My 2014 Silverado wasn't so easy....I ended up having to drop the cross member for clearance,and cut off some unused threaded tabs on the replacement starter...but your video was still helpful...thank you...

THANK YOU!!! Your video is straight to the point and encouraged me to do the job myself. I was a bit apprehensive to tackle this job and after getting a quote from a local mechanic of $800+ to do it, I did a quick KZfaq search, and I was glad I came across your video. I did do a mistake and put the wheel well back on before testing the new starter... I know, rookie mistake but one that I hope others learn from. Just like you I broke the red retaining clip and thought it was snug enough when I put it back on. When I tried to start the truck it was not clicking at all... Had to take the wheel well back off and discovered that the plug was not as snug as I had thought... I am trying to get it more secured but now it works better than before. Thank you again for a great video!

That 2014 starter looks a lot easier then the one on my 2002 Sierra 5.3. They didn’t leave any slack in the wires, so you had to remove the wires by feel. Took me over a hour to change that starter. I routed the wires different to the new one, letting the wires hang off the back of the starter, instead of how the factory wrapped the wires around the sides of the starter. Doing that, I was able to connect the wires before bolting in the starter. Luckily the heat shield was easy to put back on. Just snaps on top of the solenoid on the 99-06 trucks.

Thanks! Just a heads up that the 4.3L V6 is a ridiculously tight squeeze. Save yourself the trouble and take off the tire, side covering, loosen the sway bar, unclip transmission coolant lines, remove skid plate and bend any heat shields out of the way. I had a heck of a time rotating the starter int position. Whole thing Took about 5hrs. I would not have wanted to do this in a parking lot somewhere, it took ALOT of finesse and cursing.

I'll be doing it on my 4.3 today 😢
@francisgantos4669 Жыл бұрын
@@abrahamreyes3340 Good luck! I got to a point where it was almost lined up but I had to force it past the flywheel cover from the wheel well side with a small pry bar. I was using the Ultima starter from Oreilly. I believe that if I had the right set up removing the frame member would have made it a lot easier. The OEM came out with moderate finesse but I believe the Ultima is ever so slightly larger and was very different to manipulate. Let us know how it went for you in the comments. I don’t see a lot of comments from people working on the v6’s.

Ive been trying to change a starter on a 2014 4.3 for 2 days now. Only has 41k. The outer bolt came out easily by hand. The inner bolt wont budge. Ive sprayed it with a while can of kroil, pounded it with a hammer for hours, Blasted it with 3 impacts guns, tried to rock it loose with a pipe on a braker bar and it started to round off. Lol about to loose it. I have worked on absoluterust bucket jalopies for years never thought 1 bolt on somthing this new with this low of mileage would have me raging elmo fire for 2 days. Unbelievable...
