Does the oil flow from the bottom of cooler to top? Looking at the factory filter that’s seems to be the path.

It's easier if you drop the engine and trans together while connected to the subframe and take the rack apart at the column .drop the whole assembly

In the second last part how do you move to the next bolt ? Spin the axle?

You rotate with the crank bolt 🔩

Would you happen to know the difference between the maxima transmissions that say ako #1 and #2. I ordered a transmission from the same year. Mine is 06/11 #2 and the new one is from a 08/11 #1.

My 2010 Maxima (118K mi.) was just towed from Maryland last night. It sounds like the CVT. It just wouldn't drive and had not lights on the dash. Is this a fix for the dealer?

I'm thinking about getting a Maxima but I'm kinda worried about the transmission since it's a CVT trans. Any suggestions for a good 4 door car under $8000?

Oh man, I really like this generation maxima. I don't do much work to them either they're pretty decent imo. But you can never go wrong with a Lexus. Get a GS or an LS. I would prefer an LS. LS460 might be possible but for sure a low mileage LS430 for that price.

I have a 2014 maxima the transmission failed at 64k and I purchased used at 15k. I will say this they recommend drail and fill the transmission fluid every 30k miles I did it once but maybe not for another 30k and it went bad also you have to park with the parking brake not the transmission to avoid putting weight on it when possible. get in a habit of letting it roll to a stop from neutral with the parking brake then park. I feel confident the new transmission which I got this week at 64k will last with these steps taken. also do no switch gears from drive to reverse until car is at a complete stop

I hope it lasts for you. It's crazy how one may fail at such low miles, then others last a long time. Hopefully your used one has a warranty. We have a used supplier that gives us 3 yr 36k on all their units. Very uncommon in my area.

@@CarMechaNick 12,000 warranty from Nissan dealership. I got the transmission free because it was still under the extended warranty I purchased when I got the vehicle. I feel I was naive on how to care for the transmission also. I drive gently and do not abuse it or engine. But I can imagine how much damage was done parking on non flat surfaces for those 63000 miles without using the park brake rarely ever. So the plan is fluid drain and fills every 30k miles, frequently parking with brakes instead of weight on transmission, and avoiding ever switching gears while vehicle is in motion which I never did. Wish everyone luck with the nissan CVT

The small one? That was the breather tube for the trans.

If its new yes you do. It's its used, I've just used the tcm from the donor car.

We do it all the time. Usually with dealership units. It just depends on how you feel honestly. If the car has high miles I would probably look into getting a different car.

It could be mounts or an axle too doesn't mean you need a trans.

Hey man I have the 2011 maxima but it's not going nowhere its starts and accelerate but when I put the gear on drive doesn't move the same on reverse any advices sr.?

Maybe check to see if you have fluid in the unit. If so and you're for sure engaging drive it probably needs serious work unfortunately.

I honestly am not sure. Sometimes the other mechanics will diagnose and I will replace the unit.

Hey I'm looking into getting a 2016 maxima SL with around 80k on the clock. Whats the first service I should do on it? I'm thinking changing the cvt fluid and starting it on a Mobil 1 for the rest of its life. Also I'm looking at a 2014 es350. If you had a choice between the two vehicles which one would you choose? The Lexus has about 114k on the clock

CVT's have created a MONSTER! Oh indeed yes it has. Yes, it is smooth and no shifting of planetary gears;but it is NOT worth it. For the planetary transmission is the best. I am sorry I ever bought my brand new Nissan Maxima with CVT. It has been a headache ever since I drove it out of the dealer in Sep 2007. Today it still has not reached 50K. Looks brand new, but that damned CVT frustrates me to the "nth" degree. IE: From day one between 20 and 30 MPH, the CVT vibrates the entire car. Nissan says, there is NO fix for it so they would NOT change it under warranty. Now not all 2007 Maxima's have the problem, but many of them do. And electric cars are another joke. So I am going to buy a standard Planetary transmission, like from Toyota, and to hell with Nissan and ALL CVT's. Because they are a step backwards in the evolution of automobiles as I stand on this planet. For what it's worth..

Car MechaNick can someone who has experience change a cvt transmission without having to take it to a dealership? I watched you do it, but do you have to take it to dealership to reset to computer?

@@richardtivis2561 We send it to the dealer afterwards. Mainly because we need to have the receipt for the warranty. Though its only a year long we have had new ones fail quickly unfortunately. 🙃 Someone could have the equipment at home, but I do not.
