No one who buys one cares about paddle shifters. It's a middle age and up cruiser. Nothing better on highway rides. Smooth as glass and seats second to none. Have one and will never sell it

Agreed that the paddle shifter demographic probably doesn’t intersect with the average SC430 owner group…nonetheless it would still up the sporty-ness. Out of all the Lexus vehicles I’ve owned, I’d say the ride is near the bottom of the smoothness scale. This is what initially kicked off my whole sport vs luxury car angle. Overall, I genuinely love the SC430 and think it’s a highly under celebrated and fantastic machine.

hey, have a 91 nx2000 2L. The rad fan is not working, dc motor runs when I jump it directly from the battery. There are three fuse boxes in the engine compartment, two have rad fan labels (rad fan 1, rad fan 2)but are empty in that slot, the one beside the battery has a label rad fan 3 and it has what looks like a relay, not a fuse. Is there an actual fuse, where would that fuse box be?
@autoobsessivegarage
@autoobsessivegarage 19 минут бұрын
I haven’t had time to get to the shop to look around the car but that relay sounds familiar. Did you try swapping it out to test as they can fail as well? Are you jumping the connector in the rad fan? I’d start with that relay…can’t remover if there is an actual fuse inside the vehicle or not.

Hi, great series of vids! I have a two door 88 Trooper that seems to be missing a part that appears in your video. Looking at your engine, just to the right of the valve cover is a rusty "pipe" running the length of the valve cover. Closer to the front of the vehicle it is connected to a hose...do you have any idea what purpose this part serves and what it is called? Thank you in advance for any information.

I bought a 22 Apex with the 6 M/T in cement gray, it is a fun car to drive. The engine revs freely and has no rev hang. The stiff suspension makes it fun to drive its rough but on par with my old lowered mini. It’s quick enough but would be nice with a little more power. I drive some hilly/windy roads back and forth from work so some extra torque would be nice. I do wish the fuel economy was better. In 7 months / 10K miles I’m averaging 28.5 mpg which I contribute to the hilly roads, plenty of stop and go traffic, and a heavy right foot.

Consumer Reports is what killed the Trooper. There was a whole lawsuit about it. The damage CR did to the legacy had already been done, and the Trooper wrongfully got a bad rap as a top-heavy rollover risk, when, in all reality, all other vehicles tested along side have higher rollover incidences. Sadly, Isuzu lost. As far as your comment about them being on the road -- There are several in my immediate area, one being a MINT diesel model. I can never catch the guy, though, because we're always going opposite directions and I'm never in my Axiom when he does show up.
@der_pinguin44
@der_pinguin44 7 күн бұрын
I also wanted to touch on your comment about the 2 door SUVs becoming 4 doors because they were based on their respective pickup trucks: You mentioned the Blazer which I'll get to, but as far as Isuzu goes, this one will tickle you -- The P'up(US market) became the Amigo then later the Rodeo. Now onto the S-10 Blazer -- the S-10 is a cousin of the Isuzu P'up, with early models even featuring the same diesel engine provided in the Trooper.

I have a 2005 (registered 2006) LS430 bought about 5 years ago. One owner from new, who ticked a few option boxes in that it has no rear electric seats and no sunroof but has everything else. Bought it with 80k on the clock, did the belts etc and have simply just driven it ever since. Everything bar the steering wheel motors works (and I am trying to get somebody local to fix that) just failed its MOT on a headlight that decided to self adjust itself too high after a battery reset (unknown to me somebody turned off the battery tender I have plugged into it) but will have that sorted in a few days. Actually thought about selling it and then when looking could not find anything better. (I have tried quite a few and the only thing that came close was a Range Rover but having owned one of those reliability is not a strong point, so this is a keeper if ever there was one.

Those headgaskets put these in the heap with shocking regularity. You have to find one that wasn't raced around or hooned at anytime, because they can't take a hard beating without upgrades. That said, upgrades do exist, but front wheel drive torque steer was already pretty scary from the factory (according to my research). It's still a cool car. Not talking about marks on the new belt. Wasn’t aware that there were marks on the actual belt. I was referring to the mark on the crank shaft lining up with TDC mark on lower timing cover and the mark on the cam shaft sprocket lining up with TDC mark
@autoobsessivegarage
@autoobsessivegarage 18 күн бұрын
Some belts definitely have marks on them…I’ve also done timing belt jobs on many many cars so I may be speaking of another make/model. You might not be to top dead center yet. Sometimes it’s 4 revolutions to get back TDC. If in doubt you can keep cranking by hand and eventually you will get there.
@RexOne108

This is an interference engine (M20B25). If I keep cranking by hand and the timing marks are not aligning will I damage the valves?
@RexOne108
@RexOne108 18 күн бұрын
after releasing tension on the tensioner, you stated to rotate the crank 2-3 times. Asking for clarification here b/c I'm doing this same job on an 87 BMW 325ic. I installed a new belt and released tension on the tensioner, then rotated only 2 TIMES. Camshaft and crank marks did not align with TDC (by a lot). Should I turn the Crank for a 3rd revolution? Don't want to damage valves?
@autoobsessivegarage
@autoobsessivegarage 18 күн бұрын
Are you talking about marks on the new belt not lining up? If so, that’s perfectly fine, those marks are only for installation and will be off after you rotate the crank. Many timing belts don’t even have marks. Cranking the engine by hand is just to tension the belt and ensure everything is moving freely. Hope that helps.

This car was ahead of its time. the stereo can be upgraded with a Grom to give you apple car play. One thing to note is that the UZ motors are aviation certified. They are very expensive when something does go wrong like the soft close doors or the locks, but you save money by not having much to do. They can take a beating. I will never get rid of mine .
