Hey Man. I am strongly considering a Q50 Hybrid AWD. What is your average mpg? How many miles do you get on a tank of gas?

Avg so far is 26.3. I've had the car for about 2 weeks. I don't have the AWD, just RWD. I would imagine the mpg of the AWD will be slightly less. The range of the vehicle is good. It holds around 20 US gal and est. max range is 450 or so. Of course, this varies with how you drive.

Once I figured out how to maximize the EV mode, I started regularly getting 30-31. With AWD. Before that, I was usually at 27-28. What I noticed is that if you drive normally 100% of the time, it never uses the electric motor / battery. This car actually encourages you to gun it a little from the stoplight. Maybe not floor it, but that's how it uses the batt - when most cars would downshift for acceleration, the Q50H will stay in highest gear and kick in the electric motor. If you want to drive 45mph with a 75% + battery charge, I accelerate aggressively up to ~52, let it slip into EV mode and turn the engine off. Then let the car coast and try to maintain ~45mph as long as possible. It's a small battery so it doesnt last forever. Coming down mountains you can just coast for ages though - until that idiot in the F150 is sitting in the left lane blocking traffic. Sharp DAS handling has no problem barrelling down Cascades or Rockies at 85mph+ with the engine off for several miles at a time. Gas mileage will increase significantly doing this. If you're doing highway, you can ride the hills 75-89 and still get 34mpg. The car will not go into EV above 90mph. Accelerate up the hill using the elec motor. Coast down the hill in EV - car will lose speed, 65hp isn't enough to maintain it. I alternate between doing that and just turning everything on (cruise, lane assist, etc.) and taking a break... still get ~31mpg on cross-country trips. If I just set the cruise to 84 and leave it... I get 26.x mpg. I'd love to see them double the batt size and increase the elec motor to ~110hp so it could better sustain EV mode at highway speeds. Plus... why not add that much more torque and hp on top? The VQ35 is a beast.

10 grand that was a joke. Battery replacement is around $1,500ish. The good part is that factory battery warranty has 7 years or 100,000 miles, I would suggest buying a 2015 model or later - that would get you covered for at least 2 years. You can always purchase extended warranty is you want.

I hear you on that, but not sure how they could do it unless they were to bump up the electric side - find room to stuff a larger than 1.4-kwh battery and possibly bigger than 67-hp electric motor. As you probably know, the electric motor is how mpg is improved as it spares the gas engine under normal operation (not full acceleration) from using as much gas. The mission statement for this car is otherwise to be the flagship of Q50s, so slowing it down to make it more fuel efficient would not be an option for Infiniti. ... So, it needs more electric energy storage really, so the motor can work more than it does. As it is, the size of battery that it has is about average for non-plug-in hybrids ... so it ii what it is. Every car is a series of engineering compromises. MPG is decent for a 360-hp car that has done the quarter in 13.6 seconds.

You're comparing apples to oranges here. You are bringing economy cars to the table to compare with a performance sedan. This is made for performance first, not great gas mileage. Has 367 HP and has hit 60 MPH in less than 5 seconds. Also, I do own one of these and it's can be surprisingly economical for it's performance. Mine averages 29.4 MPG and that is with me often running sport mode and getting on it a fair amount. In eco mode and me actually driving it economically it has held a solid 35-36 MPG. It is not that bad for the performance it gives.

That's actually not true with all the batteries around $1,500 and that's with installation. I have a 2014 hybrid and it is a beast of a car as well as beautiful Don't let that stop you
