2014 Acura RLX Review with 100k miles on it. The Acura RLX got redesigned for the 2014 model year to feature the latest tech and Acura design. I've also driven the 2020 Acura RLX link here: • 2020 Acura RLX Review....
I truly like and appreciate what Acura has to bring to the table in regards to its flagship. It is completely different from the German rivals and nearly half the cost even new. The Acura RLX is a front-wheel drive-based vehicle with rear-wheel steering. It is a trait that no other large executive sedan shares. Because of this, you can use the RLX year-round with all-season tires and it is only the size of a mid-size sedan while offering the interior space of a full-size sedan. It is a shame that Acura has stopped making the RLX, but at least you can take advantage of this great car in the used car market.

Hey dude first off I gotta say thank you for this review & for giving the RLX its props. It is very much slept on & it does so many things well! And you are very accurate when you said they're hard to find. I had a tough time finding the one I have because I wanted the advanced package. But in any trim it's an exceptional automobile. Great review! I purchased a CPO 18 red/black RLX hybrid back in Dec/2019 with only 7200 miles on her. Prices were rock bottom pre-pandemic, cheap gas available, and everyone being SUV/truck crazy. Zero issues after +2 years and +20,000 miles on her now. The RLX really stands out and I get so many people asking about the car and commenting on how good it looks. Never seen below 28 mpg in the city and avg between 30-34 mpg on the hwy at 70-80 mph. Hard to justify the +$60,000 price new; but, an absolute steal in the used market.

I work for Acura and we had few RLXs and eveytime we had one i would take it for a spin and i just think it's the best driving Acura, the sport hybrid handling in corners and high way ramps is absolutely stunning, i know the look is not very wow but since the last refresh it grew on me. That hybrid mini NSX drive train is really underrated!

I’ve been looking for a top of the line RLX, finally found one with 76,000 kilometres (47,000 miles) it’s like new inside and out. I love everything about it. I really don’t know why automotive writers poo poo front wheel drive vehicles. I live in Canada and get 6 months of snow and ice covered roads, rear wheel drive cars are horrendous in this weather. I’m really surprised Acura doesn’t sell more of these in Canada.

It’s definitely a good car in the used car market, but I do have to say I agree with the press that it didn’t meet all the luxury requirements when this thing was new. The price point for this vehicle was too high for what it actually is, so that’s why I believe it’s been knocked on so much. In the used market, this is probably one of the best steals to snag up.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to make this review. I feel like the RLX never really had a fair chance: this car was under-marketed by Acura, looked down upon by most “pro” car reviewers (when they didn’t downright ignore it!). It’s hard to find honest, unbiased ownership information on this very unique flagship.

Came close to purchasing a 2 owner 2014 Rlx with 110k miles and flawless Carfax report. But upon inspecting the Carfax with 61 reports, about 23 of the reports were for suspension issues. The front struts were replaced twice within 40k miles. To replace the headlight assembly is $2,500 plus the Suspension actuators are almost about $1k per side. I decided to walk away but I loved the style, interior and the Krell stereo was incredible

Most people don't think of Acura when it comes to top-tier luxury, and I can sort of agree, but there is no denying that Acura does a lot of stuff right in terms of comfortable driving experience, overall useability, the engine, and the value that comes with them.

Hello I very much appreciate your video on the RLX I have owned one since may 2014 bought it brand new off the show room floor so it’s going on. 8 years. This vehicle is the best vehicle I have ever owned I probably will never sell it I love the styling, handling, safety devices and overall comfort of the vehicle. The ride is a little bit harsh with the 19 inch rims and the low profile tires but overall I love this vehicle have had only one issue and that is with the rear wheel actuators (had them both replaced under warranty, right rear twice) but other than that the car is exceptional!

I bought the Acura RLX 2014 new and after 55000 miles drives as good as new. Not too many RLX's were being sold compared to TLX at that time, probably because of the price and reviews. I test drove the RLX immediately after TLX on the same day - fell in love with the RLX smoothness and handling compared to TLX and had to buy it although I had gone expecting to buy the TLX. Great review which reinforces my decision to buy the 2014 RLX. Two useless things missing from the review are Paddle Shifters as well as Acura Link which no one probably uses.

Great choice, amazing car. These "professional" car reviewers on most channels (not this) constantly suck up to many european cars and have an illegitimate bias. Not everyone wants a bone jarring ride to work in the morning, or hit the corners aggressively. Don't get me wrong, the AMG and M cars are amazing but the majority of the cars BMW and Merc sell are not those and theyve actually readuced their quality to what is was many years ago. My 2 cents, enjoy your sick RLX!

I feel bad LC100 I just saw this comment because Irfan R relied to it so I apologize for the late response but thank you so much guys, really humbled by your kind words. Yea I def like some Euro cars but others are just over hyped and you're right Irfan, most of the performance products ride like trash and they are def cost cutting interiors on entry level models which can still go for like 50-75k. Japanese cars drive great with very little compromises, the RLX is def proof of that and their interiors last the test of time and remain solid. Thank you again for stopping by and watching

The RLX is a well respected car in my opinion. And i would buy a Acura over any German car for the reliable aspect and being a owner of 4 Acura's i know the reliability is there. Also they are under appreciated in my opinion because the German market pushes these over priced car's without realizing cost of repairs that a person will go through if bought and not leased.

Honestly you will probably hate to hear this but a Civic is phenomenal and I am not kidding you just a great car and it truly lasts. Manual can be a lot of fun too. 3k is just not enough of a budget for any real japanese luxury cars unless its some 1990s ES 300 which looks like a Camry and is beat to hell and will look worse than a civic. @Godspeed Megatronus 2nd gen prius ('05-'08?)? A lot of people are afraid of getting hybrids because of battery costs but priuses are so common that parts/ battery are relatively cheap. It also doesn't have the Toyota tax that Corolla or civics carry. 2nd gen priuses has advanced tech for its age and price range (remote key, infotainment). I've seen a lot of people say their prius reach 600k+ miles. Also at $3k you can't be that picky on what the car looks like unless you're looking for a dragging bumper. Worry about reliability. @@Profitswithfreedom hey Sir, so at the time that I wrote this everything is all good but I will tell you this make sure that when you buy one of these look over the maintenance history, take it to Acura have them do a full overhaul maintenance check to make sure all things are working properly. My car is currently in the shop right now for ball joint issues, so just make sure that the car suspension is working fine and you should be OK now this car is a champ. I just came back from Long Beach California from Sacramento and the thing performs admirably. The gas mileage is out of this world so I would recommend this vehicle just like any other vehicle though. Make sure you get a checked out properly so that way you’re not in over your head, but Maintenance cost if you get it done in a timely manner will save you a lot of money. I know that the timing belt service is about $2000 but it includes the timing belt spark plugs water pump belts everything else that is needed for at least 150,000 miles anything else just look it up to make sure that you’re on top of it other than that the car is a very very nice car for its age I know that when I go to the dealership they admire it they said they don’t make cars like this anymore but for the 2014 to 2016 model years just realize that in the 2014 model year the first generation of the RLX the suspension makes a quirky noise The suspension is fine but it just makes a quirky noise that makes it sound like it’s clunking that’s apparently normal because mine was doing that and still does but if you can get past that a little bit of noise, you’ll be OK.

"Brakes that won't put you through the windshield" is a nice way of saying they suck lol you can always apply less brake but it's hard to add more brake when you need it. Better to have too much and let the anti-lock sort it out in an emergency than too little.
@MeynMotorGroup
@MeynMotorGroup 4 жыл бұрын
Lol no that's not what it means I hate overly grabby brakes for no reason where they just put all the bite up front and it's not really a better braking system. Volvo typically does this with their new cars it is like its made for people who don't know how to properly bring a car to a stop. I like a more progressive feel to the brakes like how Acura and Lexus program their brakes

I have a CPO 18 RLX sport hybrid since 2019. The powertrain is outstanding with 377hp/341tq, mpgs always +28 city and 30-34 hwy, extremely quick, and very comfortable to drive. The 18-20 RLX have a softer suspension setup and can feel more lexus soft hwy cruiser than M/AMG/S-line sporty sedan. The info-tainment is outdated and doesn't have Carplay (but you can add GROM to fix). Perfect car if you love to drive, not so much if you love luxury touches or high tech more (I love to drive).

$13,000?? 😱 I still regret not keeping my 2005 RL longer. When I bought it CPO, I added the a-spec package and think that design looked best in silver. There’s so many little details with that car I loved where it was on a totally different level than the TL at the time. The seats were like pillows, the doors opened all the way to 90 degrees, and the sound system is probably still the best I’ve owned. That’s even after me having 2 Mercedes with the premium sound system and the Bose system on my G37 later. I got a brake service done on the RL and got suckered doing a brake flush which ruined the seals. That was going to cost me $1500 so I decided to unload it after only about 20 months of ownership. Big mistake and really didn’t like my next car half as much

during my shopping for AWD this Vehicle came across. one thing turn me off . the maintenance cost . reading consumer review . I noticed they mentioned preparation for expensive maintenance. but that is regarding the AWD version in which the fully loaded. maybe on this base one . a bit reasonable. but I do like the overall look style and interior design.
@mrgold3591

The only additional maintenance cost with the hybrid is changing the oil in the rear twin motor unit every 30,000 - 60,000 miles with the same 7DCT DW-1 fluid and changing the separate coolant for the DC inverter at 105,000 miles (uses the same coolant as the engine). Other than that, same scheduled maintenance as the fwd 3.5L RLX; but, your get 377hp, under 5 second 0-60 mph times, and always +28 mpgs.

Exhaust Sports Auto I agree about the front wheel drive aspect too. It’s a well rounded setup for the daily. Also, people always forget with AWD you’d have to change all the tires at the same time you can’t just rotate them or replace in pairs. The only negative to this car imo is the premium fuel requirement

Exhaust Sports Auto Exactly. If it says Premium Required on the gas cap you gotta do it but a lot of people don’t. I legit called 6 Infiniti dealers around the US about putting Regular fuel in my previous car, a 3.0 twin-turbo Q50 and half of them said Regular was fine despite it clearly saying Premium Required on the gas cap. Lots of fake info out there. Acura’s are cool, never owned one but I almost leased a 2004 Acura TSX. In retrospect, I should have bought that car because I still see a lot of them on the road and they aged quite well. [At the time, I leased a 2004 Saab 93 instead 😂] What was I thinking?

I test drove the 2020 ES 350 Ultra luxury again. I decided to take my professional decibel meter. The result's, the ES 350 was 3-5db quieter with peaks and dips at 40mph on fresh tarmac and at 60mph on worn freeway than a 6 year old 20k Toyota on worn Michelins. That would equate to twice or three times as quiet in a lab environment. The ES was built like a tin can, compared to the RLX and the 2021 TLX. The biggest flaw was the atrocious wind noise and tire noise of traffic at highway speed. Was definitely not a bank vault at all. Conclusion: Go buy a V6 Camry or Avalon if you need more room and have to have a Toyota. The RLX 16-17/ 18+ is more refined than the new TLX, ES, and LS500. I will be purchasing a 2017 like your review car that has 8k miles CPO for around $20k hopefully by Christmas.

Should you BUY the 2020 Acura RLX or WAIT for the redesign?
