I wanted to make a few closing comments on this bike , ultimately referring to the RT. To be honest, this bike is phenomenal. I am truly impressed by how well it accomplishes what it sets out to do.

thx for sharing all the info and your experience with this awesome bike, I did a test ride last year at BMW (also several models, 800, 1200RT, 1200GS) and the K1600GT is definitely a smooth riding bike and I ride a 700cc Honda Transalp every day to commute. The BMW felt good the moment I sat down, riding is a blast.

Thank you, great videos. I test rode a GT today (much more engaging than the GTL that I test rode the day before yesterday) and I can honestly say that I haven't had a much fun on a motorcycle as I did today in years. I love the noise of the exhaust when you open it up. It sounds like a formula 1 race car engine ! I powered out of a corner just hear that noise again, glanced down to see that I was doing 140 mph ! It's bonkers ! Shall place my order in the next couple of days. :D

For the 2013 GT guys. Had a recall, all switches replaced for free, although I did not have any problems with them. I had problems with the gas gauge. After I refilled, it would go "Up and Down" continuously. Under warranty it was replaced, but they had to get it directly from BMW/Germany. There were none in USA. Took over a week to get it. Other than that, its a great all around bike. I've been riding for over 40 years (I'm 60) And I have owned 15 bikes. Traded in a 2008 GW for this bike. It was a little over 30k out the door with all options (GPS, Audio, Heated seats/bars, lower fog lights, cruise) The GTL is less expensive, by about $2500-3500. The dealer was really pushing the GTL over the GT. They only had 2 GT's on the showroom floor, and a friend bought the other one at the same time. I think BMW at the time was not producing allot of them, so they were scarce. Took it in for the 3k maint, $400. But, thats a YEARLY maint fee, not bad. I've gotten on this thing only once "Hard" it was amazing. Living in Denver, I go canyon carving allot, its very well balanced. It also gets great gas mileage for a huge bike. Just my $0.02

Thanks a lot for the time and effort you put into the videos. I've watched all three videos on the K1600GT and got a lot out of them. I am buying my first BMW bike and with your help I've decided to go with the K1600GT. Part two was particularly helpful, the walk around with the explanation helped enormously. If you did go ahead and make the switch i'd love to hear your thoughts on the bike after a few months or miles. All the best.

Thanks.... your review of the 2013 BMW K1600GT. Your excellent review of this fine machine has made me to go ahead and place an order for a new 2014 BMW K1600GT Sport today. I was told by BMW that they have one in stock and I should be able to pick my new BMW K1600GT on June 15/14

Great video. In your opinion, how does the RT and the GT fit for shorter riders? I am approximately 5 foot 7 inches tall. I just sold my Ducati 1098 in which I loved, but I can never stay flat footed when I come to a stop light.

Well, I can tell you that I ended up buying the bike that is in this video. I found as the day and miles rolled on, like my RT, I wanted to ride it more and more. It was coated in bugs and dirt when I arrived the following day at the dealer, but I already knew I was hooked. Its not perfect, but pretty close, and I will be posting in the coming days my opinion after almost 5000 km (in 3 weeks!).

Thx for the video, I'm looking to buy my first bmw bike trying to avoid buyers remorse. If you were going to buy just one which would it be rt1200 ir k1600gt ? KR

Good question- and to be honest , I can really only have one right now - and I chose the K. But not because of the gizmos. I chose the K because of the fundamental bike that it is. However , I will tell you that the RT is a perfect transition from someone coming off an adventure tourer, a small standard, or a dual purpose bike. For those folks, the RT is simply perfect as an all-day bike. If you are coming off a big sport bike , then the K is probably the better one.

Great video series. Just wanted to add my two cents. I'm also a RT owner and a new GT rider and I'm surprised BMW did not include a automatic reverse option for the GT. The addition 130 Ibs makes it difficult to reverse the bike into some parking spots. Also the storage compartments next to the engine is an engineering mistake. You really can't put any electronic devise in those compartments. The ease of removing the top case in the RT is completely ruined in the GT. Lastly, the mufflers are a bit overkill, weighing nearly 100Ibs. BMW could have achieved the same goals with a much lighter muffler system while making the bike lighter.

That has always been an issue with BMW's (and also Ducatis!). My RT was very tall, but its low weight reduced that feeling of "tippyness". The seat height on the K is about 1/2" lower in its lowest setting (both bikes offer 2 position adjustable seats). Additionally, you can order a seat that is lower at no additional charge. That lower seat should be much better than your 1098.

im getting mine this weekend and im 5"10 about 220; is the size of this bike very intimidating depending on your size and riding experience?

The bike is well balanced, so it would depend more on your experience than your size. I think with time, and caution, you will quickly become accustom to the bike.

Chris On the Street i just left a 800 BMW and loved the Bmw models so much sold it and went to this 1600 K. I took my time to get it because didn’t want to keep trying to upgrade l rather try and grow with it if possible. Thank you

I know this is an old video but i am seriously comsidering buying a 2013 with 2500 miles on it. Do you still recommend this bike. It seems like the best touring bike on the planet. I try and do all of my maintenance myself on my bikes but have never owned one this technologically advanced. I currently own a harley ultra classic but im ready to enter the 21st century!

BMW offers 2 road touring bikes to accommodate 2 different styles of touring; the K16 and the R12. The K is best suited (in my opinion) to divided highway , 2 up, fast riding for larger and taller riders. If you are riding back roads alone or are smaller stature, you should take a look at the R. IN either case, i think you will be very happy.

It would be cool if BMW came out with a "sportier" version of this K 1600 GT model. Less fairing , headers and more color combos.
