Tony The Truck Guy what about in terms of reliability? Just looked up more about wjs and I see a lot of people saying that the transmissions aren’t as reliable with 4.0 wjs as they are with xjs. Also, was yours awd?
@TonyTheTruckGuy
@TonyTheTruckGuy 6 жыл бұрын
As long as you maintain the engine and trans of the 4.7, it’s fine. They are notorious for overheating and people don’t pay attention so the head gaskets fail. Or they don’t change oil regularly. As long as you do normal maintenance, you’re fine. I actually got better mpg in my 4.7 with 5” lift and 32’s than my buddy with 4” lift and 31’s in a 4.0. Mine was the quadra drive system, only available on the 4.7 limited models. It’s all time awd with low range as well. It has limited slip transfer case as well as front and real limited slip differentials, which also should get the oil changed in them.

It’s hard to say and it really depends on your preference. The WJ flexes better and is a smoother ride with more luxury. The XJ is a cheaper build and has more ground clearance naturally. It also depends how extreme you want to go. If money were no object, I’d probably do a ZJ or a WJ with 1 tin axles and 40’s. But they do make a rear 4 link kit for XJ’s so they can flex just as well.

@kasp3rito

my jeep is in a good condition without problems, but I would like to go on some mud or hills without stucking into it. I saw some kits on ebay to lift a jeep a bit for around 1000$. I might be able to install it myself, but I never done it before. Would "all terrain" tires help me to do some casual mud running on a stock jeep? Budget is a limit until it is not worth doing it.
@TonyTheTruckGuy
@TonyTheTruckGuy 7 жыл бұрын
If you go above 3" of lift, I recommend getting long arms. At the 4" or higher level with short arms, it makes the Jeep not ride as well and the handling characteristics go down. As far as a good all terrain tire, I highly recommend the Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs. They aren't horribly loud on the road like mud terrains but they're better in mud than any other all terrain I've seen and good in snow and dirt as well.

I’d double check with whatever brand you end up going with, but I’d guess it would be the same kit, they would just not wire in the wires for locks. The Viper has a sensitivity box that could be adjusted. If someone kicked my tire, it would give a warning chirp, second time 2 chirps and 3rd time the alarm went off. I just don’t know if it would go off in the even of someone using like a slim Jim on your door since you have manual locks.

@TonyTheTruckGuy
@TonyTheTruckGuy 6 жыл бұрын
I just felt bad beating on such a “nice” vehicle and the Cherokee had more ground clearance from the factory. The quadra drive was a great choice for stock and is affective up to a 31 or 33” tire, then it looses its clamping power. Still not as good as fully locked though for off roading. It is awesome for on road though.

@TonyTheTruckGuy

I actually modified mine quite a bit because I had the Warn front receiver which used those same mounts so I bolted the receiver into place then welded my grille guard mounts to that. Hey Tony I just bought myself the same Wj awd 4.7 and I looked at the Rough County 4 inch lift but in the description they specify not for the AWD. Have you had any issues or needed to replace any other parts due to the lift? Thanks
@TonyTheTruckGuy
@TonyTheTruckGuy 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah mine said the same thing, not sure why it says that, pretty lame to lift a 2wd lol. Didn’t have to make any changes for the awd Jeep. Only thing to keep an eye on is the metal shock sleeves seem to be a bit long, so the bushing doesn’t get much of a squeeze. So there’s minor little clunks between that and their track bar. The track bar I felt with, and the shock sleeves I just took to a bench grinder to shave them down a tad then never had any issues. Thing rode awesome. They may have revised the kit though since this was about 5 years ago.
@simplythesimplest1
@simplythesimplest1 5 жыл бұрын
They say this because of what driveshaft you have on your WJ. If it has a double cardan joint on the front end you are fine. However if you have the ball in socket CV type you will experience driveline vibration. So just look under the Jeep and see what type you have. Some have the CV style and some do not. It is a simple matter of what one was available when the Jeep was being built.

How hard was it to install that winch onto the front bull/brush guard?
@TonyTheTruckGuy
@TonyTheTruckGuy 5 жыл бұрын
The winch was easy since it was mounted to a receiver that went right into my warn front receiver hitch. The tricky part was getting the brush guard to work WITH the warn receiver. Since they both use the same factory mounts, I had to mount the receiver, then cut and welded the brush guard mounts to the receiver.

Did you have to grind off some of the caliper for the rims to fit?
@TonyTheTruckGuy
@TonyTheTruckGuy 7 жыл бұрын
With this exact configuration, no, but they were super close, like 1/16"-1/8" from touching calipers. These are the 8" wide with -13mm offset and 4" backspacing. My buddy got the same wheels only with +13mm offset and 5" backspacing (so his wheels stuck out 1" less than mine) and he DID have to grind calipers. So you either need a 16" wheel or run a more aggressive wheel like I did to avoid grinding.

Yeah the rod snapped from getting hydro locked. And yeah the tire's rubbed the bumper which is why I trimmed. This lift is supposed to only support a 31" tire.

Hey, can you tell me how the hubcaps are mounted? I ordered Steelies but i cant find hubcaps for mine. The bore in the rim is exactly 72mm. Thank you! Nice Jeep!
@TonyTheTruckGuy
@TonyTheTruckGuy 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Tim, thanks! The hub caps just push through the back side of the wheel before you install the wheel, so the wheel itself holds them on. Just search Summit Racing or something for the proper diameter and you should be good.

I am looking for a lift kit for my 2004 WJ and see that you basically already did exactly what I plan on doing with it. Just out of curiosity, what happened with your front drive shaft? Was it caused by the kit itself? And, after it blew up, what did you replace it with?
@TonyTheTruckGuy
@TonyTheTruckGuy 7 жыл бұрын
No, the drive shaft didn't fail due to the lift, it was just from normal wear. It had a squeak to it for a while so I suspect it just dried out (non-greasable). I replaced it with another stock unit from the junk yard. You will have a SLIGHT vibration around 50 mph with the lift but it's nothing major. You can generally adjust the arms to get the angle of the axle corrected but if you tilt the axle too much one way or the other then the steering wheel may not return to center by itself after corner due to insufficient caster so I chose to just deal with the slight vibration.

I mean, I got stuck plenty of times, but that’s going to happen no matter what. As far as functionality, it’s seemed to always work as intended. It could have been slightly better, but I did have over sized tires. It was a good awd system. That and Quadra drive 2 are my favorites.

Tony The Truck Guy oh my, i would need a visual on that. Sounds difficult
@TonyTheTruckGuy
@TonyTheTruckGuy 6 жыл бұрын
If you know how to weld, it’s easy. Just bolt up the receiver then have someone hold the grille guard up while you hold the mounting brackets in place. That will give you an idea on how much of the bracket to cut and where to weld. Otherwise I’m sure there’s shops that would do it for not too much coin.

Tony The Truck Guy biggest problem with XJ was none in any year combo I had could keep front end aligned or components u joints were cheap as shit resulting in broken axle shafts hydraulic clutch systems were garbage leaving you to shift with no clutch whatsoever I live in an area only accessible by dirt road miles of it in the Colorado mountains trust me the off road guys who just take there rides out to play have no idea the strain of commuting on everyday roads such as that it truly puts the ruggedness and durability into perspective of how fragile they truly are I mean I like them but it's not reliable enough for the area we living in to use everyday
