I sure wish manufactures would use a tube of anti seize during assembly. I would gladly pay the extra $8.
@motorhed__4333
@motorhed__4333 2 жыл бұрын
absolutley not! anti seize doesnt belong anywhere near bearings or brakes. use a synthetic grease. anti seize can destroy bearings if it gets inside of the assembly
@MN-sc2uz
@MN-sc2uz Жыл бұрын
Just use bearing grease or silicone lube. A little goes a long way. The manufacturers intentionally dont lub upnthese areas, otherwise most will do it themselves.

@@motorhed__4333 there is no reason why they couldn'tat least coat bolts in a thin antiseize compound prior to installation and some sort of lube on the mating surfaces of areas like this

DAMN! Where was this video a couple years ago when I did this on my 2011 3.6R Legacy?!?!?!? There is literally no other video on YT covering this. I figured it out myself and found all the torque specs. In the end I did it just as you showed here. But my confidence level is so much great once I've seen a pro do it first. Thanks for all your great content man! I don't even have the Legacy anymore and I still watched this. (mostly to make sure I did it right. LOL!) Thanks again!

Great tip using a punch to hold the rotor while tightening the hub nut!
@Mrscrapiron5

Coming from Wisconsin, it's weirdly satifying to watch you bang on that hub a bunch of times and it falls right out. When I do this job it's 2-3 hours of banging, spraying penetrant, air chiseling, more banging, more spraying, more air chiseling, ripping the bearing apart, banging on the broken pieces, more air chiseling, wondering how expensive buying a whole new knuckle would be, more banging, spraying and air chiseling and then finally a tiny bit of movement to give me hope. Then another half hour of banging and prying followed by tears of joy. Even more fun in the rear with the ebrake assembly in the way.

Very good vid i formally owned a 05-LGT replaced both fronts myself and i am active in my local Subaru club still (i still love them) for some reason Subarus tend to go through wheel bearings, but at least most of the later model vehicles and bolt-on like this one, i have also had the pleasure of helping with press in on a older bug eye wrx on the rear those take a press. Agreed the hubs tend to rust especially if its around any salt. I am in North Carolina and they can be a bit rusty even in the south-east but nothing like the north! lol

Is it ok to rotate the hub assembly with the CV Axle in the spline on each side separate from the other when trying to hammer off the old rusted on hub assembly? I assume so because it looked like you spun it around when hammering. Also assume hammering the old hub assembly as hard as you need to won't damage anything correct?

Another good video, but I'm jealous of the rust free cars. When I did the front bearings and ball joints on my 09 (NJ and MD car) it was easier to just buy new knuckles from SSP salvage in California. the hub bolts are stared item in the FSM, I replaced mine.

I just replaced my rear hub assembly on my 2014 Outback. The little disk-like thing on the far outside of the axle assembly (I think it's called a baffle plate, as best I can tell) was loose and pretty bent up when I got the hub off. I tried to straighten it out with a vise and pliers, but now that I have the new hub on and everything re-assembled, I'm getting abs and traction control lights. I'm guessing that bent baffle plate is the culprit. Can I just replace that part (and most likely the abs sensor, as well) or will I need a whole new axle?

Our 2014 Forester (2.5i Premium) had both rear wheel bearings replaced under warranty. It is now out of warranty and we're beginning to hear the same humming noise, but this time I can't tell where it is coming from; front, rear, left, right. There's no play in any of the wheels and it is louder from inside the car than outside. @MrSubaru1387, How would you diagnose which bearing(s) to replace?
@HudsonRiver99
@HudsonRiver99 Жыл бұрын
The usual approach is to put the car on a lift with a driver inside. Run wheels at appropriate speed, working carefully around the car to listen to hub noise. Use a decibel / sound level meter to measure noise at each wheel.

Not sure if the previous owner replaced the axle, because the head of the axle looks bigger and there's no way I can fit an extension with a socket for the 4 bolts that hold the hub assembly. Especially the bottom front bolt. And no way to have any leverage since I have a regular jack

hey man i have a quick question for you i would really appreciate it if you could reply. 2014 impreza wrx....i recently had to replace my cv axle and steering knuckle on the front driver side. everything seemed to have went great and the job was an easy success. until i went to drive the car and my car threw p0500 a wheel speed sensor code. come to find out the metal outer dust cover on the cv axle was slightly bent and ran itself into my speed sensor and i think it killed it.. does the speed sensor read off of this metal dust cover?? or does it read off of the magnetic ring on the back of the hub?? ive ordered a new sensor but ill have to take everything apart and bend that metal dust cover on the cv axle out of the way so it doesnt damage the sensor. i just need to make sure the sensor will still be able to read vehicle speed since im pretty sure the dist cover on the cv doesnt do anything..
