Are modern Muscle Cars to be considered as Muscle Cars? We explore a 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and compare it to the first 1969 ZL1 and note the differences and similarities. Of course, this ZL1 is special on it's own, as it is the earliest Captured Test Fleet car produced. From the Brothers Collection.

I have a 2013 ZL1 and I have to say it is a very good car and excellent to drive as a daily. I transitioned from a 2012 SS to this car and I couldn't be happier. The obvious horsepower and performance numbers aside it just feels like somebody took the SS and dialed up the quality a bit. It's a nice place to be.

Yup bone stock they have been known to run 11'90's & with a basic tune, & some DR's I've seen guys running 11'60's..& keep in mind the ZL1 pulls .1g's in the corners with ease. & top speed around 185mph, & still gets well over 20+HWMPG..the 2012-14 ZL1, 2008-15 Challenger SRT8, & the 2007-15 Shelby GT500's are INDEED True American Muscle Cars.

Beautiful car, but 2 tons? That's 60s luxury car weight....🤣 It's a modern muscle car, to me the difference is that super chargers, fuel injection,variable valve timing and computers make these power numbers possible, regardless of brand.

I thought the very first year Gen 5 ZL1 Camaros had only 556 hp, like the CTS-V and then bumped up to 580 hp in 2013-2014

GM Camaro engineers got more power out of the CTS-V engine, from 556 to 580-horse right from the start.
