I'm not excited to drive it. I don't stare at it after I park it. I'm completely indifferent about it. It serves a function like a refrigerator or washing machine. I'm 50 years old. I've had many cars over the years including several V8 Camaros and trucks. Sure they were more thrilling, but I'm too old to work on crap anymore. I just need something that works. I've had no repairs on this car as of yet, just fluid changes, fuel system cleaning, and a battery in almost 5 years. It is what it is. A very reliable appliance, and for that I'm thankful.

I own a 2015 Kia Soul base (1.6L with automatic transmission), has 267k miles on it. bought it with 203k miles. it was a gamble for sure but pretty reliable so far under my ownership except for having the front catalytic converter replaced which was 100% covered by Kia corporate anyway. The seats are comfortable. I can drive it 500 miles and no complaints except for feeling kind of tired out compared to driving a more upper scale car like a 2013 Ford Taurus. It's an economy car after all so I can't complain too much. I enjoy the way it handles but the ride is pretty stiff more so than the 2005 Toyota Corolla I had (Corolla is the most comfortable economy car for taking bumps/cracks in the road from my experience). I'm 6'3" and the Corolla's steering wheel position was too awkward and close to the dashboard to continue driving it, too uncomfortable like most economy cars especially anything Toyota/Scion and Honda. Kia Soul has to do for now with its awesome interior ergonomics. Awesome interior ergonomics design is by Peter Schreyer; a designer for Volkswagen/Audi group that works for Hyundai/Kia.

I bought a 2nd gen 2014 Kia soul 1.6L 6spd auto. It's pretty much as you described. It does nothing so well that it's noteworthy. It also doesn't suck over anything too bad either (except power maybe). I think it does everything I need very "good enough". It's almost a quality in it's own, having so many areas that are ok. Decent size, decent mpg, decent maintenance costs, decent price tag for what you get and decent safety. I think it's the best choice for what I'm looking for weighed against upfront/maintenance costs. That being said, it's sluggish, really plastic heavy and not too pretty. A solid 6/10 Edit: I forgot to mention it's a GDI engine so expect more carbon deposit buildup or give it a little extra care.

My mom bought a 2015 Kia Soul and it was bright red. The funny thing about it in 2015 these cars were considered odd especially with the boxy design and the fact she got it in this bright cherry red made it so that EVERYBODY knew my mom was driving it. I was made fun of for it but in all honesty I quite liked it. Going on road trips in it was fun. We could pack it up SO easily and get it all out in one go. We literally helped my mom fully move in 2 trips with it unbelievably. I also learned to drive in it. It was automatic and had the bells and whistles. It had sport mode and Bluetooth and I honestly enjoyed driving it when I was learning. The sport was quick but not over the top and the steering felt good even though it was the only car I drove at the time. But you are right RCR in a weird way it is also a soulless car, the only thing that gave it the “soul” were the judgments of the people around it. Some thought it was overly sporty when it wasn’t at all close to it and some believed it was overly economical when it also wasn’t.

@@danboah2501 I understand you, but what I heard from Mr.Regular is that all americans with average income can allow themselves now, in credit, is a HUGE pickup truck! In comparison, russian with average income can almost only get a Volkswagen Polo or "special for Russia" Kia Rio. You know what's "special" in it? It's just last generation Rio with slightly changed optics, because Huyndai and Kia sees that the most of russians with average income can't allow it to buy a new generation. Every year our prices go up, ruble is unstable and range of vehicles you can buy without grey import is less now. But I guess at least we don't have a crazy SJW people who learn you how to live and who you should respect and stand on knees for them. We even got a criminal article for propaganda of unconventional values... Hm, now I guess everything is not losted in our oddball country.

@@mushijian7839 this is somewhat true! I'm from America, there's a lot people with middle class jobs out where I live tend to take ridiculous amounts of debt out on unpractical huge trucks they don't need, they often THINK they can afford it, but it ends up being the reason they can't send their kids to Univerisity. I drive a 2010 Nissan Cube thats in great condition, and even when I have a better paying job, I don't want a car bigger than I really need. Many of the older Americans are wasteful, whereas us younger folks (especially working while in school and starting a business) tend to live more practically. Some Americans like to act rich and drive big cars, but to be honest it's a façade. They aren't happy. They're just appearing to be.

Ya know, getting that itch is probably because you're goin' in too dry with that toilet paper and then wipe too hard. You're gonna want to pat that butthole with damp toilet paper. That’s the upside of being such a boring car: you never get into a fight with it, even over the little stuff like air filter latches (that just snap closed with minimal effort). Because a fight of any kind would be exciting.

I just bought a 2021 Kia Soul GT-Line (non-turbo) and I thoroughly enjoy it. It's the version it should have been from the get go. The 2020 redesign is now great. The GT-Line adds a monochromatic look in Neptune Blue that makes it pop. The seats are comfortable and supportive, and it doesn't have the ridiculous piano black trim all over like the EX and Turbo (formerly GT-Line Turbo). The back of the car now looks more modern and stylish. I never thought much about the Soul one way or the other, but I saw my car's identical twin in the showroom and I couldn't believe what I was looking at. I never thought a Soul could be beautiful, but mine is. It still has an avaibke 6MT in the base model, but who would ever want a base model? The next-step-up "S" model is only a little more and adds the needed features like all the safety tech and cruise control not offered on the base model. My car isn't perfect. I do wish it had push button start (even a base Nissan Versa has that) and a couple minor things, but for $22,900 you get a lot including a sunroof. Even if the manual is better now, and it might be in 2021, it's not really a car I'd enjoy a stick shift in anyhow. I had a 6MT in my 2015 Renegade Latitudes, and the 1.4L Turbo-4 wasn't up to the task of making the experience fun, so it didn't bother me to not have manual in my new Soul. It's just not that kind of car.

I have decided in this moment it's better to cheer on people that are happy in crossovers and other "npc cars" than to make fun. Enjoying the mundane is a lost art and a sign of maturity.

You'd, unfortunately, be disappointed in the newest Soul with a manual transmission. The IVT transmission has a hiccup, so just beware. Some people have luck, some don't. It seems like reliability is a hit or miss for anything these days. Even Toyota's.
