Wow. I ride a 99' LT now and it just keeps getting heavier every year. I'm looking at an RT, and this video pretty much convinced me that the 2014 is the one that I want. This was a great demo of the bike, Thank you....

Have not ridden the 2014 "wasserboxer," but clearly recall three years ago riding a new 2011 RT. Was surprised at ease of slow riding traffic maneuverability and clutch. Can imagine, therefore, how even sweeter this slimmer, smoother version is. BTW, I have visited the Mountain View showroom but, until viewing this video, was not ever aware of Cal Moto's Livermore outpost. Nice rural getaway test!

The 2014/2015 RTs are truly a quantum leap forward over an already very advanced Sports/Touring motorcycle. Agile, responsive, smooth, predictable, and comfortable. Having had a 2002 & 2011, the new RT builds on legacy strengths while greatly advancing the concept on an 'integrated and modern' motorcycle.

I have been looking at a 2010 model for 6 grand, but there's a 2014 model for 9 grand, which doesn't look as good IMO (I like the old gas tank with strap holes) and the 2010 model has the comfort seat, satnav IV and luggage. But after watching this I may now get the 2014 model, especially because of the new dashboard.

Still evaluating...2015 K1600GT sport or the R1200RT. I rode the 1600 in Sac and found it slow speed heavy yet surprisingly responsive to steering input at speed. Mush lighter feeling than my 2010 Concours. I would look forward to any input you might have. Thanks for the video!

Sad to hear of all of the negative comments. I was thinking of trying the new boxer after my GTR as a I've had a love affair with the little twin for quite some time. Guess I'll wait and see what the consensus is. By the way, the GTR, or Connie 14 as we call it in the USA is incredible bike too.
@adammfharris
@adammfharris 2 жыл бұрын
I had a Connie 14 for a year. Bought it brand new. I sold it because of its ultra lack-of-agility in the corners. Also the tires lasted about 1200 miles, the handlebars were way too low, and the seat was terrible. I ended up getting heli-bars and the comfort seat, and a lip on the screen because of the buffeting in the high position and everything got better. I was riding back from a trip one time, and I realized it was super dumb it didn’t have cruise control when everything else does. I think I went on one more ride after that, tried to pass a car on the highway in 6th, and it had absolutely no power. The power on that bike is completely the opposite of the RT. It takes crazy high revs to get to the powerband. That bike is the polar opposite of the RT. The RT has crazy power where you need it, and turns in like a supersport. It feels like it’s 300 pounds. The Connie feels like it’s 900 pounds.

Possibly the reason for you not liking the shift assist pro is because you have have no idea how to use it properly.On the upshift all you need to do is to keep the throttle in the same position i,e don't throttle off to change up,result,smooth as silk shifting.Shifting down is somewhat different in that you need to shut the throttle completely off and then kick the lever down,the bike has a throttle blipper system which ensures the rev's automatically match the required gear,simple.By flipping the throttle in the normal way,you are overriding the system.Go back and ask for another ride and ride it as I have just explained,I'm sure you will love it.

It’s not at all. The Concours 14 is underpowered. Yes, it has 160hp, but you don’t get anything until 6k rpm. This bike gets everything at 1k and pulls linear to the redline…. It has 125hp, but would smoke the Connie through the Cherohola

BMW has developed a habit of letting the early owners of new models be their test riders. Despite their reputation, several of their bikes are actually poorly made and terribly unreliable. Case in point: The new R/RT is also a quantum leap in this department: BMW just warned all R1200RT owners not to ride their bikes because of a risk of the rear suspension strut breaking with potentially disastrous consequences. Already some European riders have had this happen, so it's not just a potential problem, but an actual one. And the worst part is that BMW has no idea what the problem is or how to fix it. If you bought one of these, congratulations: you now own a static modern sculpture. Something to be proud of while you ride the bus...

Plus all the switch gear is of a poor quality, I have just "dumped" because of unreliability an immaculate K 1300 GT EE with 11000miles on the clock after I had two faulty left hand switch gear replacements (£300 GBP, second one only lasted 270 ish miles) ALL the front end suspension bushes and an advisory on a back wheel bearing at its MOT, also my friend who owns a K 1600GT has had the same on his suspension at 6000 miles and the same switch but with a bonus as BMW told him they had to be replaced as a pair at £600 GBP due to being CANBUS !! so think carefully before shelling out ££££££££or $$$$$$$$$ ona purchase of this kind, Ps BMW have a recall on all the RT machines now in Europe I believe.
@peterarmstrong9116
@peterarmstrong9116 2 жыл бұрын
Great to be able to come back (8 years later! 😅) and comment in retrospect! To be fair, it turned out the suspension issue wasn't BMW's fault, but that of an external parts supplier, and only affected the Dynamic ESA optioned models. BMW subsequently offered a very generous compensation package for the inconvenience to buyers. Many 2014 RTs have now racked up well over 100,000kms, so no, not "actually poorly made and terribly unreliable" at all. Seems you were too quick to pull the trigger on the Bavarian hate...🙄
@CaptHollister
@CaptHollister 2 жыл бұрын
@@peterarmstrong9116 First of all, if you fit defective parts from an outside supplier, you absolutely are at fault because your QC department failed in their one task. Saying that an outside supplier was responsible for the ESA issues is just a cop out that does not in any way remove the blame from BMW. Anyhow, that was just an example that was current back then. Here are a couple more: The rear sprockets on early belt drives. The switchgear on early K1600s that would cook and stop working when the bike was parked in the sun. Going back further, there were output shaft bearing failures on R100GS. This happened to me and it was an expensive repair. The chrome also started coming off one of the headers almost immediately. The speedometer packed up at 15k km. A friend of mine put over 300k km on his identical GS, but freely admits that it was required several costly and time-consuming repairs along the way. That's the thing with Beemer owners, they will tell you how great their bikes are, but conveniently forget the time the alternator packed up, or the time the fuel pump failed, or the time they could no longer use their high beam. There is a reason for Consumer Reports to have ranked BMW 2nd last in reliability amongst motorcycle manufacturers. As it happens, I also read French bike magazines, one of which ran an investigation on BMW's multiple warranty issues. I've never seen any English-language publication do anything similar.
@peterarmstrong9116
@peterarmstrong9116 2 жыл бұрын
@@CaptHollisterhow can BMW QC a part they neither designed nor manufactured? Yes, they're responsible for replacing the defective component, however the cost of them doing so is recovered by them from the component manufacturer. By their nature all machines are bound to have faults, even the likes of Rolls Royce have had recalls. In fact I'd go as far as to say I've never owned a vehicle that's not been subject to a recall of some description. I take consumer reports with a grain of salt; they're simply a survey, not a study. They're incredibly subjective; one person's perception of what constitues a fault can be very different to another's, especially when you take into consideration x factors such as the target buying demographic and brand loyalty.
