U should never manually push open the throttle plate. That could mess up the electronic calibration and bring up a whole new set of issues

Def not the correct way to clean an electronic throttle body never manually open the butterfly plate by hand turn the car to "on" (dont start the car) and press the gas pedal and put weight on it then you clean it

RIP his idle speed. Well at least he's a mechanic and can relearn the idle. Dont touch the valve just clean it with a rag and have someone put their foot down on the gas pedal when its on but not running

i want to change my coolant and i need to get that red or orange stuff called dex cool,,it comes in both 50/50 and concentrated form,,i prefer to buy the 1 jug of concentrate for my need plus it is two for the price of one after you dilute it yourself, the store guy however told me i can not use distilled water as it will freeze and i should use de-ionized water,,is he pulling my leg or uninformed?
@jimdandy6472
@jimdandy6472 3 жыл бұрын
The simple answer is use distilled water from the grocery store. I always buy the concentrate and mix at home 50/50 with distilled water to save a couple bucks. The 50/50 premix is convenient, but costs more. De-ionized water is the best option, but can be hard to find and just not worth the extra trouble. Tap water/City water/Well water has some minerals in it (e.g. calcium) and can form deposits inside the radiator and the cooling system passages of your engine, and should be avoided. Most City Water is not too hard and using it is not a big deal. I think people get overly concerned about it as how many minerals can be in a gallon of good tap water, and your engine only “sees” 4-6 gallons in its lifetime. It’s not like a washing machine that has hundreds of gallons going through it in its lifetime, but just use distilled water and you’ll be fine.

@@jimdandy6472 thank you very much because i had already bought 7 gals of distilled water and was planing on making at least 3 flushes and using the 7th gal to mix with the concentrate for the final fill up ,but the store clerk ruined my plan when he said that distilled water will freeze and i need de ionized instead,,after thinking about this and doing a bit of research i think the guy is bs me or missinformed,,water is water be it distilled or deionized i think it freezes the same ,so long as its mixed with 50 to 70% water it should be ok for my engine in cold climate,and everyone does it that way and hell i already paid enough for water lol,,,the hard part now is to be able to crack that petcock and hope the reservoir drains out that way too but its gonna be a long timed job

@@ARCSTREAMS The store clerk is misinformed! While it is true that DI water has less minerals than Distilled water it is a non-factor for this application. Distilled water is more than adequate. Water is water as far as freezing both Distilled and De-Ionized water freeze at 32F and boil at 212F, and would have no impact on the freezing point of the antifreeze mixture. Remember that all the "water" in the block will not drain out from the petcock. Most does, but not all. There are likely threaded plugs in the side of the block, but I would advise NOT to mess with those. My preference is to avoid using the petcock as they are easy to break and often plugged, thus I typically pull the lower radiator hose off the water pump or radiator. Yes, it can be a mess, but if you are careful it's not too bad. Flushing 3 times with distilled water and a final fill with a 70% antifreeze mixture will get you pretty close to 50/50 once the remaining distilled water in the block mixes in.

@@jimdandy6472 " While it is true that DI water has less minerals than Distilled water " actually i think(and from the search i done) distilled would have less but this is not the issue,problem is the freezing and the mineral content has no bearing on that or very little so idk what that guy was thinking saying deionized wont freeze like distilled because of this,,its not true ,ok cool so i will still use distilled 50/50 with coolant,,,, about the petcock i am also worried i might break it or it may not close back or open ,yes you are right about doing it from the lower hose but im not sure if this will be more difficult ,its already hard enough to get to the petcock for me ,ill have to see if i can have easier access to the lower hose when i jack the car up but either one will this also make my reservoir tank drain out too? i think it should as there is a hose under the tank which seems to connect to the lower rad hose and hopefully should drain too otherwise im in trouble as i wont be able to refill it ,only place i can refill is through that reservoir cap , not sure how you figure 70% will be close? are you saying there will be about 20% water left in the system?,,but the way im thinking is that on the final drain i will detract what i collected from the system capacity and that will tell me how much water is left in the system(ie heater core,core hoses,engine jacket,etc) i will then simply add the same missing amount in concentrated coolant then simply top off the remainder with 50/50,,i think that is more accurate,what do you think?
@jimdandy6472
@jimdandy6472 3 жыл бұрын
@@ARCSTREAMS I commend you on the amount of thought you are putting into this, but don't overthink it. At a typical shop if you said you wanted your coolant changed they would pull the lower radiator hose off, drain what they could and then refill with 50/50 mix. If you told a typical shop you wanted a flush they would take a couple extra steps to pull a heater hose and connect to city water "garden hose" for a flush, then blow out what city water they could, then fill with 50/50 mix. Your reservoir tank will drain as it is located at a high point and just connected with a hose to the coolant system. If you want to, you can flush it as well by spraying a garden hose in it while the lower radiator hose is removed.
