Great video. Nissan wanted about $500 to change my oil. Don't have the quote close so I don't have the exact amount. They were not changing the inner filter just back flushing through the cooling lines with new fluid to clean the filter. This video saved me a lot of money.

Heads up to any DIYers doing this yourself. The latest transmission strainer (larger silver filter behind the pan) (13.3 min) is now a "D" revision as can be seen at the end of the part number, 31728-29X0D. I also had to buy a new bracket part number, 310693-VXD. This only done once, unless of course, Nissan goes to an "E" revision. I found this out the hard way after ordering all of the parts and dropping the pan. I then had to scour the earth for the new bracket and drive a couple of hours to get it. Hope this saves someone some serious time and frustration.

@getdirtywithvern glad to help. For anyone wondering, the new filter has 2 bolt holes instead of 3. The back bolt on the old filter (towards rear of car) mounts to a small removable bracket. I had to remove this small "A" revision bracket to make room for the "D" revision filter. I reinstalled the 2 small small screws without the bracket. Also installed the long bolt from filter "A" back into the transmission. It will be behind the new revision "D" filter after installing it. The new bracket I mentioned in my first post above is a new replacement for the small bracket that has a small sensor zip tied to it. The new bracket is almost identical but is thicker where the new revision "D" filter will attach. I reused all of the bolts removed to mount the new bracket and filter. On the other corner of the filter you will see where a transmission bolt is removed to reinstalled through the new filter.

It’s no joke how easy it is to strip a pan bolt. I stripped four when I serviced my Jeep Compass’s transmission. Tapped them out with 1/4 20 tap and installed 1/4 20 bolts. Easy peasy

Hey Vern ,great video, used it to do my service on my 2015 . Question, I have seen multiple videos , posts stating to only check to overflow when fluid temp between 95 and 115 . Your video, you state operation temp to flow check valves then go right to overflow. Can you or someone else on here set me clear on this . To me operating temp would make more sense for level check , but??

Vern, this video was very helpful so thank you. I just have one question about the refilling process. I've read that the CVT fluid should be between 95 and 115 degrees before you open the overflow plug. Do you know if this is necessary or can you just get the engine up to normal operating temp and then do your gear shift procedure like you displayed? If the temp does have to be exact, would you use something like the Veepeak ODBCheck tool to verify CVT fluid temp?

Very productive video! Could you please let me know where to order the transmission filter that is inside the pan? I got the yellow one but was not able to find the inner one. Also, they say it is a sealed transmission, will it cause any damage if we open it? I am having a 2015 Nissan Murano Platinum AWD.
@getdirtywithvern
@getdirtywithvern Жыл бұрын
I believe this is the part you are looking for: www.nissanpartsdeal.com/parts/nissan-strainer-assy-oil~31728-29x0d.html The AWD version should be the same as FWD CVT transmission. If your Transmission pan has bolts around it then it is not a sealed trans and the pan can be removed for service. Good luck with your project!

I believe it was 10.8 quarts but double check it before you do the service to make sure you don't buy too much, because it's expensive, but make sure you have enough because stopping the work to drive to the auto store to get more is a pita.

My stepdaughter has a 2018 Murano. Regarding the external transmission cooler filter, I figured out a way to loosen the recessed fourth bolt, but before i removed it I was trying to figure out a way to get the bolt back into the hole. Is there some trick to getting the bolt back into its hole.
@getdirtywithvern
@getdirtywithvern Жыл бұрын
You might try placing a small magnet inside the socket to hold the bolt to place it in the hole. (Harbor Freight Tools sells small rear earth magnets that may fit). Make sure all other bolts are loose first before attempting to start this bolt in its threads. Good luck!

@@dissturbbed I replaced the internal metal pickup screen/filter with a new one in this video. The external filter on the side of the trans, I had replaced earlier but had no footage of that so I only referred to the filter change in the video. I did change it though. You are right to question; they should always be changed.

Is changing out the whole pan part of servicing or can you just change the fluid and filter?
@getdirtywithvern
@getdirtywithvern 6 ай бұрын
You will need to remove the pan to replace the screen filter. You can often reuse the factory pan gasket though. Removing the pan is important in assessing the amount of metal shavings in it as well. The fluid is expensive so do it right once.

Hi... My Murano starts with no problem. Wehn I shift to D reach 2,000 RPM and don't move forward. In Reverse function normally.
@getdirtywithvern
@getdirtywithvern Жыл бұрын
Much will depend on the miles and how your Murano transmission was maintained. Excerpt: "If a Nissan vehicle is experiencing transmission issues such as not shifting, showing power loss, not engaging, and not moving when the transmission is set in Drive, it is likely caused by a problem with the transmission control module or the transmission valve body. These issues can also be accompanied by the check engine light and a transmission error message displayed on the instrument cluster. Other common causes of this problem include low transmission fluid levels, faulty sensors or solenoids, and internal transmission damage. To diagnose the specific cause of these symptoms, it is important to perform a thorough diagnostic scan of the transmission control module, check the transmission fluid levels, and inspect the transmission for any visible damage or wear. In some cases, the transmission may need to be rebuilt or replaced."

Having the car level is not Mandatory. From all the videos I watch about my car fluid change they all had it on 4s/lifts and they all got out 3 1/2 Quarts a bit less give or take. My car was on the front 2 only and guess what same amount of fluid came out a couple of drops different give or take, this is not a heart surgery on a human don't over complicate things. (This is for the viewers not for you gentlemen on the video(: ) but to each their own, peace out. I used amsoil signature series and gave me quicker acceleration going up the ramp to merge in with less throttle on eco mode lol really noticeable I was like what the hell aha and before the procedure my mpg was at 35 and after I was done and car idling for 11 minutes on a hot day burning fuel took it for a drive to the same spot where I do my tests and I wasn't even paying attention but when I arrived I looked at my mpg and instead of going down or staying on the sameish number went up from 35 to 41 lmao 🤣 I know I'm not supposed too but I do experiments on my car barely hit 30k and already 2 transmissions fluid changes apparently my transmission loved it ❤️ 2022 camry awd version, toyota claims 24 city and 34 highway, not for me though 😉

I believe the 2015 was a new generation. The CVT transmissions are nearly identical but the strainer assembly inside the pan is slightly different if memory serves. You will need the small yellow filter on the side of the trans and the strainer assembly for inside the pan. Check with nissanpartsdeal.com for the correct fitting parts.

Reasonable advice if your trans has an external cooler added or you live in a cooler climate. In hotter climates these CVT transmissions fail long before that 100K mile mark.
