2008 Acura TSX - Episode 1: Assessing Our Project

We all have budgets, some tighter than others. We all want fun to drive cars (and if not, what are doing here?). With used car prices still fetching major coin for anything even enthusiast adjacent, what can we do? On this series I want to show that you can still score a cool car fit for daily duty on a budget. Our project will be this 2008 Acura TSX, which appears to be in pretty solid condition, but carries some high mileage and some small maintenance issues worth exploring. #acura #tsx #vtec

It’s a very compelling package. Great looks, solid handling, a fantastic engine, and an absolute gem of a gearbox.

Love these cars, I’m on my second one. Keep up with the oil changes and that engine will last 500k +miles.

Agreed. Basic maintenance is always the name of the game. The TSX is the perfect blend of enthusiast attributes, style, and reliability.

Very nice, looking forward to future episodes. FYI, it would be a good idea while you're in there to get valves adjusted, especially with the mileage. Valve adjustment on these often gets overlooked.

Thank you. I always check valve clearance, but no adjustments were necessary. Even used my new angled feeler gauge set. Looks like everything was adjusted somewhat recently. Eventually I’ll get a car that’s out of range and get to video the adjustment process.

my guess was 205'000 miles, ive seen a few of these run to the moon and back and still look as good (decent?) as your example, but i was NOT expecting that much, I audibly gasped lol Previous owner definitely cared about this car, and I'm glad it ended up in your hands. Curious though, how much longer do you think that engine has left on it? I know you cant really say, but you didnt seem bothered hardly at all by that mileage figure. Am I just paranoid?

Wait till you see how she looks now! Maintenance looks to be as well taken care of as cosmetics luckily for me. It’s hard to predict engine life as many factors bake into that equation…but routine maintenance is always a major component. The K Series motor is pretty stout…only time will tell, but I see her going past the 500k mile mark.
