Men thanks a lot, I don’t mind paying for car repairs when is justified but this glove box latch design feels like a set up.

I needed to work on a CR-Z rather than a Pilot. However, this video contained relevant and valuable information on how the front cover is attached. It really helped me to get started. Thanks for making it! Side note: With the glove box outside of the car, I used a heat gun to carefully heat up the attachment areas to make detaching the cover easier and less risky.

Perfect video! After watching several videos, of ALL different methods, this worked perfectly on my 2012 Honda Pilot! You’re a life saver. After opening, discovered the plastic pull handle snapped inside the mechanism at the pressure point in which it engaged on a metal lever. Faulty design to use plastic at a crucial pressure point. (probably intentionally designed to break over time). Couldn’t have got it without you!! Easy & clear help!! 😁😁👍🏼

Thanks for this video, especially the nail trick for repairing it. I noticed a small gap on the right side under the handle that allowed me to fish a bent wire coat hanger up above the latch inside. I then moved it slightly left and pulled down to open the box without needing to remove the trim. I also had a 4d finish nail laying around that fit perfectly without needing to grind it. Just bend with pliers, trim to length, and glue it in.

Good job. I'd recommend lubing the moving parts before re-installing. Mine is currently not broke, but the mechanism is rough. I'll take it out and lube it which will buy me some time.

I have a 2009 Honda CR-V that I bought used and the glovebox wouldn’t open, I tried this for HOURS, I was losing my mind. I finally had to take the two 8mm bolts off the bottom to get the glovebox to hang loose, then I pulled it out as far as I could and pushed the sides of the glovebox in as well allowing it to come out from the frame holding it even more (I didn’t care if it broke or not as this point, but it didn’t). Then I had to lay on my back in the floorboard and cut the back of the glovebox out with PVC cutters. The cutters allow you to cut through thick plastic like that. It was a pain in the a… but it did the job. I had to cut a decent size so I could unscrew the metal bar the latch attaches to, there was 1 8mm bolt/screw attached above the latch, then I unscrewed 2 regular screws that hold the latch to the glovebox frame, with the bar and latch no longer attached to the frame I was able to pull the glovebox even more where I could see the latch and use a screwdriver to undo it and it opened. It was hell but I got it.. after getting the latch off I could see why this wouldn’t work for me. The latch mechanism was bent and it wasn’t hitting the part to pull down the latch. So for hours I was pushing it down and it wasn’t hitting anything.. this is a lot but it worked.

Thank you for sharing this, I find Honda using cheap materials on their cars. This will help me fix the same problem you have.

The dealership is currently fixing the same issue and they did not peel the panel off. Instead they used a tool to remove the plastic face around the lock and to remove the lock itself. It was broken when I bought it so they're fixing it at no charge to me but they have to order a part for it.
