Same here man. Heck I still remember when we were in cusa and it was a respectable g5 conference. I miss the days where southern miss played these big schools amd you never knew what could happen, we could come out and "surprise" them and leave with the W. I still remember riding home from a gig my dad did in his band and we played Alabama I think it was 2000 or 2001 and we ended up beating them and my dad waking me up from hollering and celebrating tbh. Man those were the good ol days. Back when we had the legit Nasty Bunch, Derrick Nix, etc. man those were the days.

I’ve been rewatching games from the Bill Callahan era and I somehow find our offense enjoyable to watch now. At the time, my impression was that we were literally a 3 yards and a cloud of dust team with no explosion. The wrinkles, designs, and concepts of the Callahan era offense was actually quite impressive. But he should’ve dumbed down the offense a little bit, it seemed too sophisticated for college kids during that time. Joe Dailey clearly was struggling processing and retaining all the plays and concepts. If we just had some 4 & 5 star position players and a defense that figured out how to stop the new trend of spread offenses of the Big 12 at the time, there’s no doubt we would’ve competed with the big dogs. Also, as far as this game, Southern Miss was no joke at the time. They had almost won in Lincoln in 1999.

They had the talent, it was development of players. Callahan had recruiting figured out, but just didn't develop. The 07 season against good teams showed Callahan's offense wasn't gonna work. 6 against Missouri, 14 twice to Oklahoma State, Texas A&M. Had garbage points vs Kansas, USC, Colorado. Best was vs Kansas State but they weren't good.

4:55 "1st Nebraska QB with 200 yds passing since 1999" jfc, that’s how u know Nebraska was good at running, they didn’t even need the qb for anything but a few PA passes and to hand the ball off lol. Maybe they need to go back to thats style offense tbh.
