"In a place like this why would you want to do anything but cruise?" I've never heard Australian and New Zealand motoring defined so perfectly. Sure the Falcon and Commodore could get up and boogie if they needed to, but wafting down country lanes and coastal roads with comfort and reliability was what made our local machines so great

The falcon and the commodore is the manifestation of the Australian spirit. You know that Simpsons episode when the farmer brings Bart's mischief to the Prime Ministers attention? That nonchalant attitude the fella had towards the most powerful man in the country? We like to romanticize Australia as a society in which a certain brotherhod/kinship permeates through barriers of class, age, etc. I like to think that the falcon is the embodiment of that. The poor student drives the old hand me downs, the astute family man drives one, the coppers drive one, the hooners drive one, your grandma drives one, the Indian taxi driver owns one and even the Prime MINISTA drives one. Perhaps the idea of egalitarianism which is romancitized in movies like the Castle or in Australia day speeches does exist. We just need to turn to the now dead line of falcon and commodore vehicles.

1) '64 Mustang was a Falcon with new body panels and interior 2) All the cop cars in Mad Max were Falcons: Max's 4-door interceptor was a '74 XB, the black '73 V8 XB GT coupe. The other cops (March Hare, Big Bopper?) drove '72 Falcon XAs. All had skinny tires for extra squeals... They all must have been 6-bangers, since they told Max his new coupe was "the last of the V8s"

Basically, the way our ears work, as something gets quieter you hear less bass and more mids. So that button is for bass boost at low volumes (or all volumes, let's be honest). Most stereos have a button or eq setting for this purpose, just not quite such a prominent one.

I've had a BF Falcon for over 5 years now and it has never missed a beat, it's just the base model with a few upgrades but I still love it even though I've got a new daily now. To someone that doesn't know much about them it's hard to describe, but my Dad's had Falcons pretty much my whole life so it just felt right when I eventually purchased an AU Falcon (same chassis, different engine and body panels) then eventually upgraded to the BF. Right now it's sitting in the yard, waiting for me to decide what I'm doing with it, I know if I sell it I will one day regret it, but I can't give it the love it deserves right now and I feel bad for neglecting it.

I've still got my BF 10 years with only maintenance. of course, i opted for the lazy V8 and no rear seats (ute, ftw)
@jarrynsmith
@jarrynsmith 6 жыл бұрын
Evil Ash lazy V8 do you mean 3v? (That what i thought) The fgx is a twin identically with jaguar(ford owns jag for close to 30 years or more) and you have a ute should do a front end swap and have one clean beast.

i've owned a 07' XR6 for 2 years and drove it from 120kkm to 160kkm. you can beat the living shit out of that thing and it still goes. it's also a popular car of choice by many taxi companies because the engine is know to go 1 million km before bust.

Commodore - your old mate, that is always there for you. Falcon - Your wing man that's always got your back. I really hope you get to review a Holden Adventura (the SX6 & LX8 variants) someday or skip to the HSV Avalanche (wagon or ute) monsters! truly find them to be one of those really odd cars once you peel back a couple layers.

The Adventra is an amazing car - I own a CX6 and it's fantastic. Any of them are great, but the LX6 and LX8s are the peak. They've got the power, the traction, and the luxury. They corner like they're on rails, and event he V6 goes pretty hard with some minor tweaks. They'll also go nearly anywhere.

This 2006 Falcon reminds me a lot of the 2006 Fusions. The shape is similar and those rims look exactly the same. But you know, I'd much rather have the Falcon.

Kijiji King same designer. Well same OG concept. Ford Evo?? I think. Right around 06 when the whole global market thing started. Ford needed an egressive design suited for the entire world not just Europe/USA/aus.

Even though RCR is quite literally about Regular Cars, I was hoping for at least one bonkers performance variant, a HSV/FPV model, to at least share the goodness we get here in Aus with the rest of the world.

I own a ford falcon BF Station wagon. Keeping her looked after in servicing is keeping running good and quiet. She leaves the other cars for dead at traffic lights. Seating is comfortable. It has no antenna which is a plus for car washes that is automated makes it easier to clean. Apart from that she is a great car. Also she has a solid frame and bodywork. The only change I have noticed is the headlight switch is on the steering wheel where as the falcons in the past had a turn switch. This one is fourth of the falcons in the past. First one was the EA, the second was EF, the third was the AU MK 1. Apart from all four of them the best ones I loved was the EF and BF.

You touched on the performance models. From FPV, Ford Performance Vehicles. In Australia. When the FPV Typhoon Turbo was released, it was the fastest sedan in the world, about $70 odd grand Australian. The BMW M5 was second, at $250k Australian ......

@fredlachy 6 жыл бұрын
Im a Falcon guy too we but the FPV F6 Typhoon wasn't quickest in the world when it was released. The W211 AMG E55 had a supercharged 5.4L V8 and did 0 to 100 in 4.7s. The E39 M5 did the same sprint in 5.3s.

It's pretty good considering the car's 1700kg or 3750lb weight. I have an FG series (08-11 years) and on the highway I can average 8.5L/100km or 33MPG. Around town, you'll probably average closer to 12L/100km or 24MPG. It might have to do with the class-leading torque of the N/A engine, you're rarely over 2000RPM in driving.

Complaining about someone using units of measurement that don't mean much to you unless you convert them is the scientific equivalent of complaining that an ATM should just be in English automatically instead of making you pick a language at the start.

They nailed it with the final models, the FG & FG X. Even the base models were a blast to drive, let alone the turbos and V8 models. Can't believe how stupid trends have killed off these exceptionally enjoyable sedans, there's nothing else like them for the money. R.I.P. Falcon & Holden's Commodore.
