2014 Nissan Versa Note Transmission Fluid Drain and Fill

This is something I had to do on my commuter car. Nissan tries to make this difficult by burying the dipstick underneath the battery, the ECU and the coolant overflow container. It really was much easier than it has been portrayed in other videos. Also, my Nissan dealer was less than helpful with the amount of fluid needed, despite the owners manual stating that you have to use the special Nissan CVT NS3 fluid. This drain and fill required 2 quarts.

You can remove the fill plug from underneath the vehicle. Push inward on the tab while pushing upward on the dipstick plug. no need to remove the battery and fluid tank

how many liters are used to replace the automatic transmission fluid after two pieces, nut and allen key remove?

To do a complete flush, you need to remove the overflow tube, which you can unscrew with an allen key into the drain plug hole. Fluid capacity is 7 liters. To get the right level, the fluid temperature must be between 95-113 degrees F.

Fill plug: automatic, manual, and cvt Drain plug: automatic and manual Over flow plug: 2012 and later automatic and cvt Therefore the only way to fully remove all of the fluid with and overflow tube is via a tool similar/equal to a mityvac. And then you refill it until it leaks out of the overflow tube. And then torque the overflow plug to 31 in-lbs.

Sorry about the lack of replies to the comments. I rarely have time for KZfaq. Thanks for all your comments. I hope this video helps all of you who like to work on your own Versas. I want to emphasize that I am not a mechanic, I just like working on things. Follow this video at your own risk. Update- my Versa has about 110K and it is still running well (but I drive it like a grandma). If you push this CVT it will fail. I hope to get 200k out of this car- I think for an inexpensive car this would be a win. I agree with the comments that doing a full transmission fluid change with removal of the drain pan and new filter is optimal. I simply showed a fast spill and fill procedure. Thank for your video helped me do the dip stick part for my car, same year and model. First time I did the simple process of removing the overflow and refilled around 2 quarts, I did it twice with 1500km drive in-between made a great improvement for some time. the 2nd time this process did not help as much so I decided to remove the pan and the metallic filter for cleaning, I was not able to clean the metallic filter properly as I found no way to open it, the filter is inside the "box" that hold it. I cleaned the magnet and pan properly and refilled with around 4 quarts and it made a great improvement. Next time, I am going to remove the pan again and replace the metallic filter with a new one. Apparently there is another filter on the side, need to remove a wheel to access, I saw those side filter can get very dirty, I was not able to find a video for this specific process for this specific car model. From my experience I would say the Nissan dealership I visited, when I began to have acceleration problem around 100 000km, did a bad job, they charged me inspection to tell me nothing was found. when I began to have more issues I discovered that the transmission fluid need to be change, the dealership never ever talked about transmission fluid change as a thing and I simply did not knew about this. My car was already at 100 000km at inspection for my issues and I was at 130 000km when I finally did my first fluid change. For them the liquid is lifetime warranty and they will only change it after problems with the transmission begging, like belt slipping. No wonder why so many people have their transmission fail, the liquid get full of metal and overheat from lack of maintenance and once the belt begin to slip, tear and wear are like exponential as the liquid is overheating due to the metal particle causing more slip causing more particle.... I am now at 205 000km, so I guess I was able to push that transmission over it's "expected" lifetime even for it's "bad maintenance". I hope to reach 300 000km with it, I'm going to run it until the CVT fail for good, it's already all paid and it's been somewhat economic to run, I don't think I can get much by reselling it anyway. This is my first car and it has been a great learning experience in basic mechanic for me. I do a lot of distance because I do food delivery. Doing my own maintenance for what I able to do is fun and cost saving.

@@sergemarquis4996 thanks but why did you get 4 quarts replaced pulling the pan vs 2 on a drain and fill? I don’t see how the pan is holding an extra 2 quarts?

Hi man, thanks for the useful video, I have 2014 Nissan Versa Note SV everything works perfect but there is shaking at the RBM when I drive at speed 80KM and above also the car shakes softly while that happen. So if I change the CVT oil is that will fix the issue PLEASE HELP ME. Thanks a lot

Have you had any issues with the transmission going out? I’m coming up on my 2nd one since 2014, they seem to go out every 60-70 thousand miles.

I'm at about 85K, and it is still running well. I use my Versa as a commuter car, so I don't really push it (and obviously I change the fluid regularly). I know there have been many complaints about this CVT transmission

Strange video, the most important things are not clearly shown. This certainly applies to the dipstick (which was hidden by your arm), the brand of transmission oil (which you never showed), and where the funnel tip was plugged in (which was not shown at all). This video misses out on the most important stuff. Would you redo it with a clear indication of where the important items are located? Thanks

I didn't, since my fluid does not leak, I just replaced it with the same amount that came out.

There is only 1 drain plug. Locate your transmission cover on the driver's side underside of the car. The plug is on the front part of the cover.

This video failed to explain the following: 1. The type of fluid 2. Capacity 3. Is it a drain or overflow plug or both 4. Type of transmission auto, man, or CVT? 5. Torque 6. Cost 7. Order of disassembly 8. Milage change cycle Answers: 1. Nissan CVT fluid NS-3 only (For CVT transmissions only) 2. 7- 1/4 quarts for 2011 and later (the title states 2014) 3. Overflow plug (2012 and later only has an overflow plug) This is why you only removed a small amount and not the full 7.875 quarts. 4. I chose CVT (I can give specs. for the other transmissions if needed or you can buy the Haynes manual and look at chapter 1-1 and 1-2) 5. 31 in-lbs. 6. ≈ $80 7. Haynes manual explains full disassembly of ducting for air, the battery, coolant reservoir and anything thing blocking access to the fill port. 8. The manufacturer recommends 60,000 miles/48 months but if you don't want your cvt transmission taking a CRAP on you ignore that recommendation and change it every 30,000 miles/24 months. Because a guy did this with a CVT transmission and found out that it lasts longer when done this way and he didn't have to buy a $5000 transmission like all of the other suckers in the class action lawsuit against Nissan for their CVT transmissions failing. 9. For all of the new DIY'ers buy a Chilton, Haynes, or Manufacturer repair manual for your car because details matter. You spent thousands why not get a manual and make sure you do it the precise way?

fortunately your wrong. when you drain it its not actually drain it all. the drain has a special tools by nissan can drain it all. for u. you have to open the hole pan to drain it all and its actually more than 2 qort

Yeah, to do it properly you got to go to dealership and pay over $300 in US. That’s a lot for such a car. In my opinion it’s better to do at least partial replacement and more often than do not do it at all.

For a woman that has nothing to do with cars much and has always had a dad around till he died to do things, your video was absolutely useless. You should have shown from the beginning and edited it so it cut out all of this walking around and you know you could have had the bucket next to you etc etc. All I wish to find out is where in the world is the dipstick to check the transmission fluid. I can't seem to find that out. It happened once someone found it and I know it's out of the way but your engine looks different
