This is a Round 2 game from the 2016 Candidates Chess Tournament between Sergey Karjakin and Hikaru Nakamura. What is at stake in this tournament besides a big purse? Well, the winner of this lengthy 14 round event will earn a ticket to challenge the current World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen in November at the 2016 World Chess Championship match which will be held in New York, United States. We see a couple opening finesses in this positional struggle out of the Queen's Indian Defense. Would it be Karjakin or Nakamura who would be better positioned for the structural change in the middlegame? Moreover, would it be Karjakin, or Nakamura who calculates better when the position sharpens and tactical opportunities become more of a possibility?

+Shahreezal thanks shahreezal! been watching GM King for a long time now too. I just find the two analysis are a bit different. King manages to encapsulate the feelings of the game into a story, with analysis of course, but I feel he focusses less on specific reasons of moved a beginner may miss, and describe the situation as "good for x". I enjoy that, it's interesting seeing how different high ranking players react to positions. I feel Jerry goes deep into why the players play their move. going into more detail about what makes the situation positive, dangerous, or opportunistic with clear examples and reasoning. Both great. agree with your recommendation :)

+ChessNetwork yeah Jerry! i've been watching your videos for about a year, and have seen almost all of them (between this and a second account). I've learned so much through them, and you keep making them better through your calm explanations, well planned analysis, and subtle humor :) a few chess channels have been popping up and growing, which i love! i'll take anything that broadens and betters the chess community. however, your videos are my favorite! thanks again for the incredible content!

Hello Jerry, great coverage as usual, I think that some lines that will be played on the ruy lopez, specially in this kind of tournament where d3 has become a popular dynamic choice would be of great interest since it provides analysis in numerous fronts, tactics, openings, some positional play and even the endings that the players, black in particular, can obtain as well. I wonder what is your take on that.
@ChessNetwork
@ChessNetwork 8 жыл бұрын
+Martim Hernandez I'm a fan of the Ruy. I've covered many games where that opening was played. I'm personally a fan of the d3 system. It certainly can bring a lot of chess to the table in many ways as you have mentioned. I like it over the queenless middlegame variation for sure.

Why black didn't go with the less committal moves, the exchanges on d4, prior to the Nxg3? I mean, it would require less calculations to see that it was not working. Very nice commentary as usual, thanks Jerry!

It's awesome that Karjakin has continued his recent trend of playing openings that are not 1. e4. This is the guy who spent over a decade never moving anything but 1. e4 as white (in blitz he'd occasionally play a 1. d4 but it was rare). Suddenly, he's throwing out d4, c4, b3, Nf3 and he's scoring well with them.

@ChessNetwork
@ChessNetwork 8 жыл бұрын
+Baxter Brown It's played at the top level, it's clearly objectively strong. If you understand the ideas behind it, yeah sure go for it, but don't just play the moves because top players play them. Be certain to understand the ideas behind the moves.
@alachabre

Nakamura played this opening into a win at the 2015 FIDE World Cup, v. Richmond Phiri (2252). The 4...Ba6 move is most played (according to chessgames.com), and your explanation of the strategy behind it is most excellent.

@realdizzle87
@realdizzle87 8 жыл бұрын
+Jan Gronwald No, no, NOOOO... 'jackin' is a slang form of 'jacking,' just excluding the 'g'. 'Jacking' is the present participle of the verb 'to jack'. Thereby, utilizing your logic would insinuate that the subject is the actor or, in this particular case: the 'jacker... not the jack-ee. As such the grammatically appropriate joke would be to say: "Why does Sergey Karjakin always have a ride?" *dramatic pause* "'cause he's always jakin kars..." *rofl*

+Adam Badar Hi Adam, I saw that move as well, but I think you're not gaining much.. You can see that the black knight attacks the queen, and now the knight and the bishop aims for g7, but it is defended by the knight on e6.. so the queen can just move to g5 and attack the knight back or simply retreat to other square and at the end the black knight will be a kind of misplaced and undefended in f5. What do you think? Sorry for my english :P

Naka and Anand cant beat Carlsen, Anand for some reason likes to play passivly against Carlsen and Naka well some tactical mistakes here and there. Giri is great player, but sometimes he plays a little risky. Will see what happens, but I hope the best player does indeed face Carlsen.
