Everything you said about the R1 2009 - 2014 was SPOT ON. So glad I got this bike low mileage from a friend. Amazing bike. Took me a while to leant to ride it properly as its very different to the previous version R1 2008 I had, but it's very rewarding once you learn to ride it properly.

Its true R1 is harder to ride, I had friends with the Fireblade and R1, the guy with the R1 crashed his the Fireblade is still accident free, I also bought a Blade and its so easy to control it kinda warns u before some crazy shit happens.

@camomclegend ---- you mis-understood what i said. What i meant was, CBR is more easy to ride for a rider who is about to upgrade to a liter bike. Coming from a 600 or/and below.

What I would say is that there's a reason why the Blade rules the TT (this is real road racing so it's good for a benchmark). It's to do with the balancing of the bike as I said in my previous comment. When buying a bike for the roads you're not going to be taking these bikes to their limits in order to be able to tell any real difference. When buying a bike for th road it's all about looks, comfort, what aftermarket parts it has etc

Your comment was true through the second word! The new R1 is untouched. Everyone else will be following suit on the engine design, probably within the year. But, as should go without saying, 99.9% of us will never TRULY be SO fast as to be able to tell a distinct and "terrible" difference between the two. Both are amazing machines. Props to both.

Your comment makes sense. Sometimes when riding on bigger roads you do miss torque from a bigger bike. However, when I go ride on roads with a lot of harder turns, I rather choose the 600cc, at least for now. I just like using all the gears and let the engine rev high. Whenever I feel like I can use at least some of the bikes potential on a race track, I might consider upgrading to a 1000cc. Sorry if something made no sense, my english isn't very good.

Yeah keep in mind I haven't ridden the R1 and this was why I posted on you (as you obviously have). I think it's a good reason mate. Very rarely do I go on a joy ride and take my bike up to anywhere near it's limits. I don't drive so my bie is used for both commuting and fun I was in fact choosing between the R1 & Blade when replacing my last bike. I chose the Blade as I happened to get a really good deal (£8000 for a 2012 Blade with 2200 miles, full Leo system & Levers/Screen).

Yeh you are right. I watched all these reviews before buying my R1, then was shocked to find that the bike is the complete opposite of all the reviews. Terrible top heavy handling, overkill engine braking, absolutely gutless down low, clutch problems, fork problems, cam chain tensioner problems, terrible throttle mapping and heavily restricted. The only conclusion i can come to is the US model is completely different. I've still got my R1, have though very hard about selling it for a blade

@tubbybasset In Perth you need to have a 250 license for at least a year before you can apply for an open class license. But I think the main issue is; when you do get it, there is no restriction on what bike you can buy. And some sports bikes, like the R1 and Suzuki Hayabusa, are insanely quick. The guys in this vid show that not anyone can just jump on a bike and ride hard. Plus over here in Perth, you see guys riding sports bikes in jeans and t-shirts all the time. Thats just nuts!

@Bartholomeusismyname i doubt they were using above 80% throttle right out of twisties, which is where they felt this "grunt" anyway. The ECU flash is more for straight drag/street racing. The R1 is just a machine in general. Keep in mind, the same restrictions applied to the Fireblade too.
@Lessdeth14

I don't know that the R1 is so difficult to get used to. I've ridden and owned both inline fours and twins (GSX-R 1000 K7, a Fireblade, KTM SuperDuke R, KTM RC8 etc) and my 2009 R1 is probably the easiest to ride out of the bunch. The chassis is so good all you do is countersteer the thing into the corner, crank the throttle and it'll keep the line. Cut my previous best time at a certain track by three seconds the second track session. It is bloody amazing. I actually prefer it to the BMW.

I'm 6'0", and I fit on these sorts of bikes pretty well. On one hand, at a stop you can comfortably keep both feet flat and planted on the ground. But at speed, it's going to be a bit harder to get a good tuck going behind the front fairing. Go out to a dealership and sit on a few bikes. You'll see what I mean.

9 out of 10 times most people who ride sports bikes are reborns who only ride on sunday and cant handle the machine so it doesnt matter what one you buy. Personally I prefer the Fireblade because you get much better quality on the build, I have had enough Yamaha go pop on me.

Truth be told, i have a 2010 Fireblade track bike and its only 5th and 6th at high revs that newer bikes have an edge. No rider aids, learn throttle control, a beast into and out of corners. No brainers for track days as theyre dirt cheap. I thought id need a new bike but im still mid fast group. Its just a nice bike to ride, easy and fast

I have seen both these bikes on a Dyno and yes the Honda I'd down on power about 3-4hp 149hp to 153hp for the R1. if you take a look at the power the R1 was making it was all up high with nothing in the low to mid range compared to the CBR and that's what wins on the track up and out of the turns as fast as possible. In a drag race the CBR has the edge with a good off the line feel.

everything they said is true. I am not a racer. But i have ridden those 2 bikes. The R1 is really powerful, engine wise! The R1 just really do not want to stop! It is a very fast bike compare to the CBR1000. But yeah, the CBR is more easy to ride. Good for a LITER BIKE beginners. R1 requires experience and skills from a rider.

@@johnnygorena5318 I was much faster on the track with my CBR. Like 10 seconds faster lap time. Maybe a highway pull from 80 the R1 would edge it out. I never tested that theory. The only thing I would agree with is that the R1 felt faster, but the needle went up quicker on the CBR for me.

@EpiDemic117 i agree bc the r1s are fairly wild as far as power (not saying honda dosnt) but the 05s are good for streets..long wheel base makes it run straight and harder for wind to push u around.. never had a honda tho but my friend had a cbr1000 07 i think...we drove each others and his seemed alot heavyier and he agreed saing the r1 is very light..but it could also be just how the weight is balanced

in TT it's everything about the rider..i also didnt even refer to gsxrs i just said r1 is better.trust me dude ride an R1 and u will see the difference..high torque with a crossplane crankshaft an 100% reliable just like the fireblade..cbr is better than r1 for everyday use as it is more comfort as many honda guys say.. but seriously this is not a good reason to pick a cbr over the r1..i mean if you need "comfort" and "everyday use" you take a scooter and not a track bike..
@viper22jc

handling turns depends on how the rider manages that turn. I like both bikes, but I have an 07 r1. the reason i got that bike is because of good cornering characteristics. I sometimes go to the mountain passes here in california and most of the bikes you see are R1s and R6s. then GSXRs and then Hondas. Not trying to be biased but its just what I've observed over the years of riding in Palomar mountain CA and other places. for the racetrack, a hooked up 600 would be enough for me.

@Stuntman175 Well the crank and to the wheels are way different. Also ram air makes no difference unless you are moving so ram air would not effect the numbers from a dyno run. I was talking about power to the wheels, you know the REAL power your bike shows when you are riding it. Crank numbers are useless because it does not show true power, the wheel power is what you go by.
