Must say this is some articulated tutorial. So now I have a question about that harness plug. My 02 EXPLORER wasn't reversing but now does after repairs: problem's he did his job halfway and now I'm struggling to fix the it.. Question,Is there only one side fitting into the solenoid socket or either way U key it in, it works. Coz after keying it in the dash reads ... CHECK TRANSMISSION plus the O/D light blinks . what could be the problem?

Thanks for posting this. My 2008 Mountaineer had the same issue, and I fixed it by following your example. Shifts great on the first test drive, and trans sounds much smoother. Has 148k on it, and may have been original fluid. Has the ford gasket. I also had to wire in a new pigtail, it had one pin rotted off, and it was a pain in the ass. I pinned it out on the bench and made a little diagram to match the colors up. Be careful of orientation when doing this, It is easy to forget which side of connector you are looking at! Especially while you are fighting to get access to it with that front driveshaft right in your face. I left the pan off to do it too, and had a little more room. Thanks again! I saved a fortune by doing this myself.

Great production. Some very good advice. I'm not looking forward to having to do this job in the future. Trans is acting up a bit, but not shooting any codes. I don't know if it's trans related or a traction control issue. When I had to fill my transmission with fluid in the past, I made an IV type system. I had a quart of fluid raised above the trans, and fluid traveled through some plastic tubing to the fill plug - worked like a charm. Thanks for the profession explanation.

I have a quick question. I recently replaced the solenoid pack on my 2008 explorer due to the error code and it would not shift past 1st gear. After switching it out and resetting the TCM, it drove fine for 4 days before the wrench light and engine light came back on. Same error codes for solenoids. Has new transmission fluid and when i pulled the pan to replace the solenoid pack there was no sign of metal shavings or corrosion. What else could it possibly be? Is my TCM just bad? Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah, If you are replacing the solenoid pack I would (keep your foot on brake, don't move) and slowly shift the truck through all of the gears to allow the transmission fluid to circulate through everything. Replace the transmission filter while you are in there. It is pretty easy to do.

Hello. I have a 2004 Ford Explorer. I changed the transmission oil. but it is leaking oil. It becomes unusable after 1 week. but it does not leak into the ground. I think it got mixed into the engine oil. because white smoke comes out of the engine and the engine stops occasionally. There seems to be a red tint to the engine oil. I think it is a vacuum modulator. Do you think this could happen?
@HomeOwnerRepair

White tailpipe smoke usually means coolant is getting into the motor it might be a bad head gasket. You may want to have a reputable local mechanic take a look at it to see what might be going on with it. Hope this helps you out.

Always make sure those are brand-new O-rings and lubricated like this gentleman did here and make sure that you change the 2Rings onto the plug on the top and I'll explain why real quick the AC unit drops water right on that spot and it forever goes into the top of that plug and I've pulled out several of them that actually have the solenoid rusted the first thing it'll cause to go bad as the reverse solenoid and it'll jump in reverse because he's got rusted it doesn't want to move so everytime it stops to look kind of rough clothes and then when it feels it has enough voltage little jolt open

Sir, when I put my 2008 Ford Explorer in Reverse and D, the vehicle does not move, but the RPM increases. However, when the gear lever is shifted to 3, the vehicle moves, indicating that it is capable of driving. Is it enough to change the solenoid pack to address the problem? I went to many local repair shops and described the situation, but they all told I needed to overhual the gearbox. What are your recommendations? Should I get a solenoid replaced and tested, or should I get a gearbox overhaul?

I have a 2007 Explorer XLT 4WD SOHC V6 with 118K miles. The transmission started shifting hard a few months ago and then I had problems going into R or D when cold. Also OD was acting up as well as the shuddering issue. No codes. Anyway, I took it to a reputable local transmission shop that diagnosed it and it ended up needing a rebuild (torque converter, valve body, pressure relief valve, OD sprag, rear band). It was a VERY expensive repair. I only went ahead with it because the interior/exterior are in outstanding condition and the engine runs well so far, and when I checked the cost of a suitable replacement vehicle I almost had a heart attack! I am hoping to get another 4 years out of it (without another major failure). From your knowledge of this vehicle, do you think I'm going to regret my decision?
