It's art. "Strange" shows like this, if done well, usually have a higher chance of winning than something more generic. Like, say, Kinetic Noise. I loved that show (it's in my top 5 favorite shows), but it wasn't all that special artistically.

Honestly though, BD's use of Trombones and the entire Ballad were my favorite parts of this show. That might go against the "Drum Corps Elitists" but it was incredibly innovative.

I dont really care for the beginning part, but from 1:04 might be my favorite part of the show. The juxtaposition between the strict timing (both playing and marching) of the main hornline with the imprecise and rough trombone glissandos is so cool. I understand that some people don't like the use of trombones, but I think when used well (also see SCV 2014 and Crown 2018) they add a unique tone that you just can't get with a traditional hornline.

@@xlea4497 the drill is mainly stationed in front of the prop walls and they ar rousted forward so you’re looking at the front of the field which makes them look really big while marching

Colin Armstrong it's not just that. I'm not denying the talent that BD has, but they have had fovorability with the judges quite a bit over the years. They deserve a lot of the championships they got, but they don't deserve all 17 of them. They also did not deserve to have as high of a score they got in 2014, yes Fillenesque deserved to win but it did not deserve a 99.65.

Ethan Akrie they deserve every championship they've ever won. the judges don't sit down and say who should win. they each judge they're own individual captions and BD has managed to be so consistent in every caption that they end up winning the whole thing more often than not. Bluecoats finally won because not a single caption was below third place(maybe not even below second?) not because the judges all thought they deserved it. the on the field music judge doesn't know what the visual judge in the box is gonna give the corp.

Anybody else remember that this is the year that the Bluedevils and the Cadets made a legit TV show depicting their "rivalry" and at finals both corps were talking shit but at the end neither of them won and less than 2 weeks later they both tried deleting all the footage from the show from their channels

An interesting take on a classic piece of literature, continuing the trend they started in 2014 of reinterpreting media other than music and bringing it to the field. While I miss the balls to the wall post modernism of BD 2008-2013, I think this is the result of BD trying to do something that panders a bit more to the uninvolved drum corps fan. Can't say I blame them and I'm glad they're still out there being the only group that comes close to creating art.

Keegan McLean that show got way too much hype and was nowhere near the caliber of the 2002 Cavies or 2005 Cadets. Did it deserve first? Yes, but a 99.65? Probably not.

Ben Katz it’s so awkwardly bad and super cringe-worthy. Like, what are the members supposed to be doing? They look like puppets that have absolutely no idea what dancing actually is. It drives me insane. Luckily they go right into a pretty neat part afterwards.

Hey DCI, do yourselves a collective favor, no more canned music, no more BAND instruments, put a very strict limit on props, no more orchestral instruments, etc. You’ve destroyed what drum corps means. Drum corps is no longer “different”; rather, it’s just high school/college marching band on steroids. And, before it starts, do NOT say the “kids work real hard” because that is a non sequitur. These things will save a ton of money, and perhaps more corps will be a result. Today’s “championship” is a championship of only a handful of corps, and that’s like being the champion of a children’s kickball league.

Drum corp is professional and has no affiliation with high schools. However there are some amazing high school marching bands like Hebron highschool and vandergrift highschool
