2005 T1N Dodge Sprinter Rumble Strip Noise Fix and Transmission Service - Rambling with Phil

We recently decided to address the common "rumble strip noise" issue that pretty much every T1N Sprinter has. If you've ever started accelerating and then heard/felt what seemed to be like driving over a rumble strip, this is how you go about "doing away" with that noise.
This method was developed by the famous "Doktor A" and is just one extra thing to do if you are already servicing your transmission. So in this video we also change the transmission fluid and filter.

The new plug you put on the drain pan is a torque converter drain plug. That's why it's so small. You should replace it with the correct plug...more surface area to prevent it from leaking.

Hi. You have really good videos. I have a sprinter semi auto and it keeps on dropping into manual. I want to fix it myself and so wanted to know if you know what the problem could be. I would really appreciate the insight. Thanks

How is the fix working so far? How many miles have you put on your T1N since the fix?

@@RamblingWithPhil i did and works perfect but seems like the rpm goes up alitle bit and increase the millage per galon do you have the same

I haven't really noticed but I haven't driven the van very far since I've done the work. Only a few hundred miles on the interstate.

So a fluid change solves this?

Drilling the hole in the valve body plate is what solves the rumble strip noise but you have to drain the fluid to remove and reinstall the plate. Thanks for watching and for your comment!

@@RamblingWithPhil Being big and slow, I have asholes who feel im going to slow and swerve, pretending to hit me as they pass., So anyway, I often need to slam on my brakes to avoid them from getting too close. As a result of this I noticed my transmission started jerking, but then after several miles of normal NON interrupted driving, the transmission seems to go back to normal. Im hoping to do a fluid change as soon as I can afford it.

I'm not sure if the fluid change will fix the transmission jerking but I'm not a mechanic. If it stops after it gets warmed up, it does sound like it might be a fluid or filter issue. I was able to find the Shell transmission fluid at a much cheaper price on Amazon but the prices do vary so you have to keep searching and compare all the seller's costs. I also found the filter on Amazon for cheaper than anywhere else. Good luck and thanks for watching!

Im on the road just had this rumble strip noise and some oil dripping from under tranny. Looks like oil not ATF. The noise is insane and the fix is even more so. Blown away that Mercedes hasnt fixed this problem. Hope i dont break down. Im 1500 miles out in the desert.

RamblingwithPhil, I'm checking in to see how the fix you Proformed for the rumble strip noise is going a solid year later? Have you noticed any other shift concerns under load from there on out? Thanks, Shawn

I haven't noticed anything under load. I've pulled a smaller trailer a few times and it's been fine. Thanks for asking though!

@@RamblingWithPhil thanks for getting back. My problem was the AC compressor clutch. It dumped oil down tranny and was making some low vibration frequency and other noise lol.
