This video is 8 years old, my MacBook Pro 2012 is already 12 years old... Today, by following your detailed instructions, I was able to clean up the old thermal compound from my CPU and GPU (well, the powder that was left, to be more precise) and to apply a new one. My widget shows now a nice temperature of just about 45 Celsius (it was 60 and above before). It feels so good to do these kind of tasks on my own without the need to bring my laptop to someone else! Thank you so much for the time you took to help other people like myself. I wish you all the best!

Great tutorial. I updated my mid 2012 MAC and figured since it would be open, I may as well apply new thermal paste. Great tutorial! Thanks a million!

Hi, thanks a lot for the tutorial, it was so usefull. My mbp temp was ramping sky high. Just an observation, on the assembly process, the T6 screw on the middle right of the mainboard is misplaced. Check 2:37 vs 6:06. Another thing, is always a good practice to start disconnecting the battery line.

Hello! I just followed your instructions - thanks so much for making this video. Everything's great except my battery isn't working anymore ( though I can still power it up and use it via mains power). What could I have done? I've triple-checked to see that I've reconnected the battery and battery life indicator correctly. I'm also not getting any battery life indicator on the side... :/

Thanks for the video! I'm nervous but I'm going to try it. I figure it's worth a try as the throttling notebook is very frustrating to use as is. I ordered tools and paste. should be here midweek and then I'm jumping in feet first, Thanks!

OK! I did it and it worked so far. Yeah baby! Thanks. I notice that mac's fan control reports the cpu as running hotter than before I changed the thermal paste but I've had the MBP on and plugged in and it's working great. No throttling! Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!!

Great! To be honest on an older book like a 2012 I would manually blast the fan on max with fan control form the downloads section at appledollars.com to get best performance.

If the Macbook Pro is overheating, will you need the replace the Heatsink entirely or just re-apply new thermal paste?
@dongnippano156

It turned out quite easy as I tried it. Reconnecting the DC power cable under the logic board and aligning the board was a challenge for me. I got through, it's fine. The laptop performed faster, it's subtle but you can tell there is a difference. things load a bit faster and satisfying.

You can get rid of the Dvd drive and install another SSD and setup a raid 0 so it will be twice as fast.

I am down to prying out the logic board, I managed to hear "popping" from the tape on the microphone but the board won't budge. It slides and rotates, but at the top near the DC in the board, it just doesn't come up. I don't want to end up breaking it, any tips? I've also ensured all cables and screws are undone.

@@VC-bz1ej yeah, I found out that it was just the tape from the microphone holding the board down. You basically need to carefully but strongly separate the tape from the mic.
