using this video as guide. i was able to successfully change the small transmission filter & change the ATF of an ASX 2015. though for the ASX 2015, you still need to remove the crossmember and front engine mount in order to gain access to small transmission filter. took me 4.5 quarts to replace the ATF. thanks mate!

I think you have a CVT instead of ATF. Double check and use the correct fluid. CVT is thicker I believe. There are some fluids that claim they can be used for both ATF and CVT but I wouldn't chance it.

I have a '15 Outlander Sport (USA), 4b12 +4wd, so the small filter is in a different spot, but this gave me the idea of how to get it done. I've been quoted between $700 to $1100 here for this level of work. You just saved me a ton of cash.

How'd you get it off? I have a '15 outlander sport too, but my filter bumps into the engine mount, making it impossible to remove!
@oic1652 ай бұрын
You're gonna have to pull the motor mount. There are facebook groups, and videos on YT to help you out. I tried to link you to it, but stupid YT comment policies won't let me. Pulling the mount isn't hard from what I've seen, just more work. Order some crush washers as well for the drain plugs.
@oic1652 ай бұрын
Wait a tick, you said yours was a 2015, AWD? It might be under the battery actually, that's where mine was. I believe some time in 2016 or 2017 is when they moved it to behind the motor mount. Under the batter bracing, you'll see a similar looking cylinder, 4 bolts, two tubes running out of it. You'll have to pull the battery, and remove the air vent/tunnel, then remove the bracing. There are bolts underneath the bracing too, 10mm. I'd highly recommend have a finger ratchet to help you get those off, with extensions, *after you break them lose. Your fingers will thank you. Harbor Freight ftw.

I bought an Outlander Sport (RVR in Canada) a few days ago and I appreciate this video 100%. It's my line of thinking that people who are having issues with these JATCO transmissions have only done the fluid flush, and have not replaced the filters, or cleaned off any residue. Better yet, some may have replaced the filter in the pan, but have not replaced the transmission cooler filter as seen in your video. I'm of the opinion that if this filter is missed, the fluid will essentially get clogged within the filter crevices and eventually cause starvation of the transmission due to restricted flow within either of the filters. Anyway, I appreciate this video, and when the time comes, I will circle back and follow this as closely as I can. Thank you!

I am about to do the trans service along with serpentine belt, tensioner, idler pullies, NGK coils and plugs, and ceramic brake pads. My Outlander Sport just hit 75k miles and I am really happy with it. I think its a wonderful little SUV that has everything you want and none of what you dont. 4x4, backup camera, 30 miles to the gallon, 12" Rockford Fosgate sub woofer, leather, nice wheels, glass roof, and a great price point!

Very well explained video!! I think this is the key for these transmission to last a bit longer. I did this on my niece's RVR couple of years ago. They parts guy at the dealer was surprised to see that the side filter was available. I bet not even the dealer replaces that filter. On the RVR (2011) the filter is on the other side at the top and a bit more difficult to replace. I also replace the bottom strainer and agree with you, that most likely can be cleaned and put back. Great thorough upload. How often do each of the filters need changing? I took my '17 to the Mitsubishi dealership for cvt fluid service which they used a machine to extract all fluids via cooler line but no mention of filters on the invoices. This was at 30k
@aheindustries2 жыл бұрын
Hi mate, the service manual recommended the first fluid change at 90k which i think is pushing it a little too long anyway. No mention of filters either so I doubt the dealers would even change them!
@fixitfelix7182 жыл бұрын
So usually the first 30 k is drain and fill...the secondary service afterwards is supposed to be everything...i dont trust dealers anyway..this is how to realllly do it
@TheRecordButton2 жыл бұрын
I believe the manual states every 30,000 miles for a fluid change. With a 2x drain and fill at intervals to get the most exchange out. The other way is to send it to the dealer for a $330 complete fluid exchange via their machine which gets all 7 quarts out. If you're using J4 from the dealer you'll need 9 quarts total for two drain and fills of 4.2 quarts. $20/quart you might start to consider the dealer's method of fluid exchange as it guarantees all fluid is replaced.

For those of you with Mitsubishi ASX/RVR/Outlander Sport. The cooler filter is separate from the transmission. It’s located under the battery. The ASX/RVR uses the Lancer design including the old (but reliable) JF011E CVT design. The 2.4L Outlander CVT uses JATCO’s CVT-8, I believe, until the newly redesigned 2022 model year which uses the newest CVT-X model, which might explain why the filter is actually on the transmission. It appears the filter might be the same filter, but location is dependent on which CVT your vehicle has for sure.
