2016 Nissan Pulsar. Full review at www.redferret.net . The Pulsar Tekna as tested features an 1197cc petrol engine delivering 85PS, with a 6 speed manual transmission, a 0-62 mph speed of 10.7 seconds, and a combined fuel consumption 56.5 mpg. All wrapped up in a comfortable 5 seater hatchback format. It also comes with a roomy 492 kg payload in the rear, which is more than enough to cope with a full family trip with all the gear.
In fact it's the overall practicality of the car which is the first thing you notice. It's not flashy in any way, nor does it come with any standout gimmicks, but what it does do, is deliver that much sought after 'fuss-free motoring' so beloved of the pundits. It's quiet, smooth and refined in general use, and perfect for the real world needs of a family transport.
Nor does it disappoint inside. The rear has an impressive amount of leg-room, even with the front seats comfortably set back for a long journey, and the driver's position is comfortable enough to soak up the miles when necessary. We took the car on an extended trip across Europe as part of the test, and came away very impressed with how refreshed we felt even after several thousand miles of driving.
A lot of this has to do with the fact that, although modest in size, the engine never really feels stressed. Coupled with the lazy 6 speed, you can just cruise for hours with no harshness or headache inducing noise. A credit to the designers. Push it along and you will definitely notice the engine note become a little more fussed, but for the majority of the time, the car is remarkably smooth to drive in all ways.
Conclusion
The Nissan Pulsar is a surprisingly competent performer and more than impresses with its ride, handling and comfort, especially over long runs. Around town you may find that you're having to run through the six-speed box a little more than expected, but again, once you get used to it, third gear becomes a most useful and effective way to navigate city traffic in general. Interior comfort is top notch, as is the payload space of the hatch area, and we have to say that in general terms we preferred it to the VW Golf in overall 'liveability'.

We’ve had 3 Nissan’s, electric problem again. Something to do with the radar. Common problems with Nissans. Crap Bosch parts. Might’ve been a recall. This we be our last Nissan. They’re basically Renaults now.

Under specs you call both kw and horsepower PS. I don't know if it's the german term for horsepower you went for but if it is it should only be under horsepower

Thank you very much for your review.I was wondering in comparison with F.Focus with the same specs, should we go for N.Pulsar? Really need help as complete armature in cars.Kind regards,Andrei

Go for the Pulsar I tried both. I don't know what was wrong with the Pulsar Jeremy Lister tried. Wrong tyre pressures I suspect. The suspension is soft and the car is extremely quiet comfortable and relaxing to drive. Some write ups say the Pulsar is not very exciting to drive. So what. Who wants excitement.

Does the 1.2 engine climb hills ok?

Yes. It's obviously not as effortless as a bigger engine, but I definitely didn't notice any real problems during the run.

It’s a turbo charged engine with extra horsepower and torque equivalent to a 1.5 engine without turbo and Qashqai which is a much bigger car has exactly the same engine.
@DrEtzor
@DrEtzor 4 жыл бұрын
@@xcslyfoxgg4508 Actually, that 1.2 turbo is equal to older 1.8 liter nissan engine that has no turbo, granted, this 1.2 turbo has more torque and lower fuel consumption even though the 1.8 QG18DE was given the "Greenest Engine of the Year" award in year 2000, that engine was also fit into C13 Pulsar's predecessor (technically.), the N16 Almera/Pulsar. I found it interesting that the 1.2T actually has the same horsepower (85kW) as the 1.8 had. And yes, Qashqai has the same 1.2T engine but the 1.2T is a toy engine when it has to pull the weight of a Qashqai, you really need the 1.6T if you want to buy a Qashqai, or the newer 1.3T which is a Mercedes engine. Though, if you really want the 1.2T you can always put a chip tune on it for around 500€ and it'll have roughly 140 horsepower which will make it a lot better, however, if you got the 1.6T and threw a chip on that, it'd go to 230 horsepower, which, well, is almost double what the 1.2T has stock.

I drive a 2007 Megane 2. I recently test drove the Pulsar as every review said it had a good smooth ride. I couldn't disagree more. If this car is one of the smoothest out there, I'd hate to drive an average one. It's suspension comfort is not a patch on my Megane. Best car I've had for comfort was a Citroen Xantia There are various discussions why as time goes on cars have harder and harder suspension. I don't know the answer and I now feel there are no reasonably priced cars suitable for me ( back problems). As roads get worse, the population ages and cars get more uncomfortable, the only winner is the physiotherapist trying to sort out back problems. I'm appalled at this trend.

@@xxclickingxxone-man-army632 A lot of Nissan CVTs have had problems and they do not last long, just like Mazda automatics, which is why your supposed to buy manual mazdas and nissans, not automatics. If you want an automatic, buy a Toyota, they have made basically the same automatic transmission since the days of Prius was launched so any faults have been fixed long time ago.

@@DrEtzor what about VW automatic? And Hyundai or Ford automatics? Are they good?
@DrEtzor
@DrEtzor 3 жыл бұрын
@@Anil75987 As far as i know, Volkswagen Group's DSG transmissions are something you should be wary of, can't say much about Hyundai or Ford, they should both have decent transmissions as AT though, depends a lot on the model of the car, but i haven't heard much bad about them. Like the basic Ford Fusion or Hyundai Elantra should both be just fine in comparison to the Nissan CVT and Volkswagen DSG transmissions. They might not be best transmissions but at least you won't have to replace the Ford or Hyundai transmission every 25k miles like on the Nissan or be worried about the VW DSG timebomb. Granted, if your looking at a small engined Ford, that engine itself will die, if you wanna research about the Ford stuff, there's plenty of material online about the 1.0 and 1.6 liter Focus engines breaking down and Ford trying to shrug it off instead of paying up, people having to take it to court instead of Ford just fixing it.
