

I'm getting ready to tackle this job in my 03 s10 ls. Thanks for the video, very helpful. Has anybody shot the engineers for designing this?

Austin- I'm not a mechanic but I watched your video (four times!) and took my time, completing the job after three sessions, following your example of labeling each bolt and part. I OWE YOU A TON FOR YOUR GREAT VIDEO- THANK YOU & HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Well, i am testing your tutorial. Damm heater core. Video looks quite detailed, lets hope its as complete as it looks. You make it look like a simple job, just takes time.
@byron25215 жыл бұрын
Geeeeez! I changed a heater core in a Chevy Cavalier once (1996). Easy! It had one panel next to the floor. You remove that panel and there was the core. I knew other cores were hard to get to but I didn't think they would be this hard. Would it be easier to just cut a hole in the firewall?....lol.

I started at 9am and had the dash disassembled by 11a but the next 4 hours I kept trying to figure out why the heater box didnt separate from the firewall. The 2nd screw on the engine side I didnt remove because I didnt think it was part of the heater box assembly. The one under the blower motor resistor I removed and the one next to the heater core ports I did.

I've seen video for the GMC Sonoma.Its was removing 5 bolts over a plate under glove box. And the heater it right there to be pulled out.Why all the extra work? Curious,getting ready to do mine. Thanks, Harold!!!
@spechtaustin12 жыл бұрын
Well, it may be similar. Not sure what to tell ya really, In my experience when you don't know exactly what you're doing just take your time, take notes, and if something doesn't come apart easily don't force it because you probably missed a nut or bolt. I guess hike up that skirt and good luck! I

for a 1994 you dont have to get that bolt in the evap housing, you dont even need to take off the kick panels. i took them out anyway to have lots of room. theres only 3 bolts in the bottom that hold the bottom part of the dash and the 4 above in the speaker and defrost vent area and it comes out. i took off the speedometer console thing to avoid breaking it. of course to get to that you neet to take off some superficial panels... a 1994 s10 p/u is much easier, but great video man! thanks

at 4:20 you only need to remove that bottom bolt (currently doing this on a 2000 gmc Jimmy)

I ended up pulling it completely. Not a bad job just a lot of 7 mm screws.

I bypassed my heater core and installed a 12 volt heater that I wired to the battery. This is absolutly ridiculous to have to disassemble the whole truck to get to the heater core.

I’m working on doing this right now, and I really, REALLY don’t want to. I’d set it on fire, but it’s already set itself on fire before. Intake fires crisped up my spider injector lines. Luckily I don’t have to unhook the lines going to my heater sore because the heater core busted, lost all coolant, and bypassed the heater core.

Got a question for you. First, great video, very useful. I removed my dash completely (02 Sonoma) and took off 3 nuts from the firewall (engine side) as you mentioned, and the nut on the lower right of the heater box on the inside of the vehicle but it won't tip. It almost does but seems that there's something hung up. I noticed when you went and took out the last nut from the inside (bottom right), there are, what looks to be, the back of two studs about 2" to either side of the final nut that you removed. Are there nuts on the other side of those? I'm having trouble finding them but that seems to be where it's hanging up. Thanks.

In addition to the three on the engine side of the firewall, there is one 10mm bolt under a flap of carpet in the passenger side foot well.

Hey bro, thanks for doing this! About to tackle the job but read somewhere about potentially having to discharge the a/c. I don't recall you mentioning that. Is it necessary? Thanks!

You don't have to discharge the a/c if you do the job exactly like the video.

Not to be a smartass, but every time you need to unplug any electrical harness components, it's good practice to disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. Other than that great vid.
@spechtaustin5 жыл бұрын
I agree especially a computer module but I have had this truck for almost 13yrs now and still no issues from unplugging things.
@spechtaustin5 жыл бұрын
I have even welded on exhaust and other parts without disconnecting the battery. Keeping the ground cable close by is the key.
@macklen25 жыл бұрын
I had to remove the dash because of a loose clutch pedal and I was missing a few screws under the speaker covers and by the dashboard vent port, which I found out about in your vid. BTW, I honestly cannot think of a reason why GM would use a crappy plastic axis for the clutch pedal to pivot on, since the clutch is THE one pedal that gets mashed constantly, and besides the brake pedal does have a metal bolt to hold it in place. Any ideas, besides fucking with the owner, as to why they would do that?
@chris2pher442 жыл бұрын
My god everything is a pain in the ass to replace in this truck. Wish I just replaced my old ranger with a new one instead of buying this crap.
