I own a manual 1.0 ecoboost 4 door sedan here in South Africa bought mine during a special only paid R190 000 which is about $12,600 US fantastic value for a brand new 2016 vehicle of this size and spec. 1.0 ecoboost is brilliant im averaging 33mpg and i drive like a bit of a chop haha best consumption so far on a long highway trip is 47mpg.

Traded my 2015 Focus SE (almost 1 year of ownership) for a 2016 Titanium, CONSTANT pull to the left nobody has been able to resolve (even bought new wheels and tires). intermittent hesitation when accelerating. Leather is nice but would not buy or recommend a Focus... Seems like this on was built on a Monday...

I get 40mpg on the highway in my 2.0l focus without breaking a sweat, and that's with the damn 5 speed manual that has a pretty low 5th gear. if Ford would just stop holding the 2.0 back and give it a 6 speed I wonder what the fuel economy difference would be in these two cars

Its very strange considering the normal 2.0 makes 39mpg factory (I've done better and worse in mine) and the same in the city but with a lot more power, maybe just because they sell it in europe its easy to offer it here to up there overall fleet mpg, even if nobody buys it

I own a 2016 Ford Focus 1.0L ecoboost I will say that it's not fast, but if you're buying this car you're not buying it to go fast. you're buying it to get really good gas mileage. I currently get 40-50 mpg on the highway(in florida), 30-40 highway(in PA), 25-35 mpg city (Florida), 20-30 mpg city(PA since my commute is up a hill). I can do 0-60 in about 8 seconds (A/C off). it's very nice only spending $20 a month on gas. If it's a warm day I can do about 40 mph around any turn (including U-turns) the tires are super gripy. It's faster off the line than a Camaro.

The regular 2 liter in the standard Focus and the turbo 2 liter found in the ST look great, but I don't really see the point of this motorcycle sized engine in a 3000 pound car. The fuel economy isn't much better than the 2 liter. Not enough so to put up with zero offensive driving capability. It feels like the development of the 1 liter was a step backwards really. You're not saving gas if you have to beat the hell out of the engine to make a pass. To get acceptable acceleration from a stop as you would in the 2 liter, the 1 liter likely has a tiny turbo suited for low rpm in order to muster the torque required to move. That can work, but what about when you're already at speed on the highway and want to make a pass? The tiny turbo won't cut it then. Paying extra for a marginal leap in efficiency with a steep drop in performance and practicality.
@WaffleDogz080196
@WaffleDogz080196 7 жыл бұрын
Bear McGoat that makes sense then if that engine was built for emissions. I'm surprised it was sold in the States. In California where I'm from, I just can't see it making it on the highways out here. I drive the 2 liter Zetec back from 2000. It only has a few more horses than the 1.0 turbo, but it has the displacement for torque off the line (80% torque available off idle) so top end is still available for passes.

Good review. His speaking has improved since I last watched a video of his over a year ago. I don't know if some people here are calling him names like 'lispy mcgee' to be funny, but it's an awfully rude thing to say. I mostly feel pity for those people, that they feel the need to make fun of somebody's speech impediment. It's not like he is doing it on purpose. If you don't like this guy, just move onto another video. There's no need to be a dick, but I guess that's just how youtube is sometimes.

While I like this 1.0 L EcoBoost in the Fiesta SFE because its still gives decent performance while delivering 36 mpg combined, this same engine seems to be a bit underwhelming in the Focus. With around 300 lb extra to move, I can't see why anyone would choose the 1.0 L turbocharged Focus over the Fiesta unless the additional size were needed. The fuel economy in the Focus 1.0L is a bit worse as well, at 35 mpg combined. The 1.0L EcoBoost option adds $795 to the price of a Focus. The standard Focus with the 2.0L is rated at 31 mpg combined, while the 1.0L turbo is 35 mpg combined. A back-of-the-napkin calculation shows that it would take about 90,000 miles to recover your upgrade cost, assuming the cost of gasoline at $3/gal. This could be attractive to those who plan to keep their car for a while. Or you could just go with the Mazda 3, which is rated at 34 mpg combined, and you may actually enjoy yourself while driving.

I disagree with saying its underpowered, its not underpowered. It will easily accelerate up a moderate hill and remains responsive. Its obviously not the most powerful acceleration in the world but underpowered is not a fair comment in my opinion. I once drove a citoren that with just the driver you had to have the pedal on the floor on a medium incline just to maintain 60mph and with just one passenger, more often than not you needed to change down a gear just to not lose speed, that to me is underpowered and this car is not like that at all.

It's really designed for Europe where Co2 emissions are more strictly regulated. Small turbocharged engines emit less Co2 than larger NA ones, and here in the UK it makes the annual tax bill a lot cheaper. For instance, the 1.0 ecoboost Focus here costs £20 a year to tax, whereas the 1.6 is slower due to less torque and costs £145 a year to tax.

@kc5077
@kc5077 8 жыл бұрын
In general manual transmissions are lighter and don't lose as much energy as an automatic. Gears and ratios play a huge part. Example 8 speed auto is better than a 6 speed manual which is better than a 4 speed auto for efficiency. Hope that helps.
@artoohafling6512
@artoohafling6512 8 жыл бұрын
manual transmissions are usually more efficient because of driver ability. the more you drive a car the better you become at knowing what the car needs to do what it is your doing. Also when an automatic is changing gears it is spinning a huge jug of fluid while the engine is still working when a manual transmission you let off the gas.

Automatic transmissions are far more complicated, harbor many more moving parts, and therefore sap much more energy lost to friction, fluid resistance (as mentioned by Artoo), and heat.

The biggest forte of Fords 1.0 engine is not just mpg, its COx emissions, it makes just under 110 g/km of COx which means an energy impact of just 4 barrels of oil annually or its the greenest petrol compact sedan Since USA is blind on green credentials Ford cannot advertise it as much as they wud like Same is the case with the 3.5 and 2.7, 2.0,2.3 and 1.5 EBs all have more than 1 purpose mpg+ emissions, sadly 90+% of US people give shit about air, but Ford as a brand is committed to a green line up Well done Ford

absolutely. I've got one and this is a great engine. Plenty of power. This engine was built for me.

built for grandmas... are you sure you have a 1.0? because the one time we got one into the shop it felt like a 4 cyl from the 80's (in terms of power)

Why would you need more than 123hp in something like a Focus? This is a small economical family car, designed to transport 4 or even 5 people in relative comfort from point A to point B without using up too much fuel. Sure, the concept is boring as hell but it works well enough
