This happened to me this morning. I moved my 2009 Santa Fe 3.3l and parked it. I went to start again and no start, would not go out of park. I s did a quick google search and found your video. 10 minutes later it was fixed. Thank you for your post!

My 06 was juat doing this, P.B. blaster and so grease spray on the little arm connector and nuts and a little bit of working the shifter and poof she all good. Thanka for the vid. I assumed it was something to do with the cable but this vid cleared it right up. Another forum recommended lubing stuff up before adjusting it.

Hello from Costa Rica I bought a Santa Fe 2008 2.2 automatic, Diesel about 4 months ago and it has given me this problem all these months and I didn't know why, I even thought it was the starter, but now I know the reason why sometimes it didn't want to start, thank you very much, it has been of much help, I will check that tomorrow morning. Thank you for this video and great narration. My problem is the shaft that goes into the trany. So rusty and tight I could not move the shifter any more. Heat and lube help to move but still stiff. More use might loosen it.

Hey so I had this problem and spent tons of hours to figure out 1 thing. In the end of the shifter cable where it's attached to the Trans shift post. That piece is supposed to pivot with the cable. It was frozen. The Lil circle the screw goes through is supposed to be free to spin. Put lots of rust break & work it till it's free. Trust me when I say if it doesn't pivot with the movement of the cable you haven't fixed your stiff shifter problem. Don't mess with neutral safety switch. I wish I took a pic. @5.29 you'll see a green nut. When you disassemble the nut. The cable has pivot point inside of the opening.

Thanks bud, my sante fe would only start in neutral, figured it was something electrical with my car starter, but I moved the shifter cable back slightly and everything is fine now. Lots of crappy roads where I live so my guess is it got banged out of positioning over the years.

My 2007 Hyundai Sante Fe Was very hard to shift. I parked and put it in park. It wasvery hard to shift back into drive. The next day I tried starting it and had power inside but wouldn’t even turn over. It looked like it was in park but the censor didn’t work. Took the cover off the shifter and cleaned all the crap that has built up over the years and cleaned up and lubed it. under the car where the transmission cable is. Car started right up and shift great now!

I had that same issue (won't start in Park) but it was intermittent, sometimes it would not start, most of the time it would. Mine was a Hyundai Entourage 2008 (identical to Kia Sedona & similar to an '09 Santa Claus Fe powertrain like in the video). Odd that it was intermittent, I think. Wish I knew about this when I still owned it.

Having a similar issue for 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe. Won't go into park, hard to shift gears, only starts in Neutral. We replaced the Neutral safety switch but that didn't help. Could this be the same issue for us? Seems my research suggests this or the shifting cable.

I just replaced Neutral safety switch on my wifes 2017 Santa fe, she says now it has slightly higher rpm and difficult to put into drive... it started fine, I have to slightly adjust it back

My 2007 hyundai santa fe shift gear stuck in to lower gear drive it won't get back in to parking position nor to neutral. And my key stuck into ready position I can't get it out even i press the key release

I have a 2006 Hyundai Elantra stuck in 2 gear. I turned it on and put it into drive and started to move when it jumped forward and popped. And now it is stuck in 2nd gear.

I could apply this in my following situations? 1- The lever squeaking a lot, while changing gears, when you move the lever itself 2- The starter sometimes doesn't work until I shift into neutral, or sometimes I keep the key with the ignition held, and move the lever from "N" to "D" and the starter works normally again. Who can help me with this? I have the v6 model 2007

Well I find I can get just get it to hit all gears park reverse neutral drive. After screwing with it for hours now it starts in park and hits drive.. I find once in awhile when putting it into park and shutting off . When we go start it sane problem. Poor poor mechanism . So now when it's in drive and we shift to park I slam it up hard with force. Guess what it starts no problem now. Years of rusting and slipping nut.. replace the nut with better threaded one.. so far so good. Pain in the but.
