OntarioRedneXXX I’m having a problem with my 400 Kodiak It’s cutting out at 35 I just put a new carb on had to take the needle off the old carb and put on the new one the new carb was cutting out at 10mph when I changed the needle It still will only go 35 then It cuts in and out what could be the problem

christopher litton I had a problem last year where my carb boot got loose and sucked a seed into the main jet, I’m not sure if your 400 has the same carb as my 350 but if it does you might check and make sure the cv diaphragm doesn’t have any holes or tears in it as well

I would like to know what vent line and where does the vent line come from. because my 05 Kodiak 450 bogs or sputters when its under load or when I give it when I punch the throttle or I try to go top speed. and seems to not want to higher rpms does not go max rpms. Thanks

@teslame are start by tearing down and cleaning the carb. My main jet got plugged on my 09 350 Kodiak and it would act like that. On the other machine it was the bowl vent tube that was plugged

Wich one are you talking about? Carb vent under gas tank?

@@renaudracing yes, under the gas tank you will find your carb, the carb will have a vent tube, if its block the engine will still idle but when you throttle it will stall. Even your gas tank has a vent tube, block that and you'll get similar symptoms

Hum...vent tube should be for overflowing gas from carb, not for venting air....

check your kill switch, i had this happened and had to replace the tiny spring

I have seen people saying park brake has a switch that will do this. aka kills spark after 1100 rpm

TheTopMostDog my atv when I put it in first it idles real low and then if I give it just a little bit of gas it stalls but if I give it a good bit of the throttle it's fine and when I get going if I go to slow down it shuts off please let me know what you think

Howdy mate. It'll be a matter of either air or fuel, as is almost always the case. Either your mix is wrong because it's set wrong on the carby (via the jet screws or not tuned properly via whichever other electronic delivery I see some ATVs have; for injection motors), or because there's a supply problem on either side. Check your fuel is making it to the carby properly, no blockages in the pipes or filters [Edit: oh, and water will get stuck in a fuel filter, too, so definitely check that if you have one! Condensation inside a fuel can or in the fuel tank itself over time can cause an accumulation of water in your filter.], and check that your air filter, intake pipes and snorkel are not blocked. Beyond that, you could toy with your air/fuel mix on the carby (or computer) to try and fix it up. Generally, though, a fault like this is from old fuel being left in the tank, lines, carby and engine and evaporating, leaving behind residue and blocking things up inside the guts of small components such as (and most typically,) inside the carby - if that's the case, the only real option is to open it up and clean it out. Prevent this in the future by turning off any fuel taps you have and leave it running until it konks out (runs dry) if you plan to leave it sit for a period of time, then drain and fill with clean, fresh fuel when going to ride again. All this stuff is applicable to chainsaws, brushcutters and other small engines, too (if not moreso than ATVs), which is where my knowledge comes from. Hope this helps, good luck.

TheTopMostDog thank you so much it's a 98 honda recon and I got it 3 days ago and it ran perfect everything was fine I even rode it today until about 5 o clock and I slowed down to stop and it just shut off so I thought I ran out of gas so I checked I had gas I decided to fill it up anyways and I started it and it cranked fine...I put it in first idled real low I noticed gave it some gas moved about 2 feet and it shut off I then cranked it again put in first gave it a lot of throttle got it going then it rode fine until I stopped or slowed down to low speeds I put it back it back up in the shop and I'm going to work on first thing in the morning!

@@TheTopMostDog Thanks for the advice, I will always in future leave my ATV fuel tank empty at the end of the grass cutting season. Year old petrol/gas kept causing the problem shown in the video and the carb is such a pain to access/keep removing and cleaning thoroughly.

What if its a new carb

@@commandcleanpressurewashin8386 did you clean the fuel tank, replace petcock and fuel lines with the new carb. Probably same shit that gummed up the old carb gummed up the new one to put it simply

@@MrRedneckdan same problem for me but i completely swapped the carb with a working one gets lots of fuel in the lines cleaned tank but doesn't go past ¼. It worked fine randomly after messing around so i went for a ride, after doing it for 4 mins? Then it left me stranded and needing a tow back because it started again

@@Seriousbird sounds like a not adjusted properly float level or sticking float.

@@MrRedneckdan ill have a look one day, its also incredibly hard to get to, you have to take off the gas tank and all its a random Chinese atv (z star atv 150 b) or (shineray xy150st) same thing different company idk how it works

I let mine run for hour and it did fine but next time I ride it does same thing so it’s a temporary fix

i changed the carb , put new gas for normal ord instead of super, changed the fuel filter and still my 660 run for about 3 min then stop for no apparant reason even on choke

Disconnect your parking break, if it isn't working properly it will prevent the engine from running above idle

@@04grizzly660 i had this issue just recently. We tore the carb out 10 times and we rebuilt it and rebut it and still same issue. We noticed a crack in the manifild i think it's called. Anyways the part that tje carb attaches to the engine. That had a crack in it, but that wasn't it either. All in a it was the carb and a exhaust hose coming out of the carb. We put a screw in it and i haven't had any issues with throttling up/reving up.... runs like a champ now.

Try finding that air line coming off the carb and put your thumb over it and rev it up. It was that simple for my bike. It was in the shop for 3 months and thats all it was...
