I remember my middle school principal had one of these. Since I went to a private school with only about 15 kids altogether, when we had field trips we'd all pile into the SUVs of the teachers and principals (bc our school didn't have buses) and some of the best childhood memories I had were with my friends in the backseat of the principals mountaineer. This car is amazing. My grandmom got a black one and the timing belts rusty and parts are missing on the engine, and the catlayic conveters rusted out, but it sounds freaking AWESOME when it starts.

I really like the keyless entry. I have that on my 2004 mercury and it is nice to have if you need to get in your car and the keys are all the way in the house. Ive used it lots of times. lol

@DeMitch It's a great truck. Overall, I love it. Did have a problem with the sunroof leaking but it was fixed. The V6 is a great engine except for fuel economy. I only get around 13-15 city and 18-20 highway. Not that great for a V6, but the engine itself is awesome...sounds really deep and moves the 4000+lb SUV pretty well. It currently has 35K miles and have had no major problems with it.

Too bad they stopped making Murcury cars. :(

i have the V6 in my 07. More power then you would think. Good torque and decent top end. Still only get around 14 MPG

I have the same truck :-) I get 17MPG It's intact very nice and well taken care of only 75000+ miles not bad for being an 04 when its 2012 now

I almost started to by one like this one but got a good deal on a 2006 with a V8. Ever since they remodeled the mountaineer, it looks way better than the first generation.

those 4.0 SOHC had horrible timing chain setup. Nearly all high mileage ones, the guides break.
